    Characteristics of an excellent scientist
The dictionary defines a scientist as a person having professional knowledge on one or more sciences, especially natural science or physical science.____1____ Let’s look at some characteristics of an excellent scientist.
    Curiosity
An excellent scientist must be very curious about things. Scientists such as Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse discovered things mainly because they wanted to know how things work.____2____
    Patience
Becoming a scientist takes a long time. ____3____ Even if you think you have received some education on science, you still have a lot of scientific research to do. If you’re an instant-gratification type of person, this may not be the best choice for you.
    Ethical (道德的) qualities
In order to truly discover and use knowledge for the greater good, a scientist must have a desire to improve people’s life as well as the environment, since they are linked and they can affect one another in the long run. ____4____ Sticking to an old belief contradicted with evidence is dishonest. However, that belief shouldn’t be changed without powerful evidence.
    Working habits
____5____He/She can work well alone or in groups, depending on what’s needed and also needs to communicate thoughts on paper and verbally. Networking connects him/her with colleagues working on similar projects where he/she may discover something new.
A.To make discoveries, you have to think differently.
B.There are very few jobs that take longer than this one.
C.It also defines a scientist as someone who uses scientific methods.
D.A scientist must report findings honestly regardless of personal interests or public opinion.
E.One of the main places that many scientists work in is the research laboratory.
F.An excellent scientist even takes notes of the smallest observation and keeps it in mind.
G.Without a drive to ask questions or even wonder, a scientist will never get to the first stage of the scientific process.
Have you ever gone to a museum or a show and been completely blown away by a piece? If you haven’t, go out and get cultured. I’m a student at the College of Visual and Performing Arts where we create all kinds of art every day. ____6____ But I don’t think those people truly know the difficulties and struggles in the process of making art.
First of all, we need to be inspired. You may think that’s easy. In fact, anything can serve as a concept of a work of art. ____7____ Sometimes we will need people, volunteers, bodies to do so and finding willing people to work is hard. Other times we have a clear idea of what we want but we don’t know how to make other people fully understand what we’re trying to get at.
____8____ We need a space to be able to be creative and that can be tricky to acquire. Sometimes we need art supplies or certain equipment and costumes and that can cost money. Even if we do acquire what we need, visions change and mistakes happen so we might not end up using the resources.
The process can take weeks, months, and even years to be fully realized. Once completed, we need to share it and find an audience and provide an environment to display our work. ____9____ What if nobody likes what we created? What if our vision isn’t what we thought though completed?
Creating art is an art in itself. It is really not as easy as many people think. ____10____ It’s how we express ourselves and how we communicate with the rest of the world.
    A.Outsiders think our jobs easy.
B.We should be quiet and creative.
C.We might choose other fields as well.
D.Resources are also a huge factor in making art.
E.The hard part comes when we put our ideas into reality.

G.It takes time, patience and space when things don’t go as expected.

If you know your personality, then you will see those qualities in yourself, with the help of which you can get success. But there is one more thing to be noted with this—too much of any one thing in the personality can also be harmful.____12____
How Can a Person’s Personality Lead to Career Growth?
To get success in the field, realizing your personality is very important, because your personality can be harmful too.
I realized this in my life when I started my first job in 2010.____13____Actually, that time was the time in my life when I needed to have a job. It was very interesting for me to work in the showroom of a motorcycle.
____14____Like personality, career trends (趋势) are there. Only when your personality matches the career trends can you get success.
Which Personality Is Best for Your Job?
To get success, it is very important that your personality should be attractive. Developing your personality is a long-term process.____15____Your personality needs continuous practice to become attractive.
Attractive personality is very important for success and for this , along with the external (外部的) image, your healthy mind is also very important.

