    2022·重庆·中考真题)阅读下面短文,根据短文内容,完成下列各题。

“Do you want to grow your own vegetables?” Mom asked “Yes!” My eyes got wide. Mom smiled at my excitement. She gave me a book on gardening, and I carefully planted some seeds(种子) in the backyard.

After supper, I rushed to see how much they might grow. Nothing! My mouth dropped “Someone stole my seeds!” Mom laughed from ear to ear. She said “Johnny, go and check the book.” I hung my head down. I read the book and I knew something needed to be done.

Early the next morning, I ran to the back yard. Everything looked the same but I wasn’t that disappointed(失望). As the book said, I lightly watered my seeds and stuck my finger in the soil(泥土) to make sure it wasn’t too dry. That evening, I couldn’t help going to check my garden again. No sign of anything green. Just dirt.

The next morning I raced to the garden again. No changes. “Why is it taking so long for the seeds to grow?” I asked. “Grow up!” I shouted. “Please, just grow,” I almost cried. Mom was too busy with housework to help. “Read the book, and wait patiently.” So I read it again. I removed(除去) the grass from the soil and watered the seeds.

Then one morning, I walked out to my garden. I wasn’t expecting to see anything yet. To my surprise, a little bit of green came into my eyes. I got down on my knees for a closer look. “They grew!” I shouted. I could see little green leaves growing everywhere! I was so excited “They finally grew! The book is right.” It took several days for the seeds to be in the soil before popping up.

Desert Control is a huge challenge. In the past, China had much to learn from the rest of the world. But now the shoe is on the other foot. It’s time for China!

A Special GlueResearchers from Chongqing Jiaotong University develop a special glue to change desert ground into soil that people can grow plants in. The “sand glue” made of plant is used to help keep water, nutrients (营养) and air. And it has been used in different areas.

An Interview in Yulin(Li has planted more than 2,300 mu of forest.)

Q: Did your family support you when you decided to plant trees?

Li: Not really. My family was strongly against my idea. My son even brought me back home, but the next day I went there again.

Q: Did you have any difficulties?

Li: Yes. At that time, the living conditions in the mountains were really terrible, and I didn’t have any experience. Though I worked more than 10 hours every day, less than 10% of the trees could be alive.

Q: How did you solve the problem?

Li: I bought books and used what I learned to plant trees. I tried again and again. 19 years has passed, and more than 95% of the trees are alive now.

Q: It took you 19 years to plant trees. Any regrets?

Li: No. It’s my dream. And my biggest wish is that everyone plants a few trees every year.

The Past and the PresentNearly 30 years ago, the Kubuqi Desert, the seventh largest desert in China, was a barren (贫瘠的) land with no future. The local people called the Kubuqi Desert the “sea of death”.

Thanks to our government, chances came. The Kubuqi people have changed the desert into an oasis (绿洲). It has offered chances for the locals to get more money in different ways like selling farm products. They change the desert and the desert helps them. It’s a win-win situation.

2021·重庆·中考真题)In 1988, Wang Chengbang retired(退休)from the army. Instead of enjoying a relaxing life, he volunteered to save the soil from desertification(沙漠化)by planting trees in Korla, Xinjiang.

It is not an easy job. The high temperature in Korla makes it difficult for anyone to work day after day in the sunshine. Besides, water is a big problem. In fact, Wang Chengbang's work in the first few years failed as very few trees survived(存活).

But Wang Chengbang would not give up. "After trying many different ways, I have learned how to grow young trees in a better way, "said Wang Chengbang. He also worked out new ways to save water. With his hard work, more and more trees have survived. So far, he has planted more than 1.5 million trees. Those green trees prevent desertification, make the air cleaner and protect people from the hot sun. Now, Korla is a model city in environmental protection.

Wang Chengbang is also successful in fighting cancer(癌症). In 2005, he had cancer and was told that he had only six months to live. However, he continued taking care of his tree rather than lying on the hospital bed. "Working is the best medicine. Planting trees helps to fight cancer, "he often jokes.

Now at the age of 85, Wang Chengbang is still working.

2020·重庆·中考真题)How can I become a better person? This question has been in my head for long. As students, we spend most of our time studying. I know learning at school, of course, makes us better persons, but I always dream of doing more.

Last year, I got to know a group of autistic(患自闭症的)children. We called them "the Snails(蜗牛)". It was hard to communicate with them at first, because they wouldn't like to. After a two-week training, I became more skilled. I got closer to them day by day. To my surprise, I found that every one of "the Snails" had his or her own talent. And their colorful pictures on the wall attracted my special attention, though it was difficult to tell what they were trying to express.

Moved by their pictures, I decided to hold a charity (慈善) sale. We walked on the busy street, selling their creative pictures. We sold 60 pictures that day. People thought their pictures were full of imagination.

Back to the question about how to become a better person, I think I am lucky enough to get my own answer.

17Do "the Snails" have their own talents?

