Known for its complicated, seemingly wavelike sandstone walls and the rays of sunlight that shine into them, Arizona's Antelope Canyon(羚羊峡谷)is an everlasting attraction for tourists. It's a slot canyon, meaning it formed from water carving it out over millions of years. It sits about 3,700 feet above sea level and takes its name from the antelope that once lived in it.
The canyon forms part of Lake Powell Navajo Tribal Park in the Navajo Nation. The Navajo Nation limits visits to either the Upper or Lower Antelope Canyon to two hours and requires all visitors to be led by authorized guides. If you're planning a trip and need help deciding which area to visit, keep these recommendations in mind.
When: Tours are available twice a day during the week year-round, though exact times vary by season; tours are not available on weekends or major holidays.
Cost: Tour companies' fees vary, but tickets, including entrance to the park, generally start at around $ 60 for 90-minute tours of Upper Antelope Canyon. Tours of Lower Antelope Canyon tend to be around an hour and generally cost around $ 40 per adult and $ 20 for children.
Must-know tip: Most of Arizona does not follow daylight saving time, though the Navajo Nation, where Antelope Canyon is located, does. Check with your tour operator to confirm the precise time of your tour.
Antelope Canyon hosts tons of visitors and, in order to protect the canyon walls from damage, no bags of any kind are permitted in either the Upper or Lower section. Also keep in mind that while most tour companies welcome small children, not all of them will.
    21. What makes Antelope Canyon attractive?
    A. Its remarkable height. B. The origin of its name.
    C. Its unique natural feature. D. The process of its formation.
    22. How much may a couple pay for a one-hour tour in Lower Antelope Canyon?
    A. $ 60. B. $ 80. C. $ 100. D. $ 120.
    23. What must be kept in mind about the Antelope Canyon tour?
    A. The age limit for kids. B. The definite tour time.
    C. Carrying a small backpack. D. Booking tickets in tour agencies.

Jessica Burk's home is full of opportunities. Packaged slime (黏土)in a variety of colors and pleasant smells lines one wall of the living room, and in the designated "slime room" workspace in the back, bottles of fragrance oil are arranged in rows, next to glue and an industrial-size kitchen mixer.
But it's not the amount of slime in Burk's house that shocks people, she said. It is that her 15-year-old daughter, Samantha Zumwalt, is in charge of their enterprise. The mother-daughter team runs Samantha Slime Shop at home and the demand for their products helps them earn six figures a year. Samantha's slime, offered in a rainbow of colors and a range of texture(质地), is in high demand. Since she started her business, she's made more than 24, 000 sales on Etsy. The customers are generally young-between 9 and 12 years old, Burks said, though some adults and teens buy slime, too. Some customers buy Samantha's slime because they say playing with it is calming. Others want it because it gives them something to do with their hands.
Last year, Nichole Jacklyne, a social media blogger, who reviews slime and provides DIY lessons for hundreds of thousands of followers, reviewed Samantha's product in a video. After Jacklyne's video, others poured into Samantha's shop, Burks said.
However, Samantha's mom was initially resistant to the girl's slime ambitions. It took months for Samantha to convince her mom to buy key materials to make slime. "I told her no for months," Burks said. Finally, Burks gave in. She had been laid off from her job as an accountant, and the two dove into the slime business. Now, Burks is proud of Samantha for running the business so well. "I hope she can meet all of her business goals-whether that's still running the slime enterprise, or buying another business out, or starting a new business, " she said, "Whatever her dreams are is where I want her to be."
