The best way to see the world’s architectural wonders is to visit them in person, so grab your passport and book a trip to one of these amazing destinations if you have a longing for a spot of building-based bliss(极乐) this year.
Barcelona
Every year millions of people flood to this vibrant(充满活力的) Spanish city to see some of the amazingly unique works of the famous architect Antoni Gaudi. The Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Familia is the most popular of these and is still being built, in spite of the fact that work began all the way back in 1882.
Monaco
While ultramodern architecture tends to grab all of the headlines, if you are looking for a more traditional type of design that speaks to the wealth of bygone(过去的) eras, Monaco is definitely worth adding to your list. Monte Carlo is undoubtedly the best place to visit if you want to be bathed in the beauty of the coastline it shares with the French Riviera while also seeing some of the most gorgeous hotels that Europe has to offer.
Athens
A lot of ancient architecture stands in the Greek capital, with buildings that have stood for thousands of years still managing to tower over the tourists that visit them. From the impressive, awe-inspiring relics of the Parthenon to temples to various gods including Zeus and Hephaestus, Athens is the place to visit if you are eager to see architecture that is filled with history.
Singapore
In contrast to Monte Carlo, the architecture of Singapore is cutting edge and futuristic, to the point that visitors may feel like they have stepped onto the setting of a science fiction film rather than a living, breathing city. The Helix Bridge is a must-see architectural attraction of Singapore, with its 280-metre-span stretching in an arcing curve and consisting of intertwined (缠绕的) metal strands(金属链) that bring the structure of DNA into mind.
21. What is unique about the Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Familia?
A. It is modern rather than traditional.
B. It was built in honor of Antoni Gaudi.
C. It is located right in the Greek capital.
D. It has taken more than 100 years to build it.
22. Where can you enjoy the beauty of the coastline near the French Riviera?
A. Monte Carlo. B. Athens. C. Barcelona. D. Singapore.

I left university with a good degree in English Literature, but no sense of what I wanted to do. Over the next six years, I was treading water(停滞不前), just trying to earn an income. I tried journalism, but I didn't think I was any good, then finance, which I hated. Finally, I got a job as a rights assistant at a famous publisher. I loved working with books, although the job that I did was dull.
I had enough savings to take a year off work, and I decided to try to satisfy a deep-down wish to write a novel. Attending a Novel Writing MA course gave me the structure I needed to write my first 55,000 words.
It takes confidence to make a new start—there’s a dark period in-between where you’re neither one thing nor the other. You’re out for dinner and people ask what you do, and you’re too ashamed to say, “Well, I’m writing a novel, but I’m not quite sure if I’m going to get there.” My confidence dived. Believing my novel could not be published, I put it aside.
Then I met an agent(代理商) who said I should send my novel out to agents. So, I did and, to my surprise, got some wonderful feedback. I felt a little hope that I might actually become a published writer and, after signing with an agent, I finished the second half of the novel.
The next problem was finding a publisher. After two-and-a-half years of no income, just waiting and wondering, a publisher offered me a book deal—that publisher turned out to be the one I once worked for.
It feels like an unbelievable stroke of luck—of fate, really. When you set out to do something different, there’s no end in sight, so to find myself in a position where I now have my own name on a contract(合同) of the publisher—to be a published writer—is unbelievably rewarding.
24. Why did the author decide to write a novel?
A. Because she hated her previous jobs.
B. Because her parents and friends had encouraged her to do so.
C. Because she wanted to pursue her own dream of writing a novel.
D. Because she graduated from university with a good degree in English Literature.
25. What does the underlined sentence in paragraph 3 mean?
A. She became less stubborn.
B. She became more stubborn.
C. She suddenly lost confidence.
D. She gradually gained confidence.
26. Who agreed to publish the author’s first novel?
A. An agent who she signed with.
B. A rights assistant she once worked with.
C. An agent who advised her to send her novel out to agents.
D. A publisher who she once worked for as a rights assistant.
27. Which of the following words can best describe the author’s experience as a writer?
A. Tough but rewarding. B. Interesting and smooth.
C. Difficult but thrilling. D. Complicated and fruitless.
C
This new packaging material looks like conventional plastic, but it’s actually made from fish waste and algae(海藻)—unlike plastic, if it escapes into the ocean, a fish could eat it safely. The material, called MarinaTex, is the winner of this year’s James Dyson Award.
“It began with my desire to work with waste,” says Lucy Hughes, a recent graduate from University of Sussex, who once visited a fish processing factory to see the massive quantity of waste generated by the industry and found new ways to use it. She focused on fish skins and scales(鳞片). “When I had it in my hands, I realized this has got potential,” she says. “It s super strong and flexible.” Hughes spent months experimenting with fish waste in her kitchen, running more than 100 experiments to find a binder(粘合剂) and a process that could hold together the proteins in the fish skins and scales.“I had a lot of failed attempts. A lot of things either were too easily broken or too soft or easily went bad,” she says. She finally found a type of algae that can be locally got.
The material can be used to replace oil-based plastic in packaging such as bags or the half-transparent windows used to show products in boxes. As her research continues, Hughes says that she’ll be studying how MarinaTex works and how long it could be used to store food.
Unlike some “composable” plastics, which need to be processed in an industrial composting(堆肥) facility to break down, the new material can break down in four to six weeks in a backyard compost bin. “All the ingredients are food-grade safe,” Hughes says. “So, this breaks down much like a piece of food would break down.
28. Why did MarinaTex win this year s James Dyson Award?
A. It doesn’t go into the ocean.
B. It is environmentally-friendly.
C. It doesn’t produce any waste.
D. It doesn’t look like conventional plastic.
29. What is the main idea conveyed in paragraph 2?
A. Where Hughes got inspiration for the binder.
B. How Hughes developed MarinaTex.
C. What advantages MarinaTex has.
D. Where the binder can be used.
30. What is yet to be found out?
A. How long it takes for MarinaTex to break down.
B. How long MarinaTex can be used to store food.
C. Whether MarinaTex can replace oil-based plastic.
D. Whether MarinaTex is better than half-transparent windows.
31. Where is the text most likely to appear?
A. In a science fiction. B. In a government report.
C. In a science magazine. D. In a government announcement.

