When Sydney Raley headed into her weekend shift on Saturday, December 18, she likely expected to do more of the same: Stand at the drive-through window, take orders over the headset, and hand each customer their meal with a smile.
In fact, that’s exactly how it started. Sydney Raley has been working at McDonald’s for about seven months and so far, it’s been her typical after-school job. The day had been mostly normal—making coffee, making drinks, and going into the lunch rush.
But a few hours into her, shift, things took a dramatic turn. After handing a customer some of their food, Sydney let them know that more would be coming as soon as it was ready. But just seconds later, she noticed a terrible look of panic spread across the woman’s face. Then came the coughing. She was coughing like crazy and was speechless. Her daughter was in the passenger seat and looked extremely confused and frightened.
Sydney immediately knew she was choking. The first aid training Sydney received more than four years ago hit her. Most 15-year-olds might panic at the sight of this. But not Sydney. Instead, the teen remained calm and quickly shouted to her manager to dial 911. Then, she came to the rescue.
The teen pushed the driver’s side door forcefully open and got the choking woman to her feet. Then she dug down deep into her memory bank to recall everything she learned. All that training of how to use the Heimlich maneuver (海姆利克氏急救法) immediately kicked in. Still, she had never actually had to use the life-saving technique before, and after a few tries, it wasn’t quite working. She shouted to a man for assistance. The man heard Sydney’s cry and rushed over. Sydney briefed him on the situation, and the man did not hesitate to help the woman. He used the same Heimlich maneuver, but harder than Sydney. And happily, it worked this time, after which the woman threw up the food stuck in her throat and began gasping for air, and she was saved.
    4. What did Sydney usually do during her after-school job?
    A. Sold headsets. B. Did vehicle washing.
    C. Cleaned the windows. D. Handed customers their meals.
    5. What can we know about this rescue?
    A. Sydney’s daughter dialled 911.
    B. A kid was choked when eating a hamburger.
    C. A stranger finally drove the woman to hospital.
    D. Sydney used the first aid skills she learned before.
    6. Which of the following word can best describe Sydney?
    A. Panic. B. Calm. C. Cold. D. Clever.
    7. What is the main idea of the text?
    A. A teen saves a woman’s life. B. A different meal at McDonald’s.
    C. How to get a good part time job. D. What to do when facing a difficulty.
D 5. D 6. B 7. A
根据第一段“When Sydney Raley headed into her weekend shift on Saturday, December 18, she likely expected to do more of the same: Stand at the drive-through window, take orders over the headset, and hand each customer their meal with a smile.( 12月18日,星期六,当西德尼·雷利开始她的周末工作时,她可能希望做更多同样的事情:站在免下车窗口,通过耳机接受订单,微笑着递给每位顾客他们的饭菜)”可知,Sydney在放学后的工作是做服务生给顾客端食物。
根据文章第五段第二、三句话“Then she dug down deep into her memory bank to recall everything she learned. All that training of how to use the Heimlich maneuver (海姆利克氏急救法) immediately kicked in.(然后她深入她的记忆库,回忆她学到的一切。
根据第四段“Instead, the teen remained calm and quickly shouted to her manager to dial 911. Then, she came to the rescue.(然而,这名少女仍然保持冷静,并迅速向她的经纪人大喊拨打911。
故选A。
    C
It is a well accepted assumption that students come to colleges to get good grades and that they are usually too busy to do anything else.
But Connie Snyder Mick, an academic director of the Center for Social Concerns at the University of Notre Dame, says it is just half of the truth. There are many volunteering centers like hers at the colleges and universities in the United States. Mick says these centers help students seek an experience that may not be directly related to a student’s academic progress, but that is still important.
Volunteering is not uncommon in higher education. Many college groups organize volunteer events for different causes. Officials in charge of student housing often organize such events to help build a sense of community. Participation in these kinds of activities is good for students, Mick says. For example, the busy nature of college life can create a lot of stress for students. Doing something completely unrelated to a student's studies can help calm them by putting their mind on other things.
For a more meaningful addition to their college experience. Mick urges students to visit centers like the one she heads. She says these centers exist to create volunteer opportunities that are more complex and meaningful than just a day spent cleaning a local park or raising money, for example.
Such volunteering centers often partner with local organizations that serve the people of the nearby communities. Even for students with little interest in building a connection with the local communities there is still value in what volunteer centers have to offer, Mick says. She notes some opportunities can push students to use what they are learning in the classroom out in the real world and having that kind of experience can make a student appealing to employers in the years to come.
    8. What does the underlined word “that” in paragraph 2 refer to?
    A. Academic progress.
    B. College education.
    C Volunteering experience.