18How many pictures did they sell that day?

19What is the writer's answer to the question "how to become a better person"?

20Do you think that selling pictures on the busy street is a very good way to help "the Snails"? Why or why not?

"Why can't a disabled girl wear make-up? Every flower has the right to show its beauty!" Liu decided to cheer up and have a wonderful life.

In 2009, Liu got a job in a local beauty shop. She was paid a little but learned a lot.

In 2012, Liu opened a beauty shop but failed. Her mother begged(乞求) her to give up, but she kept on. She traveled around to learn at different training meetings ...

    Dr.Wang

    Hi, there!

I’m here to help with any of your problems, whether at school or at home.

    Sophia

    @ Dr. Wang

What should say to my little brother?

    My problem is terrible.

My mum gave us a new baby a couple of years ago. We were really happy then, but this lovely baby has grown up!

He seems to have too much energy, and never stops running or shouting. The door doesn’t help at all—he’ll be knocking at it for ages. I can’t study at home. I really can’t stand this, but what should I say to four-year-old boy? And my parents are around him all the time. They seem to forget everything about me. How I miss those sweet old days when we could just sit in the sofa!

    Can you help me out?

    Dr. Wang

    @ Sophia

That’s a common complaint. I know how awful it is when someone keeps knocking at the door, but doesn’t that mean the little one wants to stay with you? Just as you want to have your parents around, he needs your attention! If this doesn’t make you feel better, ask your parents for some help. Just have a talk with your parents. Ask them to calm our little brother down or take him out when you are doing your homework. And tell them that you also need their attention!

Family life might not always be as sweet as those old days. Sometimes we have to wait until what troubles us today becomes part of those sweet old days.

Since 2007, the dispatchers in the center have been drawing maps of the local areas.

“A dispatcher’s job is counted in seconds,” says Liang Ruimei, a dispatcher in the center. She has been working in the center since it started in 2007. “We must answer the phone in 3 seconds, get clear information about the patient in 60 seconds and dispatch(调度) emergency medical workers in 3 minutes at most. If we save one second, the patient may have a better chance to live.”

Although nowadays the center has electronic maps, the dispatchers still walk through the streets to draw maps by hand.

After many years’ hard work, the dispatchers keep every building and street of the city in mind. They even know whether or not a car can enter the gate of a building. Sometimes the caller can’t tell clearly where he is, but it doesn’t matter. As long as he describes the buildings around, the dispatcher can dispatch emergency medical workers to him.

2022·重庆八中二模)Kites were invented by the Chinese people over 2,000 years ago. In the process of social development, Chinese traditional culture was mixed with the kite craft (工艺), and finally formed the kite culture with unique (独特的) characteristics.

Uses of kites have changed several times in history. According to historical records, kites were first used for military (军事) purposes. In the mid-Tang Dynasty, in which the society was stable and peaceful, the use of kites gradually changed from military to entertainment (娱乐). With the development of paper-making technology, the material of kites changed from silk to paper.

In the Song Dynasty, kite-flying became a favorite outdoor activity. The Ming and Qing dynasties were the peak (顶峰) period of the Chinese kites. Literati (文人) at that time made kites by themselves, and sent them to their relatives and friends as gifts. In recent years, kite-flying has been regarded as a sport and entertainment activity.

China covers large areas. As a traditional culture and folk art, kites have formed unique styles of different areas during their development, among which the most famous one is Weifang kites in Shandong Province.

Weifang kites really surprise the world. They are strong in structure and beautiful in color and designing (设计) with the use of some special Chinese traditional skills. For example, the skills of making wood-block (木版的) New Year pictures and Chinese painting are put to good use. Besides, when the Weifang International Kite Festival begins, there are all kinds of kites in different shapes flying in the sky. It is also not surprising to see some cute cartoon characters like Peppa Pig flying in the sky. The sky becomes a sea of kites with different themes. For a long time, Weifang kites have been very famous all over the world.

The Olympic flame has been put out, marking the end of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. In the closing ceremony, International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach called the Games “truly exceptional”. “The Olympic spirit could only shine so brightly because the Chinese people set the stage in such an excellent way and in a safe way,” he said.

At Beijing 2022, a total of 2,877 players of 91 countries and regions (地区) competed for 109 gold medals. Through 17 days of excellent performances on the ice and snow, 17 Olympic records, including two world records, were broken.

As the first city to ever host both the Summer and Winter Olympics, Beijing provided thoughtful services to all the players. Beijing 2022 was the first international sport event to be held during the COVID-19 pandemic. The government took action to prevent imported cases (输入性病例) from spreading to the public in order to keep players safe. “With an infection rate (感染率) of 0.01, it was one of the safest places on the planet, if not the safest place on the planet, and this is a great achievement,” said Bach.

The popularity of ice and snow sports is growing around China. The country has achieved its goal to make 300 million people take part in winter sports. Winter sports facilities (设施) have even spread to the southern parts of China where winters are warmer.
