Units1-2阅读理解题组——练速度.阅读理解AFamily-FriendlyWalksPADLEYGORGENext to Grindleford Station, eight miles north of Bakewell, lies Padley Gorge.Trails are kept as natural as possibleit’s more a case of finding the gaps in the woods than following a path.LONGSHAWESTATEThe 1.7-mile walking route around this National Trust estate skirts the upper end of Padley Gorge.People love the stepping stones, but Longshaw is mostly all about the giant fallen trees, left in place for little hands and feet to delightfully climb over.HIGGERTORA pile of giant rocks dominates Higger Tor,the best of several lookouts along the Ringinglow Road between Hathersage and Sheffield.Walk through the nearby fields, and then let the kids climb over hundreds of strangely smooth grey stones. The views out over the Hope Valley are great and impressive, and the rock pools in Burbage Brook are perfect for rowing in.STANAGEEDGEPopular with rock climbers, this stone cliff marks the boundary of the mysterious land of the Dark Peak cliff and the grass-covered flat land of White Peak. It’s a six mile circular walk from Hathersage.Alternatively, park at the Hollin Bank Car Park and climb half a mile to the top,out of breath.CHATSWORTHESTATEA three-mile circle from Calton Lees Car Park takes in a ruined factory, the pretty village of Edensor and views of Chatsworth House.Appreciate the stretch along the River Derwentdeer often hang out there.1.Whom is the text intended for?A.Friends. B.Farmers.C.Families. D.Climbers.2.Which walks are most suitable for children?A.HIGGER TOR and STANAGE EDGE.B.LONGSHAW ESTATE and HIGGER TOR.C.PADLEY GORGE and LONGSHAW ESTATE.D.STANAGE EDGE and CHATSWORTH ESTATE.3.During which walk are you likely to meet with big animals?A.PADLEY GORGE.B.LONGSHAW ESTATE.C.STANAGE EDGE.D.CHATSWORTH ESTATE.BI first discovered Ruskin Bond on a hot afternoon in Agartala. My mother, sister and I were spending the summer with my father,an army officer, who was stationed there. There wasn’t much to do for a young teen in the army cantonment,so I spent most of my days at the library, which housed a variousif modestcollection of books.I casually picked up Bond’s DelhiIsNotFar on one such day and was immediately drawn into his gentle,unassuming,non-judgmental world.Since that day,I’ve searched for and read quickly with great enthusiasm every one of Ruskin Bond’s works.I think my affinity came from the fact that I identified on some level with him.Like me,he was shy and dreamy and enjoyed the company of the written word above that of people.A particularly painful theme that runs through Ruskin Bond’s work is his relationship with his father. The two were extremely close, more so perhaps because they were each other’s sole emotional support system.Bond’s parents divorced when he was little, and so it was just him and his father, and the latter comes across as a sensitive, gentle man who adored his son.Bond’s father died suddenly of malaria at 46,when Bond was just 10a cruel blow for the young boy. It’s remarkable how Bond writes about his father’s untimely death with a quiet dignity:It is deeply touching but never maudlin.Moved as I was by Bond’s memories of his father, little did I know that I would soon be experiencing his pain first-hand.When I was 21,my father too suddenly passed away after a brief illness.Looking back at the time immediately after my father’s passing, all I remember is a feeling of utter disbelief,of thinking.I sought refuge in my beloved books, and no other author gave me as much assistance and relief as did my beloved Ruskin Bond.4.Why did the author go to the library?A.To read Bond’s novel.B.To review his lessons.C.To broaden his horizons.D.To kill his time.5.Which can best explain the underlined part in the third paragraph?A.Passion. B.Sympathy.C.Relief. D.Inspiration.6.What does the author think of Bond’s father?A.Determined. B.Considerate.C.Wealthy. D.Intelligent.7.Which would be the best title for the text?A.My Father:an Army OfficerB.Unforgettable Time After My Father’s DeathC.Ruskin Bond’s Works:My Beloved BooksD.My Experience in the Army CantonmentCBecoming a parent brings out the best in many animals.Although parenting is usually left to the females, males from many species go above and beyond to care for the offspring.Take anemone fish (海葵鱼) for example. In FindingNemo,Marlin swims over 1,000 miles from the Great Barrier Reef to Sydney to rescue his son Nemo, who has been caught by divers. In reality, anemone fish rarely move so far away from their home.Despite their smaller size, the males help the females defend the nest, but only the male anemone fish take care of it.They use their fins as fans