F.Therefore, after knowing your personality, try to remove the things that can stop your success.
G.You are able to perform the work that suits your personality in the best way.
It goes without saying that everyone has bad days at work. You hit an unexpected problem with a project you’ve been working on for weeks. ____16____You are severely criticized by your boss in the company. Whatever your workplace problem is, one effect it has is to make you feel more alone. There are times when you feel as though your colleagues are upset and you can only rely on yourself. ____17____
When you’re feeling upset about a problem at work, take a minute to think of someone in your life that you’re grateful to and write a sentence or two on a notepad about what you appreciate. ____18____ Why does it have such power? Gratitude is often a positive emotion you   feel when someone else has gone out of their way to do something helpful for you that they didn’t have to do. That person has done something selfless in order to make your life little---or perhaps a lot---better.
____19____ It might be a relative who took care of you when you were little, a teacher who   helped you out in a tough situation or a colleague who put you up for a great opportunity.

These are three obvious but related beliefs that you need to both know for yourself and be able to communicate to others. ___21____
Passion is what drives you. Your passion is what brings a smile to your face, what lights your creative engine and what makes you approach a problem with passion. Your passion could be for a specific field, profession, industry, customer, type of problem, or some combination. ____22____ The success itself is enough.
____23____ It consists mainly of your problem-solving abilities and all the qualities that come with them, such as your skills, knowledge and experience. When you know your value, you can state this to develop cooperation and to encourage employers to hire you.
Goals are what you want to do. ____24____ They may be very specific, like “I want to work in City X on consumer products in the beauty industry.” Or they could be more general, such as “I want to use my passion for science communications to advance STEM.”
Knowing your passion can help you better define (界定) your value and clarify your goals. And understanding your goals can help you go better to your passion and pronounce your value. ____25____

Interests and hobbies: If you have any interests that are related to your job or the role you are applying for, then it's definitely worth including them to show your skills.___28___
Sell yourself with a CV profile.
It's important that you capture the attention of employers within the first few seconds of them opening your CV.___29___

    3.
承接小标题“Patience (耐心)”和上文“Becoming a scientist takes a long time.

6.上文“I’m a student at the College of Visual and Performing Arts where we create all kinds of art every day.(我是一名视觉与表演艺术学院的学生,每天都在创作各种各样的艺术作品)”,下文“But I don’t think those people truly know the difficulties and struggles in the process of making art.(但是我认为那些人并不是真正了解艺术创作过程中的艰辛。)” A项“Outsiders think our jobs easy.(外人认为我们的工作很容易。)”恰好与之对应,下文的those people指代A项中的Outsiders, 下文的difficult也与A项中的easy对应。故选A项。
7.上文“First of all, we need to be inspired. You may think that’s easy. In fact, anything can serve as a concept of a work of art.(首先,我们需要灵感。 而下文“Sometimes we will need people, volunteers, bodies to do so and finding willing people to work is hard.(有时我们需要人、志愿者、人模来做这些,而找到愿意做这些工作的人很难。)” 因此中间需要有过度,E项“The hard part comes when we put our ideas into reality.(我们要把想法变为实际时,困难就来了。)”
8.本题设空处位于段首,根据下文“We need a space to be able to be creative and that can be tricky to acquire. Sometimes we need art supplies or certain equipment and costumes and that can cost money. Even if we do acquire what we need, visions change and mistakes happen so we might not end up using the resources.(我们需要一个能够发挥创造力的空间,而这很难获得。 结合选项可知,D项“Resources are also a huge factor in making art.(资源也是艺术创作的一个重要因素。)”
9.上文“The process can take weeks, months, and even years to be fully realized. Once completed, we need to share it and find an audience and provide an environment to display our work.(这个过程可能需要几周、几个月、甚至几年的时间才能完全实现。 提到了作品完成后会做的事情;下文“What if nobody likes what we created? What if our vision isn’t what we thought though completed?(如果没有人喜欢我们创造的东西怎么办? 是对完成作品后可能出现问题的假设,且都是一些消极的想法,F项“And the negative thoughts love to overpower our minds.(我们的大脑里总是充斥着各种消极的想法。)”
10.上文“Creating art is an art in itself. It is really not as easy as many people think.(艺术创作本身就是一种艺术。 总结性地提到了艺术创作并不是那么容易的;下文“It’s how we express ourselves and how we communicate with the rest of the world.(它是我们表达自我的方式,也是我们与世界交流的方式。)” G项“It takes time, patience and space when things don’t go as expected.(当事情不像预期那样发展时,需要时间、耐心和空间。)”

