(2022·北京东城·九年级期末)When you’re having a hard time with something, it’s natural to turn to others for help. Getting help sounds simple, but it’s not always easy to do. Sometimes certain beliefs or ways of thinking can make it hard to ask for help. Here are some kinds of attitudes that can stand in the way and ideas on how to get past them.
Some people believe that needing help is a sign of weakness. Actually, it’s a sign of strength, not weakness. You know what you need and you shouldn’t be afraid to reach out for it. Once a boy told me he wanted to ask his coach how to improve his basketball skills, but he was afraid that his coach might think he shouldn’t be on the team. In fact, when he asked his coach for help, his coach thought he was practicing hard.
Some other people think they don’t deserve(应该得到) help or support. Everyone needs help now and then. Accepting help can strengthen friendships and relationships. Everyone feels good when they can support a friend. For example, if you want to find out how Katy solves problems with her parents, you should ask Katy if she has time to talk and tell her how important her viewpoint is, instead of worrying that Katy is too busy to help you. When you ask for help, choose someone who listens and cares, not someone who judges or criticizes you. If you get refused, it's not because of you, but the other person. So tell yourself: If Katy says no, she might not be ready to talk about her own experiences.
Another wrong attitude is waiting for someone else to make the first move. It’s not always easy for other people to see when you need help. Maybe you’re putting on a cheerful face to hide the problem. Don’t wait for someone to read your mind. You have to ask.
Because it can be hard to reach out for help, don't hesitate(犹豫) to offer support to another person if you think he or she needs it. Giving and receiving help are great life skills to learn. They help us improve our abilities to understand other people.
1.In Paragraph 2, the boy was afraid to ask his coach for help because ________.
    A.his coach criticized him before
B.his coach was too busy to help him
C.he wasn’t practicing as hard as other players
D.he thought it would show he was a weak player
2.What should you do if you need help?
A.Be supportive to other people first.
B.Be active to find a caring person to talk to.
C.Try to make your friends notice what you need.
D.Put on a happy face to avoid worrying other people.
3.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
A.Asking for Help: Everyone’s Natural Ability
B.Asking for Help: Getting Past Improper Attitudes
C.Giving and Receiving Help: Great Skills to Learn
D.Giving and Receiving Help: Strengthening Relationships
(2022·北京东城·九年级期末)If you’re working to become better or hoping to make a change, you’ll probably hear your family and friends say “go big or go home”. But sometimes big goals can shoot you in the foot. So, is it good to set high expectations?
Having high expectations could be beneficial. It can motivate (激励) you and increase your productivity. When you have high expectations for something, you’ll probably behave in ways which can help make your expectations come true. For example, if you believe that you’re able to score an A in a test, you will probably spend a lot of time working on it. And when you have to complete a written task before the deadline, having expectations on yourself can motivate you to keep on going. Another benefit of setting high expectations is that as you start meeting your expectations, you’ll be even more motivated to set higher goals for yourself. In addition, having high expectations on yourself doesn’t only benefit you. You’re likely to encourage others to be more productive! While there’s plenty of good that comes from setting high expectations, going overboard and being unrealistic in expectations can be detrimental.
Having high expectations sometimes can cause psychological (心理的) problems, such as worry and unhappiness. The findings of a study showed that a group of students who were expected to do perfectly by their parents experienced serious stress and anxiety (焦虑). Great expectations can also lead to great disappointment. This is especially true when you set expectations on other people whose actions you cannot control. For example, if you’re feeling alone and you call up your friends, you surely expect them to make you feel better. When this fails to happen, you will feel disappointed and displeased with your friends. To avoid this situation, you should accept your friends for who they are and set your expectations around reality.
It is hard to manage expectations, but the main goal is to find the perfect balance in setting a more realistic and achievable expectation. Learn to let go of things, especially when they don’t turn out the way you hoped. Most importantly, don’t be afraid to celebrate your victories no matter how small they are.
4.If you have a high expectation on yourself, you will probably _________.
A.discourage others B.work hard to realize it
C.be more confident than before D.have high expectations on others
5.The word “detrimental” in Paragraph 2 probably means “_________ ”.
    A.harmful B.unusual C.disappointing D.impossible
6.The writer probably agrees that _________.
A.it’s wise to ask your friends to help you set expectations
B.stress is very likely to help you achieve your expectations
C.parents should avoid setting expectations on their children
D.we should set expectations on others according to the reality
7.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A.To offer advice on how to realize expectations.
B.To explain why people like to set high expectations.
C.To lead people to take a right attitude towards expectations.
D.To encourage people to set high expectations for themselves.

Some animals are “shapeshifting”. This means they are feather changing how their bodies work. Scientists have found that birds’ beaks are larger because of the changing climate (气候). Today, the global climate is rapidly warming.
Scientists found warm-blooded animals can keep their body temperature constant (恒定). They are adapting to a hotter climate. To adapt means to change. Adaptations help animals stay alive in their environment.
    How Animals Cool Off
Animals have to control their body temperature. If they do not, they can overheat. So animals have different methods to help them cool off. Birds, for example, use their beaks, which are not covered by feathers. They help birds reduce body heat. Mammals (哺乳动物), which breathe air, have backbones, grow hair and produce milk, use similar methods. They use their ears, tails and legs to help them control body temperature.
Scientists have studied this in the past years. They have studied animals in warmer climates. They know that some of these animals have evolved (进化) certain features. These features allow animals to reduce body heat more easily. They are becoming more obvious as the climate warms. This is particularly true in birds.
    1
Sara Ryding works at Deakin University in Australia and studies birds. “Shapeshifting does not mean that animals are dealing successfully with climate change and that all is fine,” Ryding said. “It just means they are evolving to stay alive.” The study found that birds are changing the most. For example, several types of Australian parrots showed changes. Their beak size has increased since 1871. Their beaks are now 4% to 10% larger. And that growth matches the summer temperature each year. Scientists have also reported changes in other animals. Tail lengths have increased in wood mice. Bats in warm climates have increased wing size, too. These changes might seem small, but Ryding says that could change as the planet becomes hotter.
Ryding wants to keep studying “shapeshifting”. She will 3D scan museum bird samples (样品) from the past 100 years. She will see which birds are changing the size of their beaks because of climate change by studying digital copies of bird samples. Ryding thinks the climate change that we have created is putting pressure (压力) on animals, so humans should do more than just recognize the changes that animals have to make. She says that some animals will adapt. However, others will not.
    8.In “shapeshifting”, ______.
A.birds breathe air and change backbones
B.bird samples are made into digital copies
C.birds use their feathers to easily reduce body heat
D.birds’ beaks grow larger because of climate change
9.Which of the following would be the best heading for Paragraph 5 and 6?
