    课题

    Lesson 1 - Vocabulary and Reading

    教学目标

    - Ss reflect the meaning and purpose of reading.

    - Ss will read to learn.

    - Ss use their learning authentically.

    教学重点

    - Aware the purpose of reading.

    - Focus on problems.

    - Use in real life.

    教学难点

    - Spot problem.

    - Apply learning authentically.

    教学过程

    1. Warm up (3-5 mins) (PPT 4)
    1. Discuss about “Why do people read?”

    - Allow Ss to express their thought.

    - Show T’s answer on the PPT 4. T can add more ideas based on Ss’ answer.

    - Discuss each item, and find examples.

    1. Spot our problem while reading. Discuss with Ss, and add if Ss share good reasons.
      Sometimes, we feel hard to read. What’s the reason?

    - Hard to remember new things.
    - Remember, then forget

    1. Sometimes, we feel easy to read.What’s the reason?
      - It’s interesting.

    - It’s fun.

    - We are relax when we read it.
    - We are familiar with the topic.
    - We can remember because it makes big surprise.

    - We can remember because we have strong feeling.

    ...

    1. We read to learn, which means, we need to remember the information. We can get ideas from what we discussed. How can we make it easier for us to remember?
    2.  How does human’s brain work?

    Our brain is amazing. It can store our memory in different areas. When we learn new things, our brain stores the information in a short-term memory area. In this area, our brain stores the information for a short time. If we don’t use these information, it will be removed in a extremely short period, maybe in a few minutes or a day. If we use the new information more, the brain would treat it as important information, and will move it to a deeper part of the brain, and we can call it a long-term memory area. Once the information stored into the long-term memory area, we say we remember it.
    - So, we can see experts said that the Golden Rule of remembering new information is “repeat”.

    - And experts also find some other way to help to improve the process. In our previous discussion, Ss went through some of them. We can keep reading to find out more.

    - So, not only Ss, all of the people in the world face the same problem: How can we improve our memory. Or, how can the process get easier?

    1. We discussed that we can read to learn. Today’s lesson will give us some suggestion.

     

    1.  Read to learn (10-15 mins)
    1. Before reading: In this article, we can see three Ss share their experience. Ss read silently. While reading, please find answer to these questions:
      - Who shares the idea?

    - What is the presenter need to remember?

    - What’s the key to this method?

    - Reflect and think of how to apply to your learning process.

     

    1. While reading:  

    - T can prepare a table on the blackboard. Or use PPT 8-10.

    - Discuss every paragraph in detail on all above questions.

    How to apply?

    Discuss how can we apply to our learning experience.

     

     

    1. After reading:

    Let’s apply very useful methods to our vocab learning. We will apply all these methods together.
    - A picture is worth a thousand words. Picture is away the most efficient way. People can get much information from a photo than words.

    - Understanding. With out understanding, it’s meaningless to remember.

    - Fun. The more interesting, or the more estranged,  the easier to remember.

    - Organized.

    Memory expert says, we need to organize things well, then, we can find it when we have a way to search. Just like a table, we put our things in different drawers, we put a label on the drawer, when we search, we can have direction.

    We are going to Harry potter’s Magic School to learn new words in this lesson. We have a task.

    1. We lose(we lost something, means some is gone. ) our memory (Memory is information we keep in our brain). We want to go to the Memory library to look for help. (PPT 12)
    2. In the memory library: ( PPT 13) There’s a stairs at the corner(look at the picture, and teacher show more example about “corner” in the classroom). In order to get our memory back, the secret is hidden in a book under the 100th step (just count the steps in the image together) of the stair. We have the count when we climb up. When we get to the 100th step. We found a book called “Improve Memory” ( this book will help us to get our memory better).
    3. PPT 14. when we open the book, we will see a letter. It says “Memory back method” (we want to have our memory, this is what we need. We need a method, we need a way, we need help to get our memory back. How exciting!) It’s also a list, (a list shows key information in point form ) it mentions (says, shows)that, lose memory is a big trouble(a big problem. It’s a bit difficult to get solved).
    4. PPT 15, but, don’t worry. This method can help. But it sounds silly. (if you do it this way, you feel embarrassed. Maybe others will make fun of you. )  We have to have our memory. We don’t mind. The most silliest this is that we have to explain the water cycle.(Ask a student to answer what is the water cycle). 

     

    Tada... our memory’s back.  It’s worth to have a try.

     

    The Memory Game is done here. We need to have a review. T doesn’t show the PPT. And just go through the whole process again with students:

     

    - Why do we go to the library?   - We lose memory

    - What is the name of the library?   - memory library

    - Where can we find a stares?      - at a corner

    -  What should we do then?      - find the 100th step

    - What will we find there?       - a book

    - What’s the name?            - improve memory

    -  In the book, we find a letter.What’s the title?  - Memory back method.

    - What does the method look like?    - Like a list.

    - What did it say?            - it’s a big trouble

    - We use another word instead of “say, show”   - mention

    - Can we solve the problem?   - Yes. 

    - How?                   - do Silly thing

    - What is that silly thing?     - explain “water cycle”.

    - It is silly.  Will you do that again?  - If I lose memory, it’s worth to have a try.

     

    Can you base on the photo to go over the memory game with your group again?

            We discussed about the purpose of reading.

            We talked about how our brains work to remember information.

            We review problems we faced while learning.