You are given many opportunities in life to choose to be a victim or creator. When you choose to be a victim, the world is a cold and difficult place. “They” did things to you which caused all of your pain and suffering. “They” are wrong and bad, and life is terrible as long as “they” are around. Or you may blame yourself for all your problems, thus internalizing(内化) your victimization(受害). The truth is, your life is likely to stay that way as long as you feel a need to blame yourself or others.
Those who choose to be creators look at life quite differently. They know there are individuals who might like to control their lives, but they don’t let this get in the way. They know they have their weaknesses, yet they don’t blame themselves when they fail. Whatever happens, they have choice in the matter. They believe their dance with each sacred(神圣的) moment of life is a gift and that storms are a natural part of life which can bring the rain needed for emotional and spiritual growth.
Victims and creators live in the same physical world and deal with many of the same physical realities, yet their experience of life is worlds apart. Victims relish(沉溺) in anger, guilt, and other emotions that cause others—and even themselves—to feel like victims, too. Creators consciously choose love, inspiration, and other qualities which inspire not only themselves, but all around them. Both victims and creators always have choice to determine the direction of their lives.
In reality, all of us play the victim or the creator at various points in our lives. One person, on losing a job or a special relationship, may feel as if it is the end of the world and sink into terrible suffering for months, years, or even a lifetime. Another with the same experience may choose to first experience the grief, then accept the loss and soon move on to be a powerful creative force in his life.
In every moment and every circumstance, you can choose to have a fuller, richer life by setting a clear intention to transform the victim within, and by inviting into your life the powerful creator that you are.
32. In what way is a creator different from a victim?
A. A creator is given more challenges.
B. Failure seldom comes to a creator.
C. Storms are beneficial in a creator’s eyes.
D. A victim hardly blames others for their own faults.
33. When people choose to think like a creator, what will happen?
A. They seldom make careless mistakes.
B. The world seems a cold and difficult place.
C. Life is blessed with fewer opportunities than expected.
D. They don’t care what happens to them but think positively.
34. Which of the following can be described as a creator’s act?
A. Tim failed his exam and thought he would never pass it.
B. Sam lost his job and abandoned himself to drinking for months.
C. J. K. Rowling was rejected by a publisher and yet went on writing.
D. Jessica broke up with her husband and chose to give up her own life.
35. Which of the following can be the best title for this text?
A. Benefits Of Being A Creator B. Creators: Act Now Or Never
C. Creator Or Victim: Up To You D. Ways To Transform A Victim Into A Creator