A.What Animals Look Like B.All Is Not Well
C.Though Life Is Challenging D.It Is Worth A Try
10.According to the last paragraph, Ryding probably agrees that ______.
A.animals are suffering from human behavior
    B.technology won’t end animal “shapeshifting”
C.humans haven’t realized animal “shapeshifting” yet
D.it is natural for animals to experience climate change
(2022·北京西城·九年级期末)How GPS Weakens Memory — and What We Can Do about It

Using mobile phones to navigate (导航) has become second nature. Whether you’re heading to a new park or meeting friends at a restaurant, you just enter the address on your phone and go. Without GPS, exploring (探索) and wayfinding in new places required preparation. We had to think, check paper maps, and plan and memorize ways there. But today there is no need to think. Simply follow the turn-by-turn directions on your phone, and you’ll end up where you need to be. However, your overall sense of the place suffers. Spatial (空间的) navigation used to be a process performed by the human brain and perceptual system, but now people have surrendered it to technology.
There are areas of the brain that deal with these difficult pathfinding tasks. In particular, the hippocampus is related to spatial memory, spatial navigation and mental (在脑中的) mapping. Studies show that we can exercise the hippocampus memory through exploration and spatial navigation. For example, expert navigators like London taxi drivers have larger hippocampi compared to other people.
However, when we follow a set of turn-by-turn directions, GPS navigation apps treat us as passive passengers rather than active explorers. In turn, this stops us from being able to create proper mental maps, and has an effect on the hippocampus, which is very important for brain health.
While improvements in technology clearly have many benefits, we must remain mindful that technology can influence the brain. Our question is: Can we find a way to still use GPS but reduce the harmful effects on memory?
The challenge is to create other forms of GPS navigation that will remain easy enough for the general public, and at the same time, enable people to improve their spatial sense. Our research finds that properly designed audio beacons (音频信标) offer a much more active form of GPS navigation. For example, with an audio beacon at a hospital, when we are two miles away from the hospital, we can hear a sound through our phone. In recent experiments, we discover that this type of sensory navigation through audio beacons does better than turn-by-turn navigation in the creation of mental maps. We believe these results, at least in part, come from people taking a more active role in their navigation.
GPS navigation using audio beacons offers a good example that helps humans connect more deeply with reality; perhaps instead of turning into mindless robots, we will be able to become more deeply involved with humanity, our local environment, and life itself.
    11.GPS weakens people’s memory because it ______.
A.records the places people have been to
B.offers people more than one way to a place
C.takes the place of thinking process in wayfinding
D.fails to teach people how to prepare for exploring
12.The words “have surrendered it to” in Paragraph 1 probably means ______.
A.have compared it to B.have given it up to
C.have learned it from D.have taken it away from
13.London taxi drivers are mentioned in Paragraph 2 to show that ______.
A.GPS is not widely used in London
B.the hippocampus memory can be exercised
    C.hard-working drivers have larger hippocampi
D.active explorers are better than passive passengers
14.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Turn-by-turn GPS navigation helps create mental maps.
B.Audio beacons technology will be replaced in the future.
C.Users’ active role should be considered in navigation technology.
D.GPS navigation apps have come a long way in helping with our memory.
(2022·北京朝阳·九年级期末)Do you ever feel like you are running from one activity to another, or studying a mad rush of one subject after another?
When things happen at such a fast pace (节奏), it is easy to lose sight of what you are doing, or what you are learning. It is important to stop yourself every now and then to think about what you’ve been doing or learning.
Self reflection means stopping the mad rush of activity and calming yourself and your mind so your brain can weigh the information it has already received. Some people prefer to do their self reflections in their minds, while others keep written notes. Either method can work, depending on what your own personal style is. Whether thought or written, the process is the same.
School textbooks are often divided into units. This can make it easier for someone who wants to begin the process of self reflection to get started. Watch for the times when you complete a unit in any subject you are learning: math, history, science, or any other topic. Sometimes you are reminded that the unit is over because there is some kind of test.
Use these natural breaks as opportunities to stop and reflect. Find a quiet place. This can even be sitting at your desk at school when you finish something early and the other students are still working. If you are going to take notes, take out a piece of paper or your reflection notebook. Take down some quick notes on things that you learned in this unit that you did not know before you began. Let your mind think over the notes you have written and make some connections.
Sometimes just stopping to think deeply allows your brain to make connections so that new information can be quickly recalled (回想起) when you need it again. Next, think about things that you still wonder. For example, maybe you learned a new way to solve a math problem, but you’re not sure when to use it. Writing down your questions will help you remember to continue looking for answers the next time you come across the same topic.
Self reflection is an essential (必不可少的) skill for a successful student. If you have never taken time to reflect, try it now.
15.What do you have to do for self reflection?
A.To divide your textbook into some small parts.
B.To take down some notes quickly and carefully.
C.To calm your mind and make some connections.
D.To get fully prepared for the test at the end of a unit.
16.What can we learn about self reflection from the passage?
A.It needs a quiet and comfortable place.
B.It is a must for a successful student.
C.It can help solve all the problems.
D.It depends on the same method.
17.What is the writer’s purpose in writing this passage?
A.To prove the necessity of self reflection.
B.To introduce some effective ways to do self reflection.
C.To encourage students to try self reflection and become successful.
D.To argue the importance of self reflection to students’ development.
(2022·北京朝阳·九年级期末)Tears can ruin (毁坏) make-up, bring a conversation to a stop, and give you a runny nose. They can leave you ashamed and without energy. However, crying is a fact of life, and tears are very useful. Even when you’re not crying, your eyes produce tears. These create a film over the eye’s surface. This film has something that protects your eyes.
Tears comfort stress, but we get used to fighting them for all sorts of reasons. “People worry about showing their emotions. They’re afraid that once they lose control, they’ll never get it back,” explains Doctor Dorothy Rowe. “As children we were sometimes punished for shedding (流下) tears or expressing anger. As adults we still fear the results of showing emotions.”
Almost any emotion-good or bad, happy or sad can cause tears. Crying is a way that we ease (舒缓) built-up emotions. Tears can help you when you feel you are ready to blow up because of very strong feelings. It may explain why people who are afraid to cry often suffer more heart attacks than people who cry more freely.
When some people become very stressed, however, they can’t cry. They may be feeling anger, fear or sadness, but they repress the emotion. “Everyone has the need to cry,” says Doctor Vera Diamond. Sometimes in therapy sessions (心理辅导), patients join in crying exercises. They practice crying so that they can get used to expressing emotion. Diamond says it’s best to cry in safe and private places because many people get uncomfortable when others cry in front of them. In fact, they may be repressing their own need to cry as well.
