The forests in eastern Zimbabwe supply the country with wood and most of its fresh fruit. But the removal of large numbers of trees and use of fire to clear land have caused a lot of damage to the area. Officials say Zimbabwe lost more than 1.5 million hectares of forest last year. This is mostly because of local people cutting the trees for firewood or setting fires in forested areas to make hunting easier.
But now a non- profit group, called Environment Africa, is trying to improve the situation, Environment Africa is teaching farmers to raise bees. The group is working in the Mutasa district, near the country's border with Mozambique. And it has already helped about 1, 500 farmers.
Beniamin Chatambura is one such farmer. He has set up about 250 beehives(蜂箱) near his home. Chatambura sells the honey the bees produce and uses the money to feed his family. He likes having bees on his land because he insects help him and the forest. “The trees provide us with flowers”, he says. “That is the food for the bees to produce the honey. If there were a way, I would like more land to plant more different types of trees.”
Lawrence Nyagwande is with Environment Africa. He says most of the farmers are earning as much as S1, 000 a month by selling honey. The average government worker in Zimbabwe earns just about $500 a month.
Nyagwande says, “Beekeeping is helping improve the country's forests. Now if you look around, the forest in Mutasa is now improving because people are also working together with the nearby timber(木材) industries to fight the forest fires.”
This project has caught the attention of the government. Violet Makoto represents Zimbabwe’s Forestry Commission, a government agency that works to protect forests. She says the commission hopes local people will take up beekeeping and end the use of fire to clear land.
25. What does Environment Africa do to save the forests?
A. Assist local farmers to sell honey at a high price.
B. Help farmers make a living through beekeeping
C. Plant more different types of trees with farmers
D. Join the farmers in fighting fires in the forests.
26. What can we learn from Paragraph 4?
A. Trees are important to bees. B. Beekeepers’ income is large.
C. Timber Industries are harmful D. Forest loss is becoming worse.
27. What is the governments attitude towards the project?
A. Passive B. Doubtful . C. Ambiguous D. Supportive

Halloween is my favorite holiday because you don’t have to buy anyone presents, but you get to dress up as whoever you want to be, all while getting free candy. Unfortunately, as I get older, I notice fewer trick-or-treaters at my door. Some Halloween traditions, especially the tradition of trick-or-treating, seem to be dying out.
I remember starting high school and still wanting to go trick-or-treating, but I wasn’t supposed to. But now kids who are still young enough to go trick-or-treating seem like they don’t even want to go. They either doubt they’re cool to get dressed up, their parents are too worried about poisoned candy or bad people, or they’re simply too lazy. There are simple solutions to the first two. There are always cool clothes, and parents can easily accompany their children to provide safety, as well as to inspect the candy that's handed out. I just wish people would get out and trick-or-treat like they used to, even though that means having parents and teenagers knocking at my door.
Money could be another potential reason for reducing the desire to go trick-or-treating. I understand that the rule is that you have to dress up to get candy and some clothes can be expensive. But there are many inexpensive ideas. All you need is makeup(化妆品) and brown or
green clothes to be a goddess or an animal. At the dollar store, there are plastic swords and suits of armor if you want to be a knight (骑士) .You can also use makeup to be basically anything: a vampire(吸血鬼), a skeleton, Frankenstein, a werewolf, a zombie.
Watching Halloween movies and passing out candy on my doorstep is fine enough, but I do wish more kids would knock on my door.