    D. Center for Social Concerns.
    9. What is the housing officials’ main purpose in organizing those events?
    A. To give students good part-time jobs.
    B. To raise money for different celebrations.
    C. To help build a closer bond among the students.
    D. To improve the living conditions for the students.
    10. How can these centers’ activities benefit the students according to Mick?
    A. By helping them focus on their study.
    B. By offering chances to test their knowledge.
    C. By protecting them from the local communities.
    D. By increasing their competitiveness in the job market.
    11. What is the best title for the text?
    A. Colorful College Life in the USA
    B. Guidelines for Volunteering Center Selection
    C. Volunteering: a Meaningful Addition to College Life
    D. A Valuable Platform: Mick's Center for Social Concerns
C 9. C 10. D 11. C

Mick says these centers help students seek an experience that may not be directly related to a student’s academic progress, but that is still important.
Officials in charge of student housing often organize such events to help build a sense of community.
She notes some opportunities can push students to use what they are learning in the classroom out in the real world and having that kind of experience can make a student appealing to employers in the years to come.
C. Volunteering: a Meaningful Addition to College Life(志愿活动:大学生活中有意义的一部分)适合做本文最佳标题。故选C。
    D
Oceans hold a lot of mystery, even for people who study them. But it’s no mystery why they are in trouble. We’ve been using them to hide our waste—such as pouring oil, plastic, and poisonous chemicals into them for decades. We’ve over exploited (开采) many fish stocks to levels so low that they can no longer be harvested.
Oceans are also a primary source of protein for millions of people worldwide. If we want to continue to enjoy what oceans provide, we need to do everything we can to protect them and the life they support. We should ensure the seafood we eat is sustainable.
Of course, not everyone is lucky enough to be able to catch their own fish, which means having sustainable options in the store is critical. As the public’s and companies’ awareness about the risks caused by overfishing and uncontrolled sea farming expansion have grown, food tradesmen in Canada have developed sustainable seafood policies and commitments.
Seafood Progress, an online resource, is designed to help provide rewards for tradesmen and information for seafood lovers. It makes it easier for consumers in Canada to find out tradesmen’s policies on sourcing sustainable seafood, whether they’re sticking to those policies and how they are performing compared to other tradesmen.
But tradesmen must do more to ensure their seafood products are environmentally sustainable and socially responsible. This means expanding the range of their commitments to cover all seafood products they sell in all their stores. It also requires continuing to work with suppliers and producers to improve practices and make sure the sustainable seafood supply meets consumer demand.
It’s no mystery that if we want to continue to eat fish, we must do it responsibly. Seafood Progress has invited seafood tradesmen, suppliers and consumers to join in pushing to this goal.
    12. What’s the cause of oceans’ being in trouble according to Paragraph 1?
    A. The over-exploitation and use of the oceans. B. The mystery that people haven’t studied.
    C. The ever-changing climate of the global. D. The continuous decrease of fish stocks.
    13. What can Seafood Progress do for consumers?
    A. Provide rewards for them. B. Urge them to stick to policies.
    C. Provide them with enough seafood. D. Let them know about tradesmen’s policies.
    14. What can we infer from the text?
A Stores will be banned from selling seafood.
    B. Oceans play an important role in feeding people.
    C. People fail to note the consequence of overfishing.
    D. Tradesmen can sell seafood products without limit.
    15. How can we make seafood sustainable?
    A. By protecting all the tradesmen’s profit.
    B. Through expanding seafood production.
    C. By combining efforts of people involved in seafood.
    D. By making policies to control seafood consumers.
A 13. D 14. B 15. C
根据第一段第二、三句话“We’ve been using them to hide our waste—such as pouring oil, plastic, and poisonous chemicals into them for decades. We’ve over exploited (开采) many fish stocks to levels so low that they can no longer be harvested. 故选A。
根据第四段“It makes it easier for consumers in Canada to find out tradesmen’s policies on sourcing sustainable seafood, whether they’re sticking to those policies and how they re performing compared to other tradesmen.(这使加拿大消费者更容易了解贸易商在采购可持续海鲜方面的政策,他们是否坚持这些政策,以及与其他贸易商相比,他们的表现如何)” 可知,Seafood Progress能够为消费者做的就是让他们知道相应的政策。
根据第二段“Oceans are also a primary source of protein for millions of people worldwide. If we want to continue to enjoy what oceans provide, we need to do everything we can to protect them and the life they support. We should ensure the seafood we eat is sustainable.(海洋也是全世界数百万人蛋白质主要来源。
根据最后一段“It’s no mystery that if we want to continue to eat fish, we must do it responsibly. Seafood Progress has invited seafood tradesmen, suppliers and consumers to join in pushing to this goal.( 毫无疑问,如果我们想继续吃鱼,我们必须负责任地去做。
The Chinese words for “fish” and “plenty” are homonyms A whole fish, eaten on the eve of the lunar new year — represents a wish for plenty to come. It can be deep-fried or roasted in a pan, but if you live on a coast, or have access to first-rate fish, steaming is the way to go. ____16____, which symbolizes hopes for a surplus (盈余) in the year ahead. Spring rolls, with their fanciful appearance of gold bars, represent hopes for wealth. Uncut noodles symbolize a long life.
____17____. On the Jewish new year, Rosh Hashanah, Jews make their challah, a traditional enriched bread, in a round shape to represent the cycle of life and creation. The bread, and often apples too, are covered with honey, symbolizing the wish for a sweet year.
