    三、阅读单选

Crying is often seen as a sign of weakness. Most people, especially men, will hold back their tears even when they’re feeling sad. This can lead to big problems: In 2019, about 5.8 percent of people in Spain reported feeling stressed. What’s worse, one in ten Spanish teenagers suffered from mental (精神的) illness.

The Spanish government wants to draw attention to this public health problem. A “crying room” recently opened in the center of its capital city, Madrid. Anyone can visit it at any time. On one of the walls there are some psychologists’ (心理学家) phone numbers. Visitors can call them to talk about their problems. If they don’t know what to say, they can just sit there and cry.

The government built the crying room to encourage people to cry and to ask for help when they are under stress. “Mental illness isn’t a taboo (禁忌),” Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez told his people on this year’s World Mental Health Day. “We must talk about it openly and act accordingly. You don’t have to cry in a crying room, of course. Your family and friends will always be there for you whenever you need a shoulder to cry on.

34Where can you find the crying room?

35Which of the following cannot solve your mental illness?

AAsk friends for help. BCry on the shoulders of family.

CJust sit there and cry. DHave a talk with psychologists.

My name is Susannah Butter. At just 23, I am one of the youngest journalists at the London Evening Standard (《伦敦旗帜晚报》)a popular newspaper in the United Kingdom. Today, I’m going to talk about what life of a journalist is like.

The morning is usually the busiest part of the day. That’s because our paper has to go to print before noon. I work on the features (专题报道) pages. They are generally finished a day before they go out.

I arrive at the office at 8 a. m. and help the editors prepare for the morning meeting. I go through all that morning’s papers, looking for anything that could be a feature idea. Then, all journalists work together to research any last-minute changes that have to be made before our paper goes to press (出版社).

At around 10 a. m., the editors meet with the journalists and designers to discuss ideas for the following day’s paper. After the morning meeting, I have the rest of the day to work on what I’ve been asked to do. If I’m writing something, I’ll focus on that. Sometimes, I’m sent out on interviews. Or I’ll organize future interviews and research future feature ideas. Usually, I can finish both pieces (报道) for the following day’s paper and do some planning.

I like digging out information that hasn’t been reported and presenting it in an attractive way. Every day, I think about questions such as: What pictures should I use? How will the headline make people read the piece? It’s great when you see someone enjoying a piece you have written. Journalism allows me to meet many interesting people. In one week, I might be working on an interview with a singer, a piece about a new coffee shop and an investigation (调查) into a murder. This variety is my favorite part of working as a journalist.

36We can conclude from the article that the London Evening Standard is a ________.

    Adaily newspaper Bweekly newspaper

    Cpopular magazine Dschool newspaper

37Journalists at the London Evening Standard are usually very busy in the morning because ________.

Athey have to research future ideas Bthe paper has to go to print before noon

Cthey have to organize lots of interviews Dthey have a long meeting in the morning

38The features pages of the London Evening Standard are generally finished ________.

Aon the day the paper goes to press Bone day before the paper goes to press

Cone week before the paper goes to press Dtwo hours before the paper goes to press

39What does Butter enjoy the most about her job?

AThinking about the headlines and pictures.

BGetting chances to interview famous singers.

CBeing able to deal with many different topics.

DSeeing people enjoying a piece she has written.

40Which of the following statements can we conclude from the article?

AThe morning meeting usually ends at half past eleven.

BButter is the youngest journalist at the London Evening Standard.

CAt the London Evening Standard, journalists decide what pictures to use.

DThere are two pieces in each features page in the London Evening Standard.

In today’s world, we are always surrounded by technology(科技). It is true that technology has made our lives easier. However, scientists are saying that we need to give ourselves a break—otherwise we are putting ourselves at risk(风险)of developing kinds of health problems. Over the summer, the days are longer and sunnier and you are free from school. With all this free time, why not put it to good use and do something that has nothing to do with technology?

To start with, you could learn a new skill. There are hundreds of possibilities: cooking, playing a musical instrument or mastering a new sport. Maybe you’ve always wanted to try out that recipe, but haven’t had time. Perhaps you’d like to learn how to knit(编织), so you can have a new sweater for the autumn. You could use your free time to learn something new, and perhaps it’ll lead to an exciting chance in the future.

If you just fancy relaxing, why not go to the beach? Take along your favorite book and relax on the sand, or go for a walk along the coastline. If you don’t live near a beach, you can go to your local park. Why not go for a picnic, or try learning something about the local wildlife?

Challenging yourself to a crossword or a Sudoku(数独)is also a great idea to start with. You could even get involved in the latest craze: coloring books! Coloring is surprisingly helpful to relieve your stress of modern life!

You might surprisingly find a hidden talent within you, and you might make new friends along the way. Next time you find yourself aimlessly channel-surfing, think about what else you could spend your time doing.

    41Technology helps humans live a ________ life.

    Acareful Bhealthy Cmeaningful Dcomfortable

42According to scientists, what will happen if we don’t give ourselves a break from technology?

APeople can make much more money.

BWe might not find a hidden talent within us.

CStudents will have more time to spend on study.

DWe will have to face all kinds of health problems.

43What is the good of coloring?

APeople can bring out the hidden talent.

BIt helps to relieve the stress of modern life.

CKids can learn something about the local wildlife.

DChildren can have a new colorful sweater for the autumn.

44What might happen if we follow the advice in this passage?

AFriends can find clear aims while channel-surfing.

BIt helps us to stay away from the modern machines.

CPeople will have more chances to taste the joy of life.

DStudents will become better at working out math problems.

45Which of the following can be a probable title for the passage?

ATechnology is everywhere BDifferent risks of technology

CRun away from technology DHealthy lifestyle in modern times