Jack was awakened by a gunshot. He looked out toward the frozen lake. Near the trees he saw a shining piece of metal. When it moved, Jack saw that it was a long gun. A minute later, a man wearing hunting clothes came out of the woods.
Suddenly a bird flew upward. The man quickly raised the gun and shot at it. Jack watched the bird, praying it had not been hurt. It flew near the ground and went into some tall bushes. The hunter didn’t move for a moment. Then he began to look for the bird.
“No hunting!” Jack came out in his nightclothes and shouted. “No hunting on my land!” The man called back, “Where can I hunt?” Jack said, “Go South!” And then he pointed in the direction behind the man. The hunter started to walk away.
After a while, Jack had just finished putting on his clothes when he heard another gunshot. He walked toward the lake. Fighting was the last thing he wanted, but the man must go. Suddenly he heard a bird s wings beating the dry grass. Jack moved quickly towards the sound. He saw a colored head... the head of a beautiful bird. The bird flapped its wings, one of which was broken completely.
Jack decided to take the bird home and treat its broken wing so that it could fly again. He was almost going through the woods when he heard the hunter behind him. “You have just found that bird?” the hunter asked, stepping closer, and said, “Give me that bird!”
“Leave here and don’t follow me,” Jack told him. The man’s face got red. “Mister,” he said, “I have been hunting here all my life. I grew up here.” Jack looked into the hunter’s gray eyes and raised his voice, “I do not know who you are and I do not care. I own this place and I am telling you to leave!” “Now look, Mister,” the hunter insisted, “be reasonable.” He raised his gun. A cold wind blew across Jack’s face. (Text 7)
M: Have you seen Kate recently, Vicky?

M: Has she seen a doctor?
W: Yes, she has. The doctor told her to take it easy for a while, but she hasn’t been taking the advice. She’s as busy as usual.

As far as I am concerned, winning is not that important in a sports competition. Rather, it is participation itself that matters. As long as you take part in a sports competition, whether you win or lose, it helps free you from the heavy pressure caused by study and daily work.
For instance, I once signed up for a cross-country race. I set a workout plan, stuck to it and exercised regularly for a whole month. Although I didn’t win the race, I felt a strong sense of pride because I had challenged myself and managed to keep running instead of giving up halfway.

In my opinion, to win in a sports competition is more important. Otherwise, a sports match is meaningless.
Firstly, the purpose of competitive sports is to show who has the ability to win the competition. If everyone is trying to win, the competition will be more exciting. Meanwhile, through a competition, those who have a talent for a sport event can be discovered. They can attend a higher level of competitions.
Secondly, if we wish to win, we will train hard and training can build up our body and enhance our willpower.
Thirdly, if we win, we may get a prize or an award, which is a great honor for us. For example, at the school sports meet held last year, I won the second place in the high jump competition and was wild with joy when receiving the silver medal from our headmaster.
第二节
One possible version:
Jack stood there and became calm with the bird in his arms. The bird struggled weakly and made a wild, strange sound. The sound made Jack’s heart ache. It seemed as if he could sense the bird’s fear and helplessness. Holding it tightly in his arms, Jack knew that he just couldn’t give up this tiny life. He raised his eyes and looked directly into the hunter s. The steady gaze sent a strong message to the hunter that by no means would he give in. And then to Jack’s great relief, the hunter began to walk away slowly.
The hunter looked back from time to time and Jack signaled to him to leave quickly. Jack watched until the hunter was gone and then he went to the house. He carefully laid the bird on the soft pillow, applied some medicine to the wound and bandaged its broken wing. With his careful nursing, the bird gradually recovered. One day Jack returned to find it eagerly flapping its wings, and he knew it was time to set it free.