28. What makes the author disappointed?
A. Halloween seems to be dying out. B. Trick-or-treating is becoming unpopular.
C. Parents consider candy to be unhealthy for kids.
D. High school students are not allowed to play trick or-treating.
29. Which of the following is one of the solutions according to Paragraph 2?
A. Choosing inexpensive clothes. B. Educating teenagers about safety.
C. Just knocking on the author’s door. D. Playing trick-or-treating together with adults.
30. What's the main idea of Paragraph 3?
A. Money shouldn't be an excuse. B. Getting suitable clothes is a big challenge.
C. You can dress up as whoever you want to be.
D. Few people have the desire to go trick or treating
31. Which of the following statements would the author agree with?
A. We ought to give up some Halloween traditions.
B. Kids should be encouraged to play trick or treating.
C. Makeup is the most important part of Halloween.
D. Parents don't have to worry about children s safety.
D
Although there is growing research into the negative effect that screen-based technology can have on wellbeing, the trick technology companies have somehow played is that they have made it our problem, not theirs. For example, it is ridiculous that we blame young people for being addicted to their apps when the simple truth is that they are designed to be addictive. In the world of apps, addiction is what brings in money.
Whether you run a video service, a news site or a mobile game, certainly your product will have an effect on the mental health of your users—negative or positive. But the sad reality is that if you are not optimizing that effect, it tends to be the former. The reason why so much technology doesn't support wellbeing is that wellbeing was not a consideration in its design.
An important area for improvement is notifications(通知). Notifications are a great example of a feature that's great for the product but bad for the user, since not only do they make us less focused but they also cause anxiety about the things we've missed, a symptom of addiction. There is very little good about an inbox icon(收件箱图标) showing a bright red circle with a high number on it. Notifications can be made friendlier by not showing them in real time. One idea is to show the level of unread messages through the weight of the app name. So if you had lots of emails, your Mail app would be very bold(粗体的), but if you didn't have any, it would be lighter. In this way, less attention will be required.
Though it sounds challenging, finally money will talk. It is possible to make changes to products that don't damage their primary income models. Changes could be made that help us feel be better about ourselves. When a company becomes more wellbeing-positive, they add a competitive difference and become more attractive.
32. What can be concluded from the first paragraph?
A. Young people can be tricked easily. B. Screen-based technology is negative.
C. The addiction problem can't be solved.
D. Tech companies are to blame for addiction.
33. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “optimizing”?
A. explaining B. improving C. discovering D. admitting
34. How can the apps reduce the negative effects according to the author?
A. By removing the inbox icon. B. By limiting people’s screen time.
C. By making notifications less eye-catching.
D. By informing the users of messages in no time.
35. What does the author think of wellbeing-positive companies?
A. They will enjoy the benefit finally. B. They will have an uncertain future.
C. They will do good to the minority. D. They will change income models
第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两处为多于选项。
Studies have shown that drinking water on empty stomach can help increase metabolic (新陈代谢的) rate up by 30%. 36 .You know what that means right?—Quicker weight loss! 37 ,then you will be able to digest food faster and maintain a slim figure despite eating those extra calories. However, this doesn’t guarantee you to bite down on all that junk food. Furthermore, you will need to add in around four liters of water into your daily routine for best results.
Constipation(便秘) is just one of the most painful conditions which also results in remains of poisonous substances inside the body. But do you know that one of the other benefits of drinking water is that it helps to clear out your bowels? The colon (结肠),which is in part responsible for bowel movements, requires water to function properly. 38 .
Drinking water on empty stomach especially if it’s hot, can improve the health of our nervous system. Early morning, the stomach is most receptive. At this moment, if you love coffee, which makes central nervous system excited, your nervous system will be affected from the get-go. 39 .It can properly supply water to your nervous system, which will help it function properly.
Again, if you are likely to suffer migraine(偏头疼),then water can help fight it off. 40 .So just by increasing your water intake, you are basically preventing your chances from suffering another headache attack. This is especially so when you are drinking water on empty stomach, as your body didn’t get any liquid when you were asleep.
A. Just have a glass of warm water instead
B. If your metabolic rate is higher
C. When your skin is properly containing combined water inside
D. So just drink down a glass of water and sit on your toilet for a clean colon
E. Your doctor might have already told you that headaches happen due to lack of water

G. Besides, we all know that having a healthy appetite is good for overall health