In certain situations, such as at work, tears are not proper. It’s good to control tears during a tense (紧张的) business discussion. “But once you are safely behind closed doors, don’t just cry,” Diamond says. She suggests that you act out the whole situation again and be as noisy and angry as you like. It will help you feel comfortable. She adds, “once your tears have eased the stress, you can begin to think of reasonable ways to deal with the problem.”
Tears are a sign of our ability to feel. You should never be afraid to cry.
18.What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?
A.Why people are afraid to cry.
B.How tears can do people good.
    C.How emotions may influence people.
D.What different groups of people think of tears.
19.The word “repress” in Paragraph 4 probably means “__________.”
    A.take out B.put away C.keep up D.hold back
20.Why does the writer mention Diamond’s suggestion in Paragraph 5?
A.To show how tears help people.
    B.To stress disadvantages of crying.
C.To prove why it’s good not to cry.
D.To introduce ways to control tears.
21.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
A.Don’t Believe in Tears B.Cry as You Want
C.Don’t Take Cry Seriously D.The Value of Tears
    (2022·北京丰台·九年级期末)
We human beings share one world and live on the same planet. The earth is beautiful and it’s our responsibility to protect it and the environment. As students, maybe we can’t do a lot about cars and factories, but we can also make our own efforts to make a difference.
Last weekend, my dad and I threw away my textbooks into intelligent waste-management recycling bins (智能垃圾分类回收机). Those textbooks are what I used in my primary school and stayed in my room for a very long time.
I once heard of Xiaohuanggou from one of my classmates. After learning about it, I told my dad about its use and purpose. Xiaohuanggou is a tech firm (科技公司) which has set up many intelligent waste-management recycling bins across the country. The bins help people sort (分类) and recycle their waste. People can throw away objects they no longer need into the bins. The intelligent bins will then weigh the objects and give rewards (奖励) to people. Then the rewards can be spent on products from the company’s app, online games or donated to charities (做慈善捐助).
Considering that there were many textbooks that I didn’t need any more, both my dad and I thought it was a good idea to throw them into the intelligent bins. As the intelligent bins can sort them, it would be more helpful and easier for workers to process (处理) the garbage.
However, many people might just throw rubbish away without sorting it. This makes it difficult to process the garbage, and much of it will be put into landfills (垃圾场) instead of being recycled. But by encouraging people with rewards, I think that Xiaohuanggou may raise public awareness (提升公众意识) of garbage sorting.
Human beings live on the earth. It is meaningful to sort garbage to protect the environment. It is not a difficult task to sort garbage before processing it. Let’s take actions together.
22.What can the intelligent waste-management recycling bins do?
①Sort the waste.                ②Recycle the waste.
③Weigh the waste.                ④Throw away the waste.
    A.①②③ B.①②④ C.①③④ D.②③④
23.What can we learn about Xiaohuanggou?
A.The writer once heard of Xiaohuanggou from one of her teachers.
B.The rewards can be spent on products from the company’s app.
C.The rubbish without sorting makes garbage processing easier.
D.The rewards may raise public awareness of garbage sorting.
24.Which of the following would be the best title of the passage?
    A.Setting Up a Tech Firm B.Developing a New App
C.Throwing Rubbish Away D.Recycling the Smart Way
    (2022·北京丰台·九年级期末)
According to a recent report, about 18% of China’s Internet users are under 19 years old. And nearly 1/4 of them are students. While benefiting a lot from the Internet, such as education and communication, teenagers often face dangers and risks. To better protect them, the Chinese government last year launched(启动) a special system which has come to be known as the “Teenager Mode(模式).” Many live online video platforms(平台) are now using it, but how effective is it?
“Teenager Mode” seems to be a firewall to protect teenage Internet users from overuse. Platforms have their own ways to do that, such as time limits and passwords. They can also prohibit rewarding, recharging(续费) and so on.
Although there are some advantages, “Teenager Mode” still has its problems. For example, many parents complain that their children can still see something unsuitable on some platforms although they use “Teenager Mode”. And if teenagers get hold of the full password, they can enter and exit whenever they like.
Experts say the system is still very new and it takes time and energy to improve it. “‘Teenager Mode’ doesn’t have the same standard yet. For platforms, they should make every effort to truly meet the requirements of the regulatory authorities (管理当局的要求),” said Wang Sixin, the president of Beijing Net Law Society.
Others say “Teenager Mode” doesn’t really limit the time teenagers spend online. They can simply go from one app or platform to another till they use up the time limit on each. To improve it, first of all, the time spent on each app or platform needs to be shared. Second, in order to help parents control their children’s time spent online, the app or platform can trigger(触发) an alarm to warn the parents.
In all, the system is an important first step to protect young people from the dangers and risks of the Internet, but more needs to be done.
25.According to the passage, “Teenager Mode” is launched to ________.
A.keep teenagers far away from their computers
B.show teenagers the benefits of the Internet
C.stop teenagers from overusing the Internet
D.protect teenagers from the dangers in their schools
26.The word “prohibit” in Paragraph 2 probably means ________.
    A.provide B.allow C.change D.stop
27.What can you learn from the passage?
A.The “Teenager Mode” can only set passwords.
B.The “Teenager Mode” still has some problems.
C.Experts say the system will be improved soon.
D.Teenagers’ online time can be reduced successfully.
28.What is the writer’s purpose in writing this passage?
A.To tell teenagers not to use the Internet.
B.To point out the disadvantages of the Internet.
C.To discuss the effects of the “Teenager Mode”.
D.To encourage parents to use the “Teenager Mode”.
(2022·北京海淀·九年级期末)Everyone wants to be well-liked. As humans, we are born with the need to be valued and liked by others. Being part of a group has been necessary in a lot of ways. Connection is a basic human need.
Many people feel as though they have to be a certain way to be well-liked. They think others will like them more if they put their best selves forward, don’t make mistakes, and always know the right thing to say. However, some surprising science may be putting all this in question.
    The Pratfall Effect
It turns out that people who never make mistakes are actually less likeable. According to an experiment by Elliot Aronson in the 1960s, people who made a small blunder, such as dropping coffee over their shirt, were considered more likeable than those who didn’t. This was only true for people who were considered competent (有能力的) in the first place, though. This phenomenon (现象) was termed the Pratfall Effect.
The Pratfall Effect shows that it’s not only okay to make mistakes, but it can actually be helpful to us. Vulnerability (weakness) is endearing (讨人喜欢的). It helps us form connections with others. When we understand where someone is coming from an connection with them, we develop a deep emotional bond and like them more.
Apply this to your own life
You can use this information to your advantage. Firstly, it’s important to know likeability depends on context. What someone finds endearing in one situation may not work in another, and different people might find different qualities more likeable. Sometimes the things we dislike the most about ourselves are the most endearing to others. The same can be true for the opposite. Just be your true self and people will find what they love most about you.
