What will you think of when you see the pictures? What are the things in front of the people? And have you taken photos like them? All of these photos were taken by a photographer, Huang Qingjun.

Huang is famous for his photo series(系列) jiadang or Family Stuff. He traveled around China and took photos of people that were standing outside their homes with all their family stuff. Huang started taking photos when he was 13 years old and then worked for the magazine Chinese National Geography. In 2003 he began the jiadang photo project and he spent about 16 years finishing it.

Through the photo series, Huang wanted to show the huge changes in people's lives. His pictures showed people's basic(基本的) needs. In the past, most of them only had a few chairs, tables and beds. But later, we could see the impact of modernization(现代化的影响) because almost every family owned a TV, a DVD and a phone.

Some photos took Huang a couple of days and others several months. Usually it was easier to take the photos in places where people didn't have many things in their houses. He once visited one place where a couple had to move away because of the government's plans to build tall buildings there. In the photo, the couple were sitting on their bed and you can see the Chinese word chai on the wall behind them. It means pulling down buildings. But the couple were happy because they got lots of money for moving and could live a better life.

三、　　W: When I was young, my family was very poor. My mother had to sell flowers at a market. She couldn't leave me at home on my own, so I had to go along with her. As I grew older, I began to give my mom a hand.

When I was 14, my grandma gave me a book for Christmas. It was all about making candles. I loved it so much that I spent all my free time making candles of all shapes and sizes.

四、　　Shadow puppetry is one of the oldest operas in China. Shadow puppetry started more than twenty centuries ago. During the western Han Dynasty, it was popular in the countryside because it was simple and cheap. In a shadow puppetry show actors hold puppets behind a white cloth. They act and sing to show social life and pass on culture. Each pupperty usually has eleven parts such as its legs, arms and head. There are 12 to 24 joints that hold parts together. With the help of about three pieces of wood, the puppet can move easily. It is difficult to make a puppet. A special putting skill is used to make them. Profit makers mostly use soft leather or thick paper to make a puppet. They have to follow twenty­four steps to make a puppet, including washing the leather, cutting, painting and so on. They have to hold the knife still in the right hand and move only one piece of leather with the left hand. Shadow puppetry is one of the oldest traditional performing arts in the world.
