    Researchers at Baylr University were curius abut whether there was a way t imprve student perfrmance . In particular, they wndered whether a technique called “targeted memry reactivatin(激活,重启)” (TMR) culd be useful fr studying. In TMR, certain signals reactivate memries frmed during the day while a persn is asleep. The researchers fcused n music.
    A few university students tk part in the experiment. They were asked t take a class n micrecnmics(微观经济学), which they wuld be tested n the fllwing day. During the lessn, all participants listened t three pieces f classical music. Then they spent the night in the sleep lab and while they were fast asleep, sunds were played in the backgrund. Fr half f the participants, the sund was white nise, but the ther half were played the three pieces they had listened t while studying. The next day they tk the test and the test scres shwed that the students wh had been expsed t the “study music” while sleeping perfrmed better n the test.
    There were a few reasns the research grup selected three classical music pieces as study music. Such music is much less distracting than music with lyrics (歌词). And the researchers als wanted t make sure that the music they played had bvius meldies (旋律), s that the brain culd mre easily frm cnnectins between the music and the study material. The three pieces they chse fit the bill perfectly.
    Unfrtunately, music culd imprve test scres the next day, but after a few mnths the music listeners were back t the same level as the students wh slept with white nise in the backgrund. Besides, the effect seemed t be mre nticeable fr female students than it was fr men.