    24. Why does the author specifically describe Jessica Burks' home in paragraph 1?
    A. To stress the amount of slime there. B. To present how special her home is.
    C. To introduce Samantha's slime business. D. To show the business opportunities of slime.
    25. What do we know about Samantha's slime from the text?
    A. It only wins popularity with kids.
    B. All adults buy it just for recreation.
    C. Social media contributes greatly to its sales.
    D. It helps Samantha get more followers on the Internet.
    26. How does Jessica Burks' attitude to Samantha's slime business change?
    A. From worried to favorable. B. From doubtful to objective.
    C. From negative to cautious. D. From disapproving to supportive.
    27. What is the passage mainly about?
    A. Samantha's slime business is a success. B. Samantha promotes her slime online.
    C. Playing with slime puts people at ease. D. Jessica Burks quits to run her slime business.
    C
In a new study, researchers analyzed information from more than 18,000 people who provided blood samples to test whether exercises play a role in balancing risks of obesity. Participants reported whether they exercised regularly, and if so, what type of exercises they typically did. The researchers then scanned participants' blood, looking for genes that are tied to an increased risk of obesity. Next, the researchers examined whether certain exercises seemed to balance this risk.
Overall, people who reported doing any type of regular exercises tended to have a lower BMI(体重指数)than those who didn't. This was true even though people who were genetically easy to become overweight. But one exercise stood out as the one with the strongest anti-obesity effect: jogging. Participants with obesity genes who jogged tended to have a lower BMI than people with similar genetic risk who did not jog.
But for those who loathe jogging, don't fear. Five other types of exercises were also tied to a lower BMI among individuals at risk for obesity. These included mountain climbing, balloon dancing and walking. The benefits of these exercises were the biggest among those with the greatest genetic risk of obesity.
Interestingly, several other types of exercises failed to counteract the genetic risk of obesity. These included cycling, stretching exercises and swimming. The findings don't mean that these latter exercises can't help with weight control. It's just that they didn't seem to counteract the genetic tendency to gain weight.
There could be several reasons for this. The researchers noted that, for the average Joe or Jane, cycling and stretching exercises tend to require less energy than the exercises that were tied to a lower obesity risk. In addition, exercising in water, as happens with swimming, may increase appetite.
    28. What does the underlined word "loathe" in the third paragraph mean?
    A. Dislike. B. Display. C. Disturb. D. Discourage.
    29. Which exercise has the least effect on balancing obesity genes?
    A. Mountain climbing. B. Ballroom dancing.
    C. Running slowly. D. Riding a bicycle.
    30. What does the author indicate in the last paragraph?
    A. Swimming doesn't help one lose weight. B. Diving may make a person eat more food.
    C. Average people put less energy into exercises. D. Stretching exercises will become popular.
    31. Which of the following is the best title?
    A. Jogging Less Leads to Genetic Obesity
    B. Regular Exercises Tend to Lower BMI
    C. Whether Exercises Balance Risks of Obesity Genes
    D. Genes Are Very important for People's Weight Control
    D
Many parents worry that showing negative emotions in front of their children will cause them to suffer. For example, children may end up thinking it's their fault or simply "catch" the emotion. Indeed, this worry has a sound basis-the phenomenon of "emotional contagion"(情绪感染)is real, and one recent study found that parents can transfer their fear of going to the dentist, for example, to their children.
On the other hand, there is the natural idea that we should "be real" with our children, and that they will benefit from watching a parent who struggles and eventually deals with their negative emotions like any other human beings.
They are three concepts to consider when it comes to emotional display in front of children: suppression(抑制), "uncontained" expression, and talking about emotions. Suppression of emotion is that you hide the outward signs of an emotion. Unfortunately, it doesn't work very well-the act of suppressing your emotion actually increases your blood pressure. The recent research has also found that when parents feel negative emotions and keep them from their children, they experience lower relationship quality and decreased responsiveness to their children's needs.
On the other hand, "unconditional" expression of anger and sadness by the parent is also not salutary for the child. Uncontained expression means high intensity emotion, with no attempts to regulate or take ownership of it. Shouting, smashing(打碎)things and blaming someone else for "making you angry" are all examples of this.
So, what is the middle ground? That would be talking about emotion, taking ownership of it and showing your child that you are trying to deal with it. Classic research found that six-year-old kids had better emotional understanding and perspective-taking skills if their mothers had talked to them about their emotions at the age of three. In fact, the more the mothers had talked, the better the outcome would be.
So next time you feel sad, angry or frustrated and your child is watching you expressing emotion, do explain what's going on in terms they can understand.
