Johnny would be six years old in two days. My mom was going to bake a special chocolate cake with white icing. As I watched her, I wondered what I can do to make my brother's birthday special. I knew my parents had already bought a present for me to give to Johnny, but I wanted to buy him something chosen by myself and with the money I had saved. After giving it some thought, I wanted to buy him the paint-by-number kit(数字涂色小套装) I had seen at the store around the corner. I decided to empty my coin jar and see how much money I had saved. However, I was disappointed to find there was much less than I had imagined. "Oh, no, I only have about three dollars," I muttered to myself. "The kit cost more than I have saved." Suddenly a "great" idea occurred to me. I slid into my parents' bedroom where my dad kept loose change on top of the dresser. I stood on my tiptoes and saw some dimes, nickels, and a few quarters. I carefully counted out what I needed to make up the difference. I was sure Dad wouldn't mind just this once, I thought. However, I was soon overcome by guilt. Even though there was no one else in the bedroom, I felt like I was being watched. Mom was always telling us about the importance of honesty. Maybe my plan wasn't a great idea, I thought. I jingled the change in my pocket while wondering what to do. I grabbed my jacket from the closet and headed toward the door. "Where are you going, honey?" Mom asked. "Oh, just up to the corner store," I replied. "Well, don't stay out too long, Daddy will be home soon." "Okay, Mom," I ran out of our house. Once I got to the store, I took the paint-by-number kit from the shelf. "Can I help you, young lady?" the salesclerk asked. "No. I'm just looking, thank you," I said. "That's a really nice paint kit. We have sold a lot of them and, as you can see, that's the last one," she said.注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;2. 请按如下格式作答。I nodded my head in agreement, with my mind racing.____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________I would just have to wait until I saved the extra money I needed.____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________6. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。Whether we notice it or not, our child is a little reflection of ourselves. They grow up looking more and more like us. They even have similar personalities and hobbies. And in some cases, the standard of choosing a good friend. One day, my 10-year-old Jane said, "Mom, I made a new friend at school today. Can she come over tomorrow? "Her words made me extremely happy because Jane was a shy girl and I wanted her to make some friends to bring her out of her shell."Sure, honey, that sounds great." I said, thinking back to my own childhood best friend, Susan. We lived across the street from each other in Washington Heights, New York. We met at the age of 10, too. Like my daughter. I was shy and had trouble making friends. But Susan drew me out. She was one of the friendliest people in school, with shiny black hair and a mile-wide smile. Thanks to Susan. I was happy every day.In senior high school, Susan went on a trip to Florida. This was the first time we had to be away from each other for a few days. "I'11 be back soon and I will write to you as soon as I arrive." she told me. But I didn't get her phone call nor receive any mail from her. Soon, my family moved to New Jersey, making my hope of seeing Susan impossible.Whenever I thought of he, tears came into my eyes. The next day Jane brought her new friend home. "Hi, Mrs. Smith." the little girl said. Her hair was so shiny and black and she gave me a big smile. "My name is Jo. My mom will pick me up 2 hours later."注意:续写词数应为150左右。 I was puzzled because my daughter's new friend looked so familiar. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Two hours passed really quickly, and there was a knock on the door.____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________7. 阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。 A new study has been published that puts water quality and the skin of babies under the microscope. Dr. Carsten Flohr and his team at King's College London presented the results of their population-based study in The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. Researchers involved about 1,300 three-month-old babies from across the UK in this study. They looked specifically at the level of calcium carbonate (碳酸钙) in the water, which is a measure of water hardness. The level of chlorine (氯) in the family's water supply was also taken into consideration, as was the use of bathing products, and how regularly the babies were bathed. The babies were then examined for the presence of childhood eczema (湿疹). The natural barrier of their skin was also examined; babies were screened for the FLG gene which is associated with the skin barrier. What they found was striking. The study found that hard water is linked to an 87 percent increased risk of eczema for babies of three months of age. "Our study builds on growing evidence of a link between exposure to hard water and the risk of developing eczema in childhood. It's not yet clear whether calcium carbonate has a direct bad effect on the skin barrier, or whether other environmental factors directly related to water hardness, such as the water's pH, may be responsible," Dr. Carsten Flohr said. And the study, thankfully, doesn't end there. Dr. Flohr will be examining these results further, and the question they will be seeking to answer is whether a device to lower water hardness in households will have any effect on the skin of babies. If such a device is introduced into a household when a baby is born, will the risk of eczema developing reduce? For those with babies or children suffering, this could be the news you have hoped for.____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________8. 阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。 The journey to the moon is the first step toward future exploration in space. The distance between the moon and the earth is very short indeed when compared with the distances between the earth and the other planets. Mars, one of the nearest planets to the earth, is millions of miles away. Travelling to the planets will be man's next aim. Such trips will be more challenging than the trip to the moon and certainly more adventurous. Two American spaceships, Viking 1 and Viking 2 landed on Mars trying to discover whether there is any life on the planet. Besides taking photographs and collecting other science data on the Martian surface, the two landers conducted biology experiments designed to look for possible signs of life. These experiments discovered unexpected chemical activity in the Martian soil, but provided no clear evidence for the presence of living microorganisms (微生物) in soil near the landing sites. So far the signs of life on Mars have neither been confirmed nor ruled out(把……排除在外). People believe that it is almost certain that there is no life on Venus (金星). Similar in size and structure to the earth, Venus is called the earth's twin. However, there are great differences between the two worlds. The surface of Venus is so hot, the atmosphere of Venus is extremely dense and the pressure is nearly 90 times greater than that of the earth, similar to the pressure you'd encounter about a kilometer below the ocean on the earth. People believe man may find planets which have the same conditions as those on the earth, but man should realize that the earth will be the only home for a long time and love and care about it.____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