Secondly, vulnerability is a good thing. Sharing the most inner, real parts of yourselves can create meaningful connections. Pretending (假装) to be perfect is not something that people find endearing. But opening up is something that people can easily connect with.
Likeability is not as straightforward as you might think. What you think makes you more likeable might actually make you less likeable. Stop pretending you never make mistakes. It’s the best path to a true and meaningful human connection.
29.What can we learn from the Pratfall Effect?
A.Life experience can be enriched by making mistakes.
B.The fear of making mistakes makes people more careful.
C.People who make small mistakes may turn out to be more likeable.
D.The ability to learn from mistakes makes a person more competent.
30.What is the writer’s opinion on vulnerability?
A.It leads us to the right way to be perfect.
B.It works as a smart way to express our opinions.
C.It makes other people feel better about themselves.
D.It helps us form meaningful connections with others.
31.The writer suggests that we should stay true to ourselves because ________.
A.likeability varies in different cases B.no one can be perfect
C.we should accept and like who we are D.it’s hard to pretend all the time
32.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
A.A Secret to Improving Your Quality of Life
B.A Key to Being Likeable When Making Mistakes
C.The Possible Benefits of Building up Connections
D.The Surprising Science Behind Being Well-liked
    (2022·北京海淀·九年级期末)
Imagine you are ordering for your roommates. You remember Laura prefers banana ice cream to chocolate. It could be a fact for it was proved by observing her behavior. However, the ice cream preference could be an opinion that shows her personal choice. While it’s nice to think the world is clearly divided into matters of fact and matters of opinion, it’s not always the case.
What we think are facts — those things we think are true — can end up being wrong. Calling something a fact is not a promise of infallibility (无误). The famous writer, Asimov expressed this in his article The Relativity of Wrong. For him, the person who thinks the Earth is flat is wrong, and so is the person who thinks the Earth is a sphere. A fact is usually used to represent the best knowledge we have at a certain time.
Then again, calling something an opinion doesn't mean an escape to the fairyland of wishful thinking. If we think of an opinion as one person’s view on a subject, then many opinions can be solid. For example, it’s my opinion that science provides us with a powerful tool to help understand our place in the universe. It’s not a fact that science does so, but it works for me.
But we can be much clearer in our meaning if we divide things into matters of fact and matters of opinion. Matters of fact are limited to empirical statements (实证表达), such as what the boiling point of water is. Matters of opinion are non-empirical statements, which include questions of value and of personal preference such as whether it's better to eat more vegetables than meat.
Matters of opinion can be informed by matters of fact (for example, finding out that vegetables are rich in vitamins can change my food preference), but finally they are not answered by matters of fact (why does it matter to me that vegetables are rich in vitamins?)
Opinions are not just pale shadows (影子) of facts. They are judgements and conclusions. They can be the result of careful consideration in areas for which empirical research is not enough or ill-suited.
Facts and opinions shouldn’t be put in opposition to each other, as they can both play a necessary role in our decision-making. But that’s just my opinion, not a fact.
33.The writer mentions Asimov’s article in Paragraph 2 to show ________.
A.different opinions result in heated arguments
B.repeating facts can make others agree with us
C.what we take as facts may turn out to be wrong
D.it is difficult to predict how facts change over time
34.The word “informed” in Paragraph 5 probably means “________”.

When you close your eyes and need to rest, sleep is just the very best. Sleep helps your body grow and stay healthy. However, in the animal world, it seems that some animals don’t need much sleep.
Giraffes usually sleep, although not for a long time. In places like zoos, giraffes have been known to sleep for between four and five hours, mostly at night. During sleep, the animal may lie down or stay standing. Standing sleep is more common among older giraffes. In the wild, however, the animals almost never sleep for longer than five minutes at a time. More often, they sleep fully standing and their eyes are half-open so they can see an enemy getting close.
Deer (鹿) do not sleep much during the day or the night. In fact, the night is a dangerous time for the animal to sleep because some of their enemies look for food at night. However, deer try their best to sleep for three to four hours. Even when sleeping, they have to be careful so that they do not become food for their enemies.
The Alpine Swift (雨燕) is a bird that lives in places from southern Europe all the way to the Himalayas. These birds spend a lot of their time flying to the warmer places and all the way to the south of Africa. The birds may spend up to 200 days flying during their journey. These birds sleep while they fly. The Alpine Swifts are able to sleep with one side of their brain while the other side pays much attention to flying and finding enemies.
Dolphins (海豚) usually go to sleep with only one side of their brain so that they use the other side of their brain for swimming and to watch out for enemies. Some dolphins do not go to sleep in the first month of their lives. Instead, they rest by pushing their bodies against their mothers so that they do not drown (淹死).Mothers need to make sure that they do not go to sleep. That is why mother dolphins are able to go for at least a month without sleeping.
36.Deer stay awake most of the time to ________ .
A.smell danger B.look for food C.feed their young D.move to another place
37.What is special about the Alpine Swift?
A.It sleeps during the day. B.It can stay awake for 200 days.
C.It can sleep while it flies. D.It needs no sleep in warm places.
38.What do dolphins and the Alpine swifts have in common?
A.Babies don’t sleep at all. B.Mothers sleep less than fathers.
C.Babies rest with their mothers. D.They sleep with half of their brain.
(2022·北京门头沟·九年级期末)Your college years, the one time in your life can you truly enjoy the art of staying up late. Others may be fooled into thinking that your sleepless nights are the result of hard study, but we know the real reason why you’re burning the midnight oil.
Does this sound familiar(熟悉)? Every evening, after returning to your dorm(宿舍), you sit checking your smartphone for a few minutes, which quickly turns into a few hours. When you do finally get round to looking at your homework, you can only manage to write a few words before you become bored.
To stop from falling asleep, you decide to play a video game just a few rounds, to put new energy in your mind so you can start working again. But the next time you check the clock, it’s already the few hours of the morning.
That’s when you realize there’s no time left to procrastinate. So you take a hold of your pen and get to work, on the one hand regretting the lack(缺乏)of time you have to complete your task, while also accepting praises from your roommates for studying so hard.
You tell yourself you stay up late because you are a hard worker. In fact you’re fooling yourself.
In the dark of night, only a few light spots(光点)can be seen in your almost-empty office. Now and then, the silence is broken by the keyboard taps(击声). Although you work overtime every day, you still haven’t managed to reach the goals you set for yourself.
But why should this be? You’re careful not to get distracted(分神)by your phone, and seldom sit around daydreaming. Still, you’ve hardly anything to show for all the extra(额外的)time you spend in the office. So you hold your head in your hands and cry out: where did the time go?