    26.
根据上文“Writing your CV(简历)can be tough if you have no work experience.(如果你没有工作经验,写简历可能很难。)” D项“But how to create an impressive CV without work experience?(但是怎样才能在没有工作经验的基础上制作出令人印象深刻的简历呢?)”
F项中的“make a list of the requirements”与空格后的“requirements”相呼应。故选F。
    28.
根据上文“Interests and hobbies: If you have any interests that are related to your job or the role you are applying for, then it's definitely worth including them to show your skills.(兴趣和爱好:如果你有任何与你的工作或你申请的职位相关的兴趣,那幺绝对值得把它们包括进来以展示你的技能。)” 此处应用一个具体的例子来对上文的叙述做进一步阐释,B项“For example, an IT applicant runs a personal website in his or her spare time.(例如,IT申请人在业余时间运行个人网站。)”
    29.
根据上文“It's important that you capture the attention of employers within the first few seconds of them opening your CV.(在雇主打开简历的头几秒钟内吸引他们的注意力是很重要的。)” G项“Failing to do so can result in your CV being skipped over very quickly.(不这样做会导致你的简历很快被跳过。)”
    30.
根据下文“If you really want to strengthen your CV, then think about gaining some voluntary experience to boost it. Although the work will be unpaid, the experience you gain will be invaluable to your career prospects.(如果你真的想加强你的简历,那就考虑获得一些志愿工作的经验来提高它。 C项“Take up some voluntary work when necessary.(必要时参加一些志愿工作。)”

    31.
上文“Dogs protect our homes(狗保护我们的家园。)”和下文“They team up with rescue workers in search-and-rescue operations.(他们与救援人员一起展开搜救行动。)” A选项“They help people with disabilities.(它们帮助残疾人。)”
    32.
根据前文的“And now, dogs can add another job to their resumes—finding endangered animals! Experts in Australia are training dogs to use their sense of smell. D选项“The aim of the job is to find some endangered creatures.(这项工作的目的是寻找一些濒临灭绝的生物。)”
    33.
根据下文“Just to get to the place, or site, where the frogs live. 以及“The dogs and their trainers must walk far distances through forests. It is difficult but important work.(狗和它们的训练员必须在森林里走很远的路。 C选项“The work is difficult mainly because of the search area.
    34.
根据前文“Experts there claim that since 1980 the deadly enemy has killed off 98 percent of the Baw Baw frogs.(那里的专家称,自1980年以来,这种致命的敌人已经杀死了98%的汪汪蛙。)”以及空后的的“So, a special organization called Zoos Victoria is trying to save the frog. G选项“In fact, scientists say these creatures could disappear in the next five to ten years.
    35.
根据前文“He says that detecting the frogs in the wild can be very difficult because they mainly live underground. B选项“The females are even more difficult to find.(雌蛙就更难找到了。)”

    37.
上文“People with slash careers often have a primary job that provides for most of their needs. The primary job usually comes before the slash.(从事斜杠职业的人通常有一份能满足他们大部分需求的主要工作。
    39.
根据下文“With a slash career, losing one’s job does not mean losing one’s entire income. Or a secondary job may be so successful that it can turn into one’s primary job.(对于斜杠职业来说,失去一份工作并不意味着失去全部收入。
    40.
根据下文“One might give up necessary things like relaxation, exercise or time with one’s family. People with slash careers need to think carefully about how they use their time.(一个人可能会放弃一些必要的事情,比如放松、锻炼或与家人在一起的时间。
