设计说明

由谈论去美国旅行的最佳时间和美国的几个州的天气特点引入新课的学习。对于课文的学习，首先通过听短文和阅读短文判断句子正误，然后阅读短文填写相关信息，接下来通过完成句子练习本单元重点词汇。朗读短文，提升学生的口头表达能力；学习新的语言点，继续学习本模块的新语法，增加学生在词汇和语法上的积累。设置关于旅行的写作训练，提升学生的书面表达能力。

教学目标

通过本单元的教学，让学生达成以下目标：

1. 知识目标

掌握本单元新单词及短语: mile, round, northwest, southeast, from time to time。

2. 能力目标

(1)用正确的语音、语调朗读短文，把握短文的结构和细节信息；

(2)进一步练习运用may和might表示“可能”。

3. 情感目标

了解美国几个州的天气特点和旅游注意事项，培养对地理的兴趣。

重点：短文的朗读与理解；语言点的学习和运用。

难点：运用所学知识进行相关的书面表达。

Step 1　Leading in

T: Boys and girls, who went to the US in the past?

Show some pictures of the States of America and talk about the best time to visit them.

Step 2　Warming up

Talk about what you can see in the pictures. (Activity 1 on page 82)

1. Show the pictures to the class.

2. Ask them to work in groups to talk about what they can see in the pictures.

3. Elicit their descriptions and ask the class to guess which picture it is.

Step 3　Fast reading

Listen and read. Then check (√) the true sentences.

(1) Ask the students to read through the sentences.

(2)Ask the students to listen to the recording and then check the true sentences.

(3) Ask them to read the passage and correct the mistakes.

(4) Elicit answers from the whole class.

Step 4　Careful reading

1. Complete the table. (Activity 3 on page 83)

(1) Ask the students to look at the table and find out what information they will search for.

(2) Have the class read the passage and underline the key information.

(3) Ask them to complete the table on their own and them check answers with their partners.

(4) Elicit answers in full sentences from the class.

Step 6　Language points

1. The best time to visit New England is in September.

九月是去新英格兰游览的最佳时间。

(1) the best time to do sth. 意为“做某事的最佳时间”。

The best time to do sports is in the afternoon.

进行体育运动的最佳时间是在下午。

(2) 动词不定式to visit... 在句中作后置定语，修饰前面的名词time。动词不定式（短语）常位于名词或不定代词之后作定语。

What is the best way to learn English? 学习英语的最佳方式是什么？

2. In Seattle, in the northwest, it is not very cold but it rains a lot, so bring an umbrella. 位于西北部的西雅图，天气不是很冷，但经常下雨，所以要带上一把雨伞。

(1)in the northwest意为“在西北部”，如果表示“在……的西北部”用in the northwest of…

类似的表达还有: in the south of, in the east of等。

Shandong is in the east of China. 山东在中国的东部。

(2) a lot此处意为“很；非常”，可以修饰动词、感叹词、形容词或副词的比较级。

Lingling likes travelling a lot. 玲玲非常喜欢旅游。

This dictionary is a lot more expensive than that one. 这本词典比那本贵很多。

3. Do not forget to bring a warm sweater with you.

不要忘记随身带一件暖和的毛衣。

(1) forget +名词/代词

I will never forget the experiences at the summer camp.

我永远不会忘记在夏令营的经历。

(2) forget to do sth.忘记去做某事（没有做）

Don’t forget to hand in your homework. 不要忘记上交你的家庭作业。

(3) forget doing sth.忘记做过某事

I forgot calling her, so I called her again.

我忘记已给她打过电话，所以我又给她打了一次。

4. In Texas and the southeast, it is usually very hot and sunny compared to other places.和其他地方相比，得克萨斯州和东南部地区通常天气很热，阳光灿烂。

compared to意为“和……相比”，在句中作状语，相当于compared with。

Lucy is much taller compared to other girls of the same age.

露西比其他同龄的女孩要高得多。

compared to / with可以放在句子开头，作独立成分。

Compared to big cities, the village is very quiet.

与大城市相比，这个村庄非常安静。

compare动词，意为“比较”。表示“把……与……相比较”可以用compare…with…或compare…to…；表示“把……比作……”要用compare…to…。

Do your parents often compare you with other children?

Daming compares books to his good friends. 大明把书比作他的好朋友。

5. There are storms from time to time in summer and autumn.

夏季和秋季时常有暴风雨。

from time to time是固定短语，意为“有时；间或”，与at times意思相近。

Step 7　Writing

1. Match the two parts of the sentences. (Activity 5 on page 83)

(1) Ask the students to read the two parts of the sentences on their own.

(2) Ask them to try to match the two parts and then check answers with their partners.

(3)Elicit answers with one student reading the first part aloud and another reading the matching half.

(4) Ask the students to write down the full sentences.

2. Write some advice for visiting your home town and give reasons. Use because, so and but. (Activity 6 on page 83)

(1) Ask the students to work in groups of five or six. Brainstorm what a visitor can see and do in their home town and think of some advice for visiting their home town and reasons. Remind them of taking some notes.

(2) Tell the students to write some advice, using the notes they have taken.

(3) Encourage some students to present passage to the whole class.
