Day 1: Finally, we are on our way! We spent so many days getting ready — it felt like we would never actually leave. But now we are out at sea. Soon we will arrive in the Canary Islands!
Day 12: The sailors are becoming more and more excited. The sea feels huge out here. The waves (浪) are bigger than any I have seen, and we have not seen many seabirds.
Day 25: I have been at sea now for more than three weeks, and things are starting to feel different. We do our jobs around the ship, but some of us are starting to worry. The sun is hot and beats down on our heads. I heard that there is not as much food and water in the ship as we had thought. I wonder about the other two ships sailing with us. Do they have more food and water than us? Are the sailors on the ships worried, too?
Day 38:I am wondering if this is going to be my last voyage. The food is running out and there is very little water. All around us, the sea stretches (延伸) forever, with no sign of land. I watch the captain(船长), waiting for him to give us some words to make us feel better. He says nothing. I have seen him coming out at night, looking at the stars and using that strange tool of his. He writes a lot of notes. Is he counting our food?
Day 46: The food and water are almost gone. I think about my mother and my sisters back in Spain. How will they manage if I die out here on the open sea?

Machines make loud noises. Needles (针) are pushed into your arms. Bright lights make your eyes tired.
These things are common in a hospital room. But world-famous experts at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, are changing that. Doctors at the Children's Cancer Hospital believe that a peaceful environment speeds up a young patient's healing process (治愈过程).
“Everything is designed to be as comfortable as possible,”said Kevin Long, director of pediatric operations (儿科手术).
LED lights allow kids to change the color of their room to fit the way they're feeling. And with a series of arts programs and activities for young patients, the team at MD Anderson is working to raise the quality of life for children fighting cancer.
“When you're going through a difficult situation like cancer, art helps you relax,”said Kasey Marsh, who organizes art classes for the Children's Art Project. The program sells products with artwork created by young patients.
Kids create the artwork while waiting to see their doctors, Marsh explained.“Sometimes, patients have to wait 10 minutes, sometimes longer,”she said.“But they don't mind because the children who love art will run straight to the art table.”
Another arts program offered by the hospital is the Arts in Medicine Program. The program includes visual arts, theater, dance, and music.“Many musicians do bedside performances (表演),” said Arts in Medicine Program manager Zachary Gresham.“Patients choose any song they want — from‘Let It Go' to Bach.”
Studies show that listening to music is good for a patient's health, too. Gresham believes that weaving the arts into medical treatment is necessary.“There's just something magical about art,”he said.
Long agreed.“We try to make it so that patients don't miss anything from their normal childhood.”Whether it's the use of high technology in a patient's room or providing chances of creativity, MD
Anderson is on the way for better cancer care.
24. What is the purpose of the first paragraph?
A. To tell us some things common in a hospital.
B. To introduce the topic of the text.
C. To express the main idea of the text.
D. To list some things for readers to think about.
25. What does the MD Anderson team do to help young patients?
A. Raise money to cover their treatments.
B. Create a comfortable environment for them.
C. Shorten the time they wait to see their doctors.
D. Give them chances to play with healthy children.
26. What can patients do with the Arts in Medicine Program?
A. Do magic. B. Design art tables.
C. Meet some musicians. D. Paint artworks and sell them.
27. What does the underlined word“weaving”in Paragraph 8 probably mean?
A. Producing. B. Changing. C. Including. D. Considering.