You might feel busy every day, but in truth you’re finishing little.
All your time is spent imagining a great future, without ever actually doing what’s needed to make that dream a reality.
In your mind, you work harder than anyone else, but your results show this to be a lie.

39.Which of the following would be the best title?
A.Are you really trying hard? B.Are you hardly trying?
C.Where did the time go? D.Are you really still at work?
40.The word “procrastinate” in Paragraph 5 probably means “________”.
    A.think again B.put off C.study hard D.stay up
41.What can we learn from the passage?

The connection between people and plants has long been the subject of scientific research. Recent studies have found positive effects. A study in Youngstown, Ohio, discovered that greener areas of the city experienced less crime(犯罪). In another, workers were shown to be 15% more effective when their workplaces were beautified with houseplants.
The engineers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT) have taken it a step further changing the actual composition(成分) of plants in order to get them to perform differently, even unusual useful things that they do. These include plants that have sensors(传感器) printed onto their leaves to show when they’re short of water and a plant that can discover harmful chemicals in groundwater.
“We’re thinking about how we can engineer plants to replace some of the things that we use every day, “explained Michael Strano, a professor of chemical engineering at MIT.
One of his latest projects has been to make plants glow(发光) in experiments using some common vegetables. Strano’s team found that they could create a weak light for three-and-a-half hours. The light, about one-thousandth of the amount needed to read by, is just a start. The technology, Strano said, could one day be used to light the rooms or even to turn trees into self-powered street lamps.
In the future, the team hopes to develop the technology and invent something that can be sprayed onto plant leaves in a one-off treatment that would last the plant’s lifetime. The engineers are also trying to develop an on and off “switch” where the glow would disappear gradually when daylight appeared.
Lighting accounts for about 7% of the total electricity used up in the US. Since lighting is often far removed from the power source—such as the distance from a power plant to street lamps on a highway far away—a lot of energy is lost during sending.
Glowing plants could shorten this distance and as a result, help save energy.
42.What is the first paragraph mainly about?
A.A new study of different plants. B.A greener city of less crime.
C.Workers from different workplaces. D.Advantages from green plants.
43.Why are the sensors printed on plant by MIT engineer?
A.To show us the plants need water. B.To keep the compositions of plants.
C.To make the life of plants longer. D.To test chemicals in the plants.
44.What can you learn about the glowing plants according to the passage?
A.They may speed up energy production. B.They will send electricity to the home.
C.They will help to cut down energy use. D.They may take the place of power plants.
(2022·北京房山·九年级期末)I read somewhere that we spend a full third of our lives waiting. But where are we doing all of this waiting, and what does it mean to an impatient society like ours? To answer these questions correctly, let’s take a look at three types of “waits”.
The very purest form of waiting is the Watched-Pot Wait. It is without doubt the most tiring of all. Take filling up the kitchen sink (洗碗池) as an example. There is nothing you can do while this is going on but keep both eyes fixed on the sink until it’s full. During these waits, the brain gets away from the body and wanders about until the water runs over the edge of the counter and onto your socks. This kind of wait makes the waiter helpless and mindless.
A cousin to the Watched-Pot Wait is the Forced Wait. This one requires some rules. Properly preparing packaged noodle soup requires a Forced Wait. Directions are clear in details. “Bring three cups of water to boil, add mix, simmer (炖) three minutes, remove from heat, let stand five minutes.” I have my doubts that anyone has actually followed the processes strictly. After all, Forced Waiting requires patience.
Perhaps the most powerful type of waiting is the Lucky-Break Wait. This type of wait is unusual in that it is for the most part voluntary. Unlike the Forced Wait, which is also voluntary, waiting for your lucky break does not necessarily mean that it will happen.
Turning one’s life into a waiting game requires belief and hope, and is quite useful for the optimists (乐观主义) among us. On the surface it seems as silly as following the directions on soup mixes, but the Lucky-Break Wait well serves those who are willing to do it. As long as one doesn’t come to depend on it, wishing for a few good things to happen never hurts anybody. We certainly do spend a good deal of our time waiting. The next time you’re standing at the sink waiting for it to fill while cooking noodle soup that you’ll have to eat until a large bag of cash falls out of the sky, don’t be hopeless. You’re probably just as busy as the next guy.
45.According to the passage, we have to spend a lot of time to wait because ________.
A.we all live in an impatient society B.the three “waits” are common in our lives
C.we often stand at the sink to wait cooking D.the “waits” helps us get out of the trouble
46.What’s the underlined phrase “wanders about” mean in Paragraph 2?
    A.hangs around B.watches out C.cares about D.comes across
    47.The writer probably agrees ________.
A.the Forced Wait requires some self-control B.the Forced Wait makes people powerful
C.the Watched-Pot Wait needs directions D.the Watched-Pot Wait attracts body and brain
48.What can we learn about the Lucky-Break Wait?
A.It is less voluntary than the Forced Wait. B.It doesn’t always bring the expecting result.
C.It is more mindless than the Forced Wait. D.It doesn’t give people faith and hope.

It is a common experience: You’re checking through a social media page, and you see pictures of friends traveling or going to parties. Suddenly you start to wonder why you are not doing those things. Are you missing out on something fun or exciting? This experience is known as FOMO—the fear of missing out. In some ways, people have always been worried about missing out on social events. But with the rise of social media, FOMO is becoming much more common.
While wanting to take part in exciting things is completely normal, it can bring about some negative (负面的) effects. For some people, it leads to an obsession (沉迷) with checking their phones to find out what other people are doing. Even while doing things that are fun or necessary, people can feel like there’s something better going on elsewhere. This strong wish to connect can make them disconnect from the people they are actually with. It stops them from being satisfied with the good things in their lives. It can even be dangerous; some people try to check messages while driving.
So what can we do to overcome FOMO? Firstly, it is important to remember that what people prefer to pick and choose to post on social media doesn’t necessarily show their life overall, so we only know a small part of anyone else’s life. It is also important to accept your limitations. You can’t be everywhere and do everything that might be interesting, and that’s OK. It might even be necessary to turn off your phone or log out of social media for a while. Stay away from the constant reminders of everything that’s happening in the world. You can even set particular times in your day to check email or social media. By stepping away for a time, you can view others’ lives in a reasonable way. Finally, focus on the things in front of you. Relish them, do them well and let everything else go. When you are fully involved in life, you will worry less about what you are not doing.
Don’t let the fear of missing out cause you to miss out on the good things you have in life. Relax, enjoy what you do and let other people enjoy their lives without envying (羡慕,嫉妒) them.
    49.Experiencing FOMO, people may ________.
A.like to drive fast B.miss out on social events
C.prefer to stay alone D.be unsatisfied with real life
50.What does the underlined word “relish” probably mean?