On New Year’s Day in America, black southerners have long eaten green vegetables together with Hoppin’ John, a delicious dish of rice and black-eyed peas (豌豆), cooked with salt pork. ____18____. Some people put a clean coin in the pot. Whoever gets it on their plate will enjoy a lot of good luck.
Whether anyone actually believes in a causal relationship between eating these foods and receiving the promised benefits is unclear. Mainly, these traditions continue for the same reason that other traditions do. ____19____.
Fish and noodles, bread and apples, beans and greens appear regularly on Chinese, Jewish and American tables. ____20____. Rather these foods are ordinary, yet with good meaning when eaten at the right time and in the right frame of mind. Good fortune, they suggest, lies all around, and is always within reach.
    A. Sweet rice cakes mean a better future
    B. Enough fish should be cooked to ensure leftovers
    C. Such customs are not unique to the Chinese culture
    D. Diverse as these dishes are, they all imply good fortune
    E. The peas symbolize coins, and the greens stand for dollar bills
    F. People have fond memories of observing them and want to pass them down
    G. They are neither costly nor exotic (异国情调的), suggesting that luck is not something bought expensively or sought with difficulty
B 17. C 18. E 19. F 20. G
所以B项“Enough fish should be cooked to ensure leftovers(要煮足够多的鱼,以确保有剩余)”符合题意。
E项“The peas symbolize coins, and the greens stand for dollar bills(豌豆代表硬币,绿色代表美元钞票)”符合题意,选项中的单词“peas”和“greens”与上一句中的“peas”和“green”是分别对应的。故选E项。
空格前的句子说,“Mainly, these traditions continue for the same reason that other traditions do(主要来说,这些传统延续的原因和其他传统一样)”,那么是什么原因呢,F项“People have fond memories of observing them and want to pass them down(人们有庆祝它们的美好回忆,并想把它们传承下去)”给出了答案。
所以,G项“They are neither costly nor exotic, suggesting that luck is not something bought expensively or sought with difficulty(它们既不昂贵,也没有异国情调,这表明运气并不是高价购买或很难追求的)”符合题意。
I’ve just read an interesting article. It says children of ____21____ mothers are less likely to stick to traditional roles of male ____22____ and female homemakers. Kids whose mothers have jobs ____23____ have a better chance of success later in life.

故填the。

故填that。
故填most important。

My father asked me to chat with him for a while. Actually, I was unwilling to listen to his talking endlessly as he always did. My father was a lawyer, but I never wanted to go to law school or follow his path through life.
As was expected, he cleared his throat and started to say, “Er... What... What do you really want to do in the gorgeous(灿烂的) future?”
I was silent for a moment playing with the cell phone. I kept thinking, “Should I tell him my true thoughts? What if he gets angry? What if I let him down?” later I replied, “Well, I want to be a writer.”
I guessed this may be not the answer he would expect. But surprisingly, “Interesting idea!” he answered. I was shocked, speaking in a low voice with hesitation.
    “Are you serious, dad?”
“Well, you need confidence and good preparations, and you still have plenty of time. You need to find out what you really enjoy now. Look, it’s late. Let’s take the boat out tomorrow morning, just you and me. Maybe we can catch some crabs (螃蟹) for dinner, and we can talk more.”
Early next morning we packed up the equipment and set off for the coast. We didn’t talk much, but enjoyed the sound of the seabirds and the sight of the coastline.
There were no big waves and blinding sunlight at that time. “Let’s see if we are lucky,” he said, picked up a web basket with a rope tied and threw it into the sea. We waited a while, then my father stood up and said, “Give me a hand with this,” and we pulled up the crab cage onto the deck.
To our joy, the cage was filled with dozens of soft shell crabs. Squatting (蹲) down, we watched them for a moment. At first they fought against each other to climb out hard, trying to escape. Many were pulled back into the cage. Later, some gave up, but there were still some crabs trying to escape again and again.
    注意:
    1. 续写词数应为150左右;
    2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
At that moment, my father pointed to the cage, “Look at that crab, there!”
    ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
From that day on, I was determined to make my dream come true
    ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
At that moment my father pointed to the cage, “Look at that crab, there!” Staring at the crab, I found that every time he wanted to escape, he was pulled back into the cage. However, he didn't give up his fight. Fortunately, he survived from the struggle eventually. Shocked and amazed, I suddenly understood why my father had suggested catching crabs that morning. I thought the future would be filled with many possibilities. Everyone would need to find out what he enjoyed and held on to it.
From that day on, I was determined to make my dream come true. Besides my devotion to school work, I spent all my spare time making full preparations for becoming a writer. Reading, collecting materials and writing made my life busy but fulfilled, which laid a good foundation for me. Meanwhile, I contributed to literature journals. Gradually, some achievements as a writer increased my confidence. I always think of the crab whenever faced with difficulties. What my father said also encouraged me on my way to success. Now I am grateful for sticking to the thing I truly dreamed of.