答案以及解析1.答案: To help us learn more about the oceans and improve our awareness of protecting the oceans, a large exhibition of pictures was held in our school last Friday. The exhibition was held from 14:00 to 16:00 in the school hall. Pictures of the oceans were shown at the exhibition whose topics were mainly about the present conditions of the world oceans and the pollution they have been suffering in recent years. Looking at these pictures, all people realized the importance of ocean protection and they all said they would do whatever they can to protect the oceans and to make the oceans cleaner. It was evident that the exhibition went on smoothly and successfully. It was highly spoken of because not only did it enrich our school life but also gave us insights into the oceans.2.答案: Dear Peter, Knowing you are interested in the Innovative Lantern Show held last week, I'm writing to give you a brief introduction. Hundreds of lighted lanterns, all of which were students' self-made works, were hanging between the trees on our campus, getting viewers into a fantastic world. Additionally, the variously shaped lanterns were all made of recycled waste such as plastic bottles or cardboard, serving as a reminder for us to protect the environment. The impressive show amazed everyone present. It inspired us to add innovation to our traditional lantern culture, promote our creativity and boost our hands-on skills. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me. Looking forward to your reply.Yours,Li Hua3.答案:According to the comparison chart of our middle school and high school surfing the Internet, we can find that students spend less time playing games and chatting, more time studying online. The reason for such a change, I think, is that students are under more pressure in high school and have more autonomy in learning than those in junior high school. The time of chatting online does not change much, indicating that the internet has strengthened people's connections, and chatting online is deeply loved by students4.答案:As can be seen from the cartoons, different students may have different ways on how to spend their time. A boy student is addicted to computer games, wasting his time and money; while a girl student buries herself in a large pile of books, working hard to get prepared for the future.Needless to say, we all have the right to choose our own way of life. However, as students, we should define and realize our goals. Time in school is one of the most important periods in our life when we can further prepare ourselves academically for a successful future. Therefore, we should make the most of it when we have this opportunity. Success requires both setting goals and working hard. Setting goals for our time in school will ensure our chances of success in the future. And we should challenge ourselves to achieve the goals.5.答案: I nodded my head in agreement, with my mind racing. But finally, I decided to place the paint-by-number kit back on the shelf and headed home. Luckily, when I got home, Mom was busy talking on the phone and Dad wasn't back home yet, so I was able to slip past the kitchen without being noticed. I went to my parents' room to return the coins I had taken. I arranged them into a neat stack—just like they were before—and sighed with relief, knowing I had done the right thing. I would just have to wait until I saved the extra money I needed. The salesclerk had even agreed that she would hold the kit behind the counter for me until I had enough money to pay for it. I figured I could earn it by doing odd jobs around the house. Then I wasn't able to buy the paint kit until two weeks later, but it seemed more special when I was finally able to lay my money on the counter. I smiled as I walked home, knowing the paint kit would be the perfect present for Johnny.6.答案:I was puzzled because my daughter's new friend looked so familiar. But I was sure that I had never met Jo before. She told me that her family just moved from Los Angeles, which puzzled me even more because I had never been to Los Angeles and we had no relatives living in Los Angeles, either. I convinced myself that it was only my imagination. The two girls got on very well and they giggled from time to time. I watched them play and felt so happy for my daughter from the bottom of my heart. Two hours passed really quickly, and there was a knock on the door. It was Jo's mom coming to pick her up later that afternoon. On seeing her face, I was shocked. "Judy!" she cried. "It's me, Susan!" We embraced each other. It turned out that her father's company sent his father to Los Angeles before they settled in Florida. She tried calling me later but we had moved. The two little girls were happy to see their mothers became good friends at once before we told them our story, with happy tears rolling down our cheeks.7.答案: A new study was carried out whose focus was on the link between water quality and the skin of babies. Researchers examined about 1,300 babies for the presence of eczema and the barrier of their skin after measuring the water hardness in the households. The result was that hard water increased the risk of eczema for babies by 87 percent. Further studies will be made to find whether reducing water hardness by a device will have any influence on babies' skin.8.答案: In addition to the visit to the moon, man will travel to explore other planets, which will be more challenging and adventurous. Mars has already been explored, but it's uncertain whether there is life on the planet. Venus is so hot with the extremely dense atmosphere and great pressure that it's almost certain that there is no life on it. It is believed that man may find planets whose conditions are the same as ours on the earth.