    A.Break. B.Change. C.Enjoy. D.Remember.
51.According to the passage, what can help people overcome FOMO?
    A.Breaking their own limitations.
    B.Staying away from social media.
C.Making friends as many as possible.
D.Checking social media at particular times.

Chinese athletes did a great job at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, winning 88 medals in total. But did you know that there are many cool technologies behind their success?
Su Bingtian, the first Chinese sprinter, reached an Olympic 100m final. With the help of scientific training, he made his breakthrough. “It takes Su 47 steps to run 100 meters. Each step counts,” Liang Dong, a member of Su’s training team, told Shenzhen Evening News. “Randy Huntington, Su’s American coach and a biomechanics (生物力学) expert in track and field, has collected a lot of data (数据) on outstanding sprinters and built a database. He put in all of Su’s data and got a near-optimal (接近最优的) model. When Su is training, the team uses high-speed cameras to record his training and compares it with the model to find out his weaknesses.”
Technology has also brought a new improvement to table tennis. On July 27, the semifinal match between China’s Sun Yingsha and Japan’s Mimaito was in full swing (正在全力进行) at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium. You wouldn’t have guessed that besides players, judges and audiences, a powerful AI platform was watching the match.
Every serve, swing and movement of Mimaito was caught by this AI cloud platform set in Tokyo. At an average speed of 100 Mbps, the data was sent to the technical team of the Zhejiang University Table Tennis Intelligent Big Data Analysis Platform, 2, 442 kilometers away from the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, according to The Paper.
The platform has stored the data of more than 8, 000 matches so far. The research team has been working on match simulation (模拟) since 2018. “Using big data and AI, we can correctly simulate and predict how the winning rate will change when players change certain tactics (策略),” Professor Wu Yingcai, the main developer of the platform, told CCTV-2.
The Tokyo Olympic Games have seen not only scientific support in training, but many cutting-edge technologies in athletes’ devices (设备). For example, the Kenya women’s volleyball team’s GPS devices fed data on each player’s strength, heart rate and so on to coaches, who used the information to prevent injury (受伤) and personalize training plans for each individual, South China Morning Post reported.
52.What helped Su Bingtian a lot to make his breakthrough?
A.His scientific training. B.Support from his family.
    C.His coach’s encouragement. D.Support from other sprinters.
53.What’s the advantage of match simulation according to Professor Wu Yingcai?
A.Players can study other players’ tactics.
B.Players can know their own weaknesses.
C.It helps players improve their winning rate.
D.It helps judges make the correct judgement.
54.The GPS devices can help coaches ________.
    A.quickly find out players’ information
B.give proper treatment for sports injuries
C.make better decisions for future training
D.follow players’ movement during the game
55.What does the passage mainly talk about?
A.The success of the Tokyo Olympics.

    Chinese Astronaut Bridges Gender(性别)Gap
Wang Yaping, a 41-year-old female(女性) astronaut became the first Chinese woman to enter China’s space station. China’s landmark six-month journey in space has increased a lot of curiosity about the differences between male and female astronauts.
“Astronauts need to meet high physical and emotional standards, so female astronauts will not be exception(特例)from this expectation,” said Pang Zhihao, a spaceflight researcher in Beijing.
“Different from many people’s opinion that it is inconvenient for women to take part in long-term spaceflights, female astronauts actually have many advantages over their male partners in space missions,” Pang said.
Researches on missions with female members in the past have found many physiological indices(生理指数)in women are better than those in males. They are more likely to stay away from iron poisoning, irregular heartbeat and other illnesses.
“Women are usually more careful and normally better at communicating. These advantages are useful in space flights. The presence of a female astronaut brings more possibilities for the mission,” Pang said, saying he looks forward to Wang’s success.
“This is not only an honor, but also a chance for us to research the various advantages female astronauts have when walking into the space,” Pang said. “Their generally smaller size is an advantage, as they’ll be able to control their weight better and, as a result, perform a wider variety of tasks.”
In addition, astronauts often do indoor experiments, and Wang Yaping is not different there. “She plans to study aerospace medicine and space life to prepare future female astronauts for long-term stays in space,” Pang said, “As part of her mission, she is glad to give her second space-based speech during her stay, encouraging young people to go for their space dreams.”
In order to provide a comfortable living environment for her journey, Tianzhou 3, a spacecraft carrying supplies to the China space station, has sent some necessary supplies that keep her clean and healthy. A special spacesuit was also prepared for Wang’s outdoor activities, lighter than the male’s.
56.What can we know about female astronauts from Para. 2-6?
A.They are worse at communicating than males. B.They can do fewer dangerous tasks than males.
C.They have a more proper size than males generally. D.They are more likely to have an illness than males.
57.What does Wang Yaping need to do like male astronauts?
A.She gives the second space-based speech. B.She studies Chinese medicine and space life.
C.She provides a comfortable living environment. D.She meets high physical and emotional standards.
58.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A.To stress the importance of sending more female astronauts. B.To discuss the problems that female astronauts probably meet.
C.To show the advantages that female astronauts have over males. D.To remind us of the risk of finishing tasks for female astronauts.
(2022·北京昌平·九年级期末)If you’ve decided to read more, you’re not alone. However, one of the challenges with books is making time to read them all. In a classic guide How to Read a Book, Mortimer J. Adler and Charles Van Doren provide a solution; Don’t try to read all of them, because most of them aren’t worth it. You can get the best ideas from most books simply by skimming them. Skimming also prepares you to learn more when you actually read the book.
There are two levels of Adler and Van Doren‘’s method of skimming. One includes looking through contents (目录) and conclusions of each chapter and making notes of what you already know or whether this book has information you want to learn. The second is known as speed reading, which is basically reading through a book really fast, just to get a surface-level understanding of it.
In order to get knowledge quickly, people try their best to study and take use of skills, but the obsession with reading faster and learning more is not completely right. Reading two books doesn’t make a person twice as learned as a person who reads one book twice(or even once, carefully).
Here’s how you can really use skimming to your advantage.
Don’t feel bad for skimming instead of reading. If the book was any good, it's likely to realize how important it is for you to read the whole thing when you skim the book.
When you read for inspiration that you can use to your work, you need to read documents (文件) for your work, or to improve your skills. Then there’s no doubt that skimming will be quite useful.
When you do find a book you like, don’t try to rush through it to the end. Slow down and take notes. Reread certain parts you don’t understand in detail. Connect the book’s ideas with other ideas or experiences you have.
Skimming is simply a tool to support the overall reading experience. It helps you choose the right thing to read. Learning is not about how many books you read, or even how fast you read. It’s about what you get from each of those books.
59.What can we know from Mortimer J. Adler and Charles Van Doren?
A.Readers need to connect the book’s ideas with theirs.