You may not consider yourself the patient type. Maybe your first-grade teacher pointed this out when you were pulling the door open before the bell even sounded. As a grown-up, maybe you press the “close door” button in the lift many times. You're not alone. Impatience has become a sign of a troubled society.
The time we save to get to our destination (目的地) faster is not worth the price we pay for our health. As we all know, in traffic making rash (草率的) decisions can have serious results. In addition, there is a close relation between impatient people and many health problems.
A 2011study, for example, suggests impatience may even be making us fat. If you are willing to give up present satisfaction for future benefits (利益), it shows you are the patient type. If, however, you want your satisfaction right now without considering future benefits, it's a sign of impatience. You don't need to do a lot of research to connect impatience with high blood pressure (压力) and even heart disease. Besides, being impatient could cause anxiety (焦虑). And if you're always anxious, your sleep could be affected, too.
So learning to be patient is important. The good news is that we can all learn to be patient. The first thing to do is to recognize that you have a problem. There are all kinds of everyday situations that test patience. Once you've found that cause, though, it will be a lot easier to break the bad habit. Most importantly, once we understand that what makes us impatient isn't within our control, we can change the way we understand that situation. If you've made it, congratulations. You're already on your way.
28. Why is traffic mentioned in Paragraph 2?
A. To explain the cause of impatience.
B. To prove the dangers of impatience.
C. To show the terrible traffic situation.
D. To show the importance of traffic rules.
29. The 2011 study mainly shows the relation between _____.
A. anxiety and sleep quality
B. impatience and health problems
C. present satisfaction and future benefits
D. childhood experiences and grown-up behaviors
30. What is the most important thing for people to fight impatience?
A. Learning to control their impatience.
B. Finding out what makes them impatient.
C. Testing their patience in everyday situations.
D. Seeing the situation that causes impatience differently.
31. What is the best title for the text?
A. Be more patient B. What causes impatience?
C. Patient people laugh best D. Why are people impatient?
D
The sunset in Venice, Italy, is beautiful to watch. The Grand Canal, the city’s watery superhighway, shimmers (发光) in a color of orange and yellow as it reflects the sky. Couples hold hands while walking along the church’s square, enjoying postcard views across the sparkling lake, or shallow body of water, in the middle of the city.
More than 12 million tourists from around the world come to Venice each year to experience such magic. Yet Venice, Italy’s floating city, is sinking slowly into the sea. Many people have left Venice since the problem reached a serious stage.
For centuries, flooding has been a problem for those living in Venice, a city built on a series of islands located on the Adriatic Sea. In recent years, however, the problem has worsened. The high water used to flood Venice only twice a year, in the fall and winter. Now, because of several factors, flooding can happen at any time.
Scientists say Venice sank because engineers pumped water from deep under the city for use in factories on Italy’s mainland. The sandy soil under Venice could no longer support the city’s weight. In addition, Venice began feeling the effects of global warming. The increase in Earth’s temperatures is slowly melting glaciers (融化冰川) and polar ice caps, raising sea levels around the world. That has caused many coastal areas, including Venice, to flood.
The flooding is causing major problems. When the water begins to rise, a siren (警报) sounds to warn Venetians of the coming flood. One hundred city workers jump into action, fixing10miles of wooden walkways in low areas. Businessmen hurry to place goods on higher shelves. Hotel operators roll up valuable carpets before they are wet. Cafe owners move tables and chairs to higher floors before the flood rolls in.
The high water often causes the cancellation(取消) of school and events. The flooding also keeps people from getting to their jobs, and drives tourists indoors — or away.
32. The author wrote the first paragraph in order to prove ______.
A. the view of Venice has been printed on postcards
B. couples like to walk along the square in Venice
C. Venice is a very beautiful city on water
D. there is a watery superhighway in Venice
33. What problem does Venice mainly face now?
A. The city is short of fresh water.
B. People are no longer willing to live there.
C. Too many tourists come to Venice every year.
D. The city is slowly going under the sea.
34. According to the passage, what has mainly caused Venice to sink?
A. That too much underground water was pumped out.
B. That the soil of the city is sandy.
C. That the global warming causes the rise of sea levels.
D. That the buildings of factories increase the city’s weight.
35. The purpose of writing this passage is to______.
A. attract more people to travel in Venice
B. give advice on how to protect Venice
C. expect people to keep Venice floating
D. call on Venetians to use less water

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Whistling (吹口哨) can be a fun pass time. 36 But others consider it a serious business, even entering whistling competitions. If you don't know how to whistle, getting the skill for it may seem difficult. With just a little patience, however, you can easily learn to whistle a note or two.
Start by finding a mirror. First, place your lips (嘴唇) to form a small“O.” 37 And then blow air out through the circle you created with your mouth.
38 You'll probably have to spend some time adjusting (调整) your lips and tongue until you are able to produce a whistled note. You may need to put your lips closer together and change the position of your tongue. While you learn, avoid blowing too hard. 39
Once you've produced a beautiful note, move on, adjusting your lips, tongue, and the force with which you blow to produce different sounds.
When you first learn to whistle, you may hear sounds like those heard when air escapes a tire (轮胎). When you hear such sounds, don't feel sad. 40 . Keep trying and soon you will develop the right mouth positioning for producing strong, beautiful notes.
A. Then stick your tongue out.
B. Small amounts of air often work best.
C. This means you are heading in the right direction.
D. Some people whistle a song to help pass the time.
E. You may need someone to teach you how to whistle.
F. Next, position your tongue behind your lower teeth.
G. Don't expect to learn to whistle perfectly on the first try.

参考范文
Nowadays, TV plays an important part in our daily life. It is the most common source of getting information from the world. But there are both advantages and disadvantages of watching TV.
On the one hand, it’s quicker and more convenient for us to know what is going on all over the world. We can also see important events live. TV presents lots of scientific programs and nature movies as well, thus we can increase our knowledge about the world. On the other hand, watching TV too long is harmful to our eyesight and is a waste of our time for study. Besides, on TV there are also some movies, which present violence and should not be suitable for children to watch.
So I think we should take a right attitude towards students’ watching TV.

M: Well, he found a new job last month, but he forgot to tell us about it.
W: You’re joking! How can anyone do that?
(Text 10)
W: Well, my name is Cindy and recently, I’ve finished a tour which is not the type of thing I’d usually go for. But because we won it, we didn’t have to pay anything. We didn’t get off to a good start, though, because the bus from the airport to the hotel was awful. It took ages. The trip was all-inclusive, so all drinks and meals were included in the price. The drinks were fantastic! The hotel food was either tasteless or too hot, but the waiters were all friendly and knowledgeable at least. John decided he wanted to take a trip to a museum, so I went along. Actually, I didn’t really like it. It was pretty disappointing. I surely preferred being near the ocean. The beach was amazing and I went there several times. In the second week, John went off on his own into the mountains, but I stayed in the hotel. I once tried going on an elephant ride, but it was terrible. Elephants frightened me, so I gave up. The two weeks went by so quickly. We got back last night and, all in all, I think it was a great trip, really relaxing. I’m so glad we entered the competition.