to provide a constant flow of oxygen and keep the surroundings clean. They also put a lot of effort in building the nest. The eggs take about five days to hatch.During this important period, dads fan them to provide oxygen and remove the rubbish. They also pick up the eggs in their mouths and move them around to remove any bacteria. One of the biggest threats comes from female sticklebacks (刺鱼),who form organized groups and attack the nests to eat all the eggs.Males defend the newborn fish and bring back the ones who move too far from the nest.Once the fish grow up,they become a little bit more independent and start to swim away. The dad swims after them, picks them up in his mouth, and spits them back into his nest.Eventually,he gets to the point where he can’t keep track of them and that’s when they separate.Doting (溺爱的) fathers are not restricted to the world of fish.In some poison frog species, the dads also warn the moms when the young ones are hungry and need to be fed. It’s generally believed that moms are the caregivers. In fish and frogs,it’s actually more common for the dads to provide care.8.What does the underlined word offspring in Paragraph 1 probably mean?A.Children. B.Relatives.C.Friends. D.Colleagues.9.What can we infer about male anemone fish?A.They take full responsibility for building the nest.B.They are much larger than female anemone fish.C.They are actually extremely excellent fathers.D.They frequently make attacks on other fishes.10.What does it mean when the dad can’t track its young fish?A.The dad can’t tend to the young fish.B.The young fish are already independent.C.The living environment is worse.D.The dad is in a state of aging.11.What can be the best title for the text?A.The Model Father in the Animal KingdomB.The New Role of the Male Anemone FishC.The Really Caring Caregivers in LifeD.A Strange Phenomenon in NatureDOnline education has grown fast over the past ten years. The explosion of technology has made teaching outside the traditional classroom possible for teachers and has provided learners with easy access to course materials. Its attractiveness, benefits, and challenges are addressed. In April,2005,I was approached by a student who was interested in our doctoral program. However, the first question out of her mouth was,Do you offer any online courses? Later that day,as I was reading the conference program guide trying for interesting presentations,I noticed many workshops on web-based learning and online education.I later attended two of those workshops and met several professors from different universities who had either taught online courses for quite some time or who were discovering the best practice for teaching online. These experiences helped me realize at least to some extent the degree of growth in online education. My responsibilities for the term included gaining more understanding of online education.Consequently,I made several attempts to enrich my knowledge of distance learning and online teaching.I consulted with my colleagues who were teaching online courses. This helped me recognize the importance of getting materials prepared even before the start of a term.I also learned that online courses may consume more time than regular classroom teaching. And I attended several workshops regarding online education and established a network with those who were involved in online programs at other universities.I would consider these people as my consultants as I began to design my own online course. Also,I conducted a brief survey with 15 students and two staff members who had taken or taught an online course before to understand their experience.Eventually I completed a literature review which gave me the foundation and the background of understanding the need for online education.12.What benefits the development of online education?A.Teachers’ good teaching ability.B.Lack of traditional classrooms.C.Learners’ access to free courses.D.The rapid advance of technology.13.Why did the author take a student for example?A.To show students’ love for the doctoral program.B.To persuade learners of traditional education.C.To explain the growing trend of online education.D.To predict the future of the teaching career.14.What caused the author to know more about online education?A.The appetite for knowledge.B.The professional responsibilities.C.The requirement of research.D.The colleagues’ encouragement.15.What is the author’s attitude to online education?A.Carefree. B.Doubtful.C.Supportive. D.Unwilling..阅读七选五Choosing a career can be a difficult task.Since most people spend the majority of their days working, your chosen career should help you