B.It’s impossible to read all the books for most readers.
C.Skimming helps us to learn more when actually reading.
D.We can get the best ideas from books simply by skimming.
60.What does the underlined word “obsession” probably mean?
A.The idea which is wrong or untrue.
B.The state of being crazy about something.
C.The method that people use to solve problems.
D.The act of disagreeing with something strongly.
61.According to the passage, readers will ________ by skimming.
    A.have the best reading experience
B.reread a book as fast as possible
C.feel regretful for reading part of the book
D.judge whether they need to read the whole book
62.What is the passage mainly about?
A.The opinions on skimming from different people.
B.The importance of reading books fast by skimming.
C.The methods of reading uninteresting books by skimming.
D.The suggestions of reading books effectively by skimming.
    (2022·北京大兴·九年级期末)Why do we celebrate festivals?
It is human nature to love celebrations. Some festivals have been celebrated for centuries or thousands of years. So, what are the reasons behind all these celebrations?
Festival is a Part of Culture
Some festivals are celebrated in memory of an important person or an important event, such as the Dragon Boat Festival in China and the Independence Day in the U.S. Some festivals are celebrated to welcome new life, such as the Spring Festival in China and Easter (复活节) in western countries. All these festivals are of great importance and have become necessary parts of the country’s culture.
Festival is a Part of Social and Economic Life
People also celebrate festivals for social and economic (经济) reasons. Festivals can bring freshness to life and they can also help us reduce boredom. The celebrations of a national festival are also good chances to make people feel closer and become more united. Besides, a country’s economy may get active because of the celebration of some festivals.
    Festival Can be Scientific
Festivals can also be celebrated for scientific reasons. But how and why a celebration can be scientific? The reason is psychological (心理的). Have you heard about Placebo Effects (安慰剂效应)? Just imagine that there would be a celebration of an event, a patient may start feeling better because of the event. And these feelings can work as medicine and the patient may get well without any treatment. Sometimes a person gets well from a serious illness just by thinking he should remain alive so that his family members could celebrate festivals together. So festivals can sometimes work as a reason for living.
    ______________________
History repeats. But can we stop repeating the mistakes of history? Yes, we can do so by celebrating festivals. When we celebrate festivals, we also remember the historical events related to them. Science has affected the history of the world by creating new inventions and new technology to celebrate the festivals but it has also caused disasters (灾难) . The celebration of Diwali in India with fireworks is a festival but the atomic bombs during the war is a disaster. National festivals like Independence Day, remind us of the history of the nation and the efforts that the country had made for freedom.
63.According to the passage, Mid-Autumn Festival is probably ________.
A.a part of social life B.a part of economic life
C.a part of scientific life D.a part of historical life
64.Which of the following would be the best heading for Paragraph 5?
    A.Festivals Can Affect History.
B.Festivals Can Remind Us of History.
C.Festivals Can be Disasters in the History.
D.Festivals Can Repeat Mistakes in the History.
65.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Festivals can help history to repeat.
B.Festivals are the most important events in the world.
C.The Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated for economic reasons.
D.Festival celebrations can sometimes benefit the economy of a country.

    Great BDIA—Beijing Daxing International Airport
Have you ever taken a flight from Beijing Daxing International Airport (BDIA)? It drew attention not just for convenient and environmentally friendly design, but also for its many high-tech facilities(设施) and services.
The new airport, designed by the famous Iraqi-British architect  ( 建筑师) Zaha Hadid. The Daxing airport’s technology centers on passengers’ safety and convenience. The airport was designed in a special way that makes it look like a starfish. This kind of design also helps to shorten the walking distance for passengers.
The airport has also been designed to be environmentally friendly. It uses natural light during the day. Thanks in part to 8,000 rooftop windows, the sunlight can shine directly into the building.
There are less than 10,000 lights in the terminal. The brightness of the lights can be changed according to the temperature inside and how many people are in the building. The lights use 70 percent less power than the lights of the Beijing Capital International Airport, which uses more than 20,000 lights. This can save about 8,850 tons of coal and reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions ( 排 放 ) by 22,000 tons a year, China Daily reported.
The airport has many new technologies that make it smarter and more efficient. It is the world’s first airport with a double-deck departure and arrival (双进双出) design for its building. “Passengers use much less time than they do in any other large airport t of the same size in the world,” Guo Yanchi, the leading engineer in charge of building, told China Daily.

According to the Civil Aviation Administration  of China, 86 percent of check-ins can be done through self-service check-in kiosks and 76 percent of luggage can be checked automatically (自动地) with the help of self-service bag-drop machines. Other technologies, such as a facial recognition system, allow passengers to have a quicker check-in and boarding process.
The airport will also use a robot-operated parking system. Drivers just need to park their cars in given areas. Robots will then carry them to an empty space. When collecting their cars, drivers simply need to scan (扫描) a parking ticket to find out where to collect their cars.
66.Why do we say BDIA’s design is friendly to our environment?
A.The building of the airport doesn't cost not too much.
B.It can save energy and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
C.The design helps to shorten the walking distance for passengers.
D.It was designed by legendary Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid.
    67.The underlined word “efficient” in paragraph 5 probably means “ ________ ”
    A.modern B.creative C.time-saving D.energy-saving
68.What do we know from the last two paragraphs?
    A.Robots will help passengers board.
B.Passengers won’t need to check in in person.
C.Passengers will spend less time boarding at BDIA.
D.Machines will probably replace human workers at the airport.
69.The passage mainly tells us ________.
A.how the Iraqi-British architect designed BDIA
B.why BDIA is designed into the shape of a starfish
C.how high technology helps BDIA to be environmental friendly
D.that high technology has made BDIA the first class airport in the world

Reading is fun! In addition to reading for fun, though, we can also analyze (分析) texts to learn more from the texts and more about the texts. One way we can do this with story books, passages, or poems is by discovering what the theme is exactly.
The theme of a book is the “big idea” that runs throughout the text, which connects the characters and events. Many times, it is related to what the main character learned over the course of the story. Most of the time, the theme of a book is not written out in the words, you have to use clues in the text to infer it. Themes can be ideas like friendship, bravery, love, honesty or family. The theme might not be able to be said in just one word though. It might be an idea such as, “Be careful what you wish for.” There may also be more than one theme in a story.
To start finding the theme, first you need to make sure you’ve read the whole text. Characters change throughout the story, so what you might think is the theme in the beginning might not be true at the end!
After you read the text, summarize the plot. What important events happened during the story? What was the problem? How was the problem solved? How did the character(s) change? What did the character(s) learn?
Use the answers from those questions to see if you can recognize a pattern (模式). Did a lot of the plot revolve (围绕) around friendship? Did many characters solve problems with their families? Did hard work pay off for the main character? Did the main character learn the importance of fairness?
