    Step 1 warm-up
    T gets the students t have a free talk and read the famus saying written by Chen Shu.
    T: Peple have been dreaming abut time travel fr many years, and H.G. Wells wrte a famus nvel named The Time Machine, then if yu had a time machine,
    which dynasty wuld yu g back t and why?
    which histrical figure wuld yu like t meet and what wuld yu say t him/ her?
    T: By learning frm the past, we can enrich ur knwledge abut histrical figures and events, and it can als enlighten us n what is ging n, and prevent us making the same mistakes in the future. Just as Chen Shu said——culd yu please stand up and read it twice?
    (Lking int a mirrr, we can see true images f ur wn; with ur knwledge f the past, the present can be better knwn.)

    Step 2 Reading
    The teacher asks students t predict the cntent f the tw histrical articles.
    T: What might be cvered in the tw histrical articles?
    (Tips: accrding t the title, subtitles and pictures)
    Then the teacher asks students t lk thrugh the articles quickly and get the main idea.
    (Zheng He’s and Clumbus’s explratin n the sea, including where they went, what they did, why they sailed the ceans and what influences their vyages had.)

    (2)What helped prve that the recrds f Zheng He’s vyages were nt legends?
    An enrmus shipyard was discvered in Nanjing, where the fleet had been built.
    (3)What challenges did Clumbus and his crew encunter during the jurney in 1492?
    It tk lnger than expected, they almst ran ut f fd and water entered ne f the ships.
    Why did Clumbus call the natives Indians?
    Because he was cnvinced that he was in the East Indies.

    What have yu learnt abut the spirit f explratin frm the articles?

    Eg. My grandmther read newspapers in the beautiful garden, with tw little dgs arund her, which was a nice and warm scene.
    Students shut slgans while running n the playgrund, with _________________________, which________________________________________.
    His vyages pened a new chapter f the Age f Explratin, a perid which witnessed many imprtant gegraphical findings.
    Eg. His cming pened a new chapter f the cmpany, which greatly prmted its sale.
