Is there a library in your school? What does it look like? Today, I'd like to tell you some libraries you might not hear of before.
In some small villages of Kenya, Africa, people want to read books. But it is impossible to build roads to their homes. What you can see is only miles and miles of sand (沙). Cars and buses are of little use here. So library books arrive on the backs of camels (骆驼). Camels can walk for a long time on the sand with the books on their backs. Two camels, a camel driver, and a librarian--a person who usually works in a library, walk to the villages. One camel carries (运载) about 400 pounds(about180 kg)of books on its back, and the other carries a tent. When they get to a village, the librarian puts up the tent and puts the books inside. People go to the tent to read and borrow books. Two weeks later, the camels come back with some new books.
Some people in the mountains and forests of northern Thailand get books in a different way. Their "libraries" are carried by elephants. These animals of big sizes can walk over the mountains and through the forests without much difficulty. Because of their size, they can carry heavy loads of books in metal (金属) bookcases. The metal stops the books from the heavy rains that fall in the mountains and forests.
Indonesia has its own way. There are over 17, 000 islands (鸟屿)in the country. Most people travel by boat, and their library books travel in the same way. Wendy was hot, tired, and bored. She walked slowly along behind her elder brother, Bill, as they were on the way up to the small house at the fire lookout tower (火警瞭望塔)in a national forest park. Some large meat-eating birds flew in circles lazily in the sky above them, and Wendy wondered if they would eat her if she died out there in the park. The sun was too hot. The trees and grass were ugly (丑陋)and the trip was boring.
"Almost there!" Bill said excitedly. This was his first summer job. He would work as a fire watcher in the national forest park. He would be staying on top of a mountain all summer, watching for fires in the national forest park. He was excited and didn't find how tired Wendy was.
Finally, Wendy couldn't walk further if she didn't sit down and take a rest first. She stopped and sat under the tall tree and drank some water from her bottle. Bill kept walking on for quite a few minutes before he knew that Wendy was no longer behind him.
"Sorry, "he said, going back and sitting beside his sister. "I forgot your legs are shorter than mine. "Wendy made a face at her brother and laughed. Then Bill handed Wendy some dried strawberries and peanuts (花生)from his backpack. "If you eat them together, it is like making a peanut butter and jelly (果酱) sandwich in your mouth, "he said.
The strawberries and peanuts tasted delicious. Wendy closed her eyes, reached out her arms and legs, and moved her toes (脚趾)in her hiking shoes. She heard a songbird singing nearby and caught the smell of flowers in nature. Suddenly, the sun didn't seem so hot and the trees weren't ugly anymore.

Stephen Hawking, one of the world's most famous scientists, once said, "Once we step into space, our future should be safe, "Do you agree with him?
Today, many countries such as the United States, Russia, China, are building space stations and sending astronauts there. These stations will prepare humans to visit and later live on Mars (火 星)or other earth-like planets.
Robert Zubrin, a rocket scientist, thinks it is a right thing for the countries to do so. Humans should move to other planets and build new homes there. He wants to start with Mars. Why? He thinks sending people to Mars will help us to learn a lot of things---for example, the ability (能力) of humans to live in a very different environment. In the end, we could work and live on other planets. Besides, any improvement we make in science, technology (科技), medicine and health will do good to people here on Earth
Elon Musk, the founder and CEO of Space X, a company (公司)that builds rockets, also believes we should send humans to Mars. He doesn’t want to send just “one little mission (使命), ” though. His long-term plan is to put one million people there if some bad things happen to us here on Earth.
Not everyone thinks sending humans into space is a smart idea. Many people say it's too expensive. Also, most space trips are not short. A one-way trip to Mars, for example, would take at least six months. People who have such a long way to travel could face many health problems. What's more, these first people would find life terribly difficult in space. On the moon's surface (表面), for example, the sun’s rays (光线)are very dangerous. People would have to stay indoors most of the time.
Although there will be lots of difficulties, sending people into space seems certain. As the saying goes, "My conquest (征途)is the sea of stars". In the future, we might see cities or even new human cultures on other planets.
57. Both Robert Zubrin and Elon Musk probably agree that ______.
A. it's impossible to send humans into space
B. people should live on the moon in the future
C. it's not a good idea to live on the earth
D. it's necessary to send humans to other planets lice Mars
58. From Paragraph 5, we know _____.
A. Stephen Hawking is one of the world's most famous scientists
B. humans will be dangerous if they stay outdoers in space
C. there are a few reasons not to send humans into space
D. there are some reasons to travel to Mars
59. The structure of the article may be ______.
60. Which of the following is true?
A. Travelling in space is fun and meaningful
B. In Paragraph 1, the word "our" means humans'.
C. To prepare humans to live on the moon a lot of countries are planning to build space stations.
D. Not everyone agrees that humans should move to other planets because humans know nothing about space.