Once you’ve discovered what the big idea is, go through the text to find evidence that supports this idea throughout the whole text. click
“Click!” That’s the sound of safety. That’s the sound of survival. That’s the sound of a seat belt locking in place. Seat belts save lives and that’s a fact. That’s why I must wear the seat belt at once when I get into a car. It’s a choice between life and death. Which one do you choose?
Think about it. When you’re driving in a car at the speed of 60 MPH or faster, then somebody ahead of you brakes (刹车). Your driver doesn’t have time to stop. Now it has suddenly stopped. Your body, however, is still going 60 MPH. Will it be the windshield or your seat belt to stop your body? Every time that you get into a car, you make that choice. I choose the seat belt.
Some people think that seat belts are uncool. They think that seat belts make them feel that they cannot behave in the way they want, or are uncomfortable. To them I say, what’s more uncomfortable? Wearing a seat belt or flying through a car windshield? What’s more uncool? Being safe in a car, or lying on the road? So wearing a seat belt is both cooler and more comfortable.
Let’s just take a closer look at your choices. If you are not wearing your seat belt, you can move around in the car easily. That sounds like a lot of fun. But, you are also more likely to die or suffer serious injuries. If you are wearing a seat belt, you have to stay in your seat. That’s no fun. But, you are much more likely to walk away unharmed from a car accident. Hmmm... A small pleasure or a serious pain, I think I’ll avoid the serious pain.
Do you like to give your money away? Probably not. But when you don’t have a seat belt on, you have to give money to the city, because the law requires people in car to wear seat belts.
Wearing a seat belt does not make you invincible (坚不可摧的). You can still get hurt or killed while you’re wearing your seat belt. But wearing them has proven to be safer than driving without them. So why not take the safer way? You do want to live, don’t you?
73.The writer starts the passage with the word click because he is trying to ________.
A.get the readers’ attention B.make the readers feel frightened
C.describe what it’s like to ride in a car D.remind readers how seat belts sound when accidents happen
74.What do you know from the passage?
A.You should pay more when you dont have a seat belt on.
B.Wearing a seat belt is not more comfortable but cooler.
C.You can’t stop your car when it is going over 60 MPH.
D.Wearing seat belts keeps you from flying through the windshield.
75.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
A.Car Accidents: Ways That We Can Prevent Them
B.Slow Down: Save Lives By Driving Slower
C.Seat Belts: Wear Them To Survive In An Accident
D.Get Ready: Check Your Seat Belt Before Driving
76.What is the writers main purpose in writing this passage?
A.To tell readers about seat belt laws of his country.
B.To ask readers to wear seat belts while they’re in the car.
C.To share some stories and jokes about seat belts.
D.To describe what car accidents are like without seat belts.
(2022·北京密云·九年级期末)My dear boys and girls, good morning. Today I’m going to talk to you about my understanding of learning history.
Many of you may think it is a terrible thing to study history. You may often wonder why we students should study something that has nothing to do with our own lives. If you think that way, I should say you are far from the truth.
In fact, if we study history, we can learn quite a lot about personal stories and events of people just like us. The people who came before us helped build and develop the country we are living in. Their ideas often solved many of our problems and troubles. Studying the past helps us to understand what our ancestors’ (祖先) lives were like. And it also helps us to see how their experiences have shaped our own life.
To be honest, ▲ . Some of what we study in history helps us understand the mistakes of the past. And these mistakes will help people not to do the same wrong things. People often learn from the past to have a better future.
Whether we like the subject of history or not, we must understand the importance of the events and the people who came before us. Our ancestors’ decisions have influenced our own life. Similarly, the decisions of our own generation will finally influence those who come after us. In this only way, the world is truly connected.
History is not just a study of the past. History is the study of people, places, and events that can influence the future.
Now do you still think studying history is a sad thing? Or do you have any doubt about learning history? If you have any questions, just feel free to ask.
77.If we study history, we can learn that ________.
A.history has nothing to do with our own lives
B.our ancestors helped build and develop our country
C.our ancestors’ ideas solved all our problems and troubles
D.our ancestors’ experiences can’t shape our own life
78.Which of the following can be put in the ▲ in Paragraph 4?
A.the mistakes of the past won’t help us B.I don’t like the idea of learning history
C.it is not easy to learn the subject of history D.not everything that happened in the past is good
79.The writer wrote the passage to ________.
A.introduce some important people in history
B.develop students’ interest in learning history
C.explain different people’s understanding of history
D.show the relationship between the past and the future

As computers become more popular in China, Chinese people are increasingly relying on computer keyboards to input Chinese characters. But if they use the computer too much, they may end up forgetting the exact strokes (笔画) of each Chinese character when writing on paper. Experts suggest people, especially students, write by hand more.
Do you write by hand more or type more? In Beijing, students start using a computer as early as primary school. And computer dependence is more wide-spread among university students. Almost all their assignments and essays are typed on a computer.
All the students interviewed say they usually use a computer. It’s faster and easier to correct if using a computer. And that’s why computers are being applied more and more often to modem education.
“When I’m writing with a pen, I find I often can’t remember how to write a character, though I feel I’m familiar with it.”
“I’m not in the mood(情绪,心情) to write when faced with a pen and paper.” Many students don’t feel this is something to worry about. Now that it’s more convenient and efficient to write on a computer, why bother to handwrite?
Many educators think differently. Shi Liwei, the headmaster of a famous primary school in the capital, said, “Chinese characters enjoy both practical and aesthetic value. But those characters typed with computer keyboards only maintain their practical value. All the artistic beauty of the characters is lost. And handwriting contains the writer’s emotion. Through one’s handwriting, people can get to know one’s thinking and personality. Beautiful writing will give people a better first impression of them.”
To encourage students to handwrite more, many primary schools in Beijing have made writing classes compulsory and in universities, some professors are asking students to turn in their homework and essays written by hand.
80.The students interviewed prefer to write using a computer mainly because ________.
A.they are usually asked to e-mail their homework and essays
B.they find it not easy to remember how to write a character
C.they can correct the mistakes they make quickly and conveniently
D.computers have become a trend (趋势)and fashion in China
81.The word “aesthetic” in Paragraph 6 probably means“________”.
    A.artistic B.useful C.ugly D.displeasing
82.From the passage we can infer that ________.
A.more and more students will give up writing on a computer
B.writing by hand will give way to typing by computer one day
C.the typing article better expresses one’s feelings and quality
D.more and more students will pay attention to handwriting
83.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
    A.To Type or to Handwrite
    B.The Value of Chinese Characters
C.Writing by Computer will Replace Writing by Hand
D.The Importance of Handwriting and Typing
