Every school has its own set of rules to keep students disciplined (遵守纪律的). The rules change from one school to another. Some schools are much stricter than others. There are also some rules that look strange or funny to us. Here are some funny school rules.
In Japan, most schools demand that students wear uniforms, such as sports suits or skirts. But many Japanese schools even regulate (规定) the colour of underwear! They also demand that girls’ white socks be folded in a certain way and boys’ heads be shaved (剃掉). And Japanese schools also tell students that they may not date (约会), go to movies, leave home after sunset or play video games without permission from the school.
In America, for safety at some schools, students must have a pair of indoor shoes to change into at school every day. This makes sure students won’t fall over on the wet floors and keeps the schools clean. Gum chewing is not allowed in many US school buildings, as it is difficult to clean up.
In Britain, strange hairstyles are not allowed in some schools. But they might allow students to wear certain hairstyles during the World Cup years. Two students had a special design shaved into their hair during 2014 World Cup. But they were not accepted by their school after that because the school said the rules had changed since then.

Social Media… the Highs and Lows
Twenty years ago, the idea of sharing our lives so openly with the world was unheard of. However, for young people today it is considered completely normal to share pictures of their lives and interact online every day. Fans of social media point out that the world has never been so connected as it has allowed people to make friends, learn about the world and celebrate life.
However, many people have concerns about the effects of this new way of living, particularly around the amount and type of information that is shared so openly.
Now researchers have found that too much time on social media may indeed have some negative( 消极的 ) effects. They measured people’s attitudes and feelings before and after browsing social media sites. They found that the more time people spent on social media, the more unhappy they became.
There are a number of reasons for this. When browsing social media, people often see photographs and stories showing beautiful holidays, fun parties and fashionable clothes. People seldom post negative stories or bad pictures, so it can be misleading. For those looking at these pictures and comparing them to their own lives, they can end up feeling sad and depressed. They might think their lives are worse in comparison. Even for those people who post positive(积极的) stories and pictures, they too can feel stressed and worried.
The number of “likes” and comments on their posts can make them worried about their popularity. Of course, there is also the problem of “cyber bullying”(网络暴力 ) where people become victims of bullying online when others make negative or cruel comments(评论) about them.
The reality is that social media is a part of modern life and it is not going to go away. This research shows us that it is important to deal with the relationship between our online and offline lives properly. We don’t have to disconnect from the Internet to live a happy life, but we should realise that the pictures we see and stories we read are only part of a bigger picture. If we can do that, we can protect ourselves and enjoy our lives.

A. different people make different comments
B. there are many negative stories and bad pictures
C. they compare positive pictures to their own lives
D. the number of “likes” is larger than they expected
35. What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A. To ask us to protect ourselves from “cyber bullying”.
B. To advise us to keep away from the Internet to live a happy life.
C. To remind us of posting positive stories and good pictures online.
D. To tell us to keep a balance between our online and offline lives.

You may think that only children go to school but there are special schools for guide dogs! At school, of course, guide dogs do not learn mathematics and science like you. They learn how to help blind people. The dogs live at the school for six months and they learn about twenty words—words like “sit” and “no”. These dogs wear a special coat with a big handle on it for the blind person to hold.
Dogs can also go to school to learn how to help people who cannot hear. If a person cannot hear, we say he or she is deaf.
Dogs who help deaf people must learn many different sounds. Then they must be able to show the deaf person what is making the sound. When they hear a visitor at the door, the dog learns to walk to the deaf person and then walk to the door. And if a telephone rings, they walk to the deaf man or woman and then walk to the telephone.
These dogs can also help deaf mothers. If a baby is crying in another room, the dog walks to the mother and then to the baby. These dogs wear a yellow coat to show that they are special dogs that are helping a deaf person.
There have been many times when these dogs have saved a life. You may see in a newspaper that a dog heard a fire alarm and lay down near the deaf person’s feet. That is the sign for danger. The person knows that something is wrong and can go away from the fire.
Special dogs can also help people who are disabled in various ways. For example, dogs can pull off their gloves or socks! Think how difficult your life would be if you were blind, deaf or disabled! But if you had a special dog like this to help you, your life would be much easier.