    32. Why does the author use the example of going to the dentist?
    A. To explain parents' common fear.
    B. To show children may catch parents' emotions.
    C. To indicate parents always transfer negative emotions to their kids.
    D. To present the consequences of transferring negative emotions.
    33. What will be the consequence if a mother suppresses her emotions?
    A. She will not make her kids feel stressed.
    B. She can hide her emotions from her kids.
    C. She will often shout at her kids for no reasons.
    D. She can't respond effectively to her kids' needs.
    34. What does the underlined word "salutary" in paragraph 4 probably mean?
    A. enough. B. beneficial. C. necessary. D. harmful.
    35. What is the author's intention of writing this text?
    A. To encourage parents to "be real" with their children.
    B. To call on parents to develop a positive attitude to life.
    C. To inform parents of the consequences of negative emotions.
    D. To recommend parents to talk about negative emotions with children.
    第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
    根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。选项中有两项为多余选项。
There are many kinds of book clubs where members discuss a different book every month. What about dinner clubs, where people get together once a month or four times a year to make and eat dinner? In the dinner club that I joined, the hostess of the dinner club would prepare a big dinner first. 36 This was the beginning of our dinner club.
There are two variations of a dinner club. One has a group of people who try a different restaurant once a month. 37 When they all meet, they order and share different dishes. This is a great idea, especially if you live in a big city where there are hundreds of different restaurants.
38 One way is to have the hostess for the month decide on a type of food. The hostess is responsible for cooking the entrees. The other members make different courses at home, like salad and dessert, and bring them to the dinner club. For an even more exciting and interactive type of dinner clubs, the entire group comes together in the hostess' kitchen. 39 In this way the members of the group not only learn about different types of food, but also different methods of cooking.
The great thing about a dinner club is that it serves in many different ways. You can make the dinner club even more special one month by inviting partners. 40 A stay-at-home mother can get a couple of other stay-at-home mothers together and start a children's lunch club. If you have a group of friends that love to get together and experiment with different types of food, the possibilities are endless!
    A. They prepare the entire meal in a group effort.
    B. Usually one member decides on the restaurant.
    C. Then the members would begin discussing the food.
    D. They are like-minded people with similar education level.
    E. The second kind of dinner clubs has many different forms.
    F. It offers regular well-organized social events in selected places.
    G. Couples can get together for some food and great conversations.

    阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使其构成一篇完整的短文。
A boulder(巨石), as big as a house. That's how the guidebook described Giant Rock. Dad said it arrived here millions of years ago. I was finally going to see it, in snowshoes, with my two older cousins, my dad, and my uncle Don. I'd been snowshoeing before, and I liked the adventure of hiking through deep snow.
At the parking area, after putting on our snowshoes, we studied the map. Due to the geographical location, electrical devices are inaccessible here. The map is our only guide. "We start here, " Dad said, "on the red trail(小路).Then we turn left onto the purple road. That's where Giant Rock is." "Remember to stick together and don't wander off, guys," Uncle Don said.
The trail ran uphill alongside a stone wall. It was easy to follow because red markers were nailed to the trees and the snow had been packed down by other hikers. At the top of the hill, we turned onto the purple trail. We settled into a pattern, with Dad and everyone else in front and me in the back, crunching(嘎吱嘎吱地踩)through the snow. I saw lots of animal tracks-mostly deer, squirrel, and rabbit prints. As the trail wound down, my cousin Andrew said what I'd been thinking: "Will we ever reach Giant Rock?" My cousin Aiden smiled and turned to me, "Luke, do you think your dad invented this idea just to get us away from the TV for a while?" I laughed. "You never know."
Finally, we climbed a hill and saw the massive boulder sitting alone in the forest. It really is as big as a house! My cousins and I high-fived each other and jogged until we stood at the base, breathless. Standing in the boulder's broad shadow, I noticed the sun had sunk lower.
"Let's head back," Dad said after a few minutes. "There will be several crossroads on the way back. Guys, keep up with the team." Soon we were crunch-crunch-crunching our way home. I was a little behind the group when we approached a crossroads. And I noticed a set of animal tracks I didn't recognize, so I followed them for a closer look.
