Step 1 Warming-up

  Show some pictures of public places, and play a guessing game. Talk about the pictures.  T: In this module, we are going to learn how to ask for and give directions. Look! I have some pictures. Today I want to go out. Where can I take a bus? Point out the picture. Encourage or help students to answer

Step 2 match the words from the box with the pictures

Ask students to read the words in activity 1 aloud and try to match them with the pictures.

  Then listen and number the places

  Play the recording twice while the students listen and number the places they hear in order.

Check their answers in pairs.

Step 3.work in pairs

  Ask students to work in pairs to do this.

 The students make a list first, and then decide where the places are and write sentences.

  Check the answers with another pair.

At last Check the answers together.

Step 4 Listening and reading

  Tell the students to look at a map of central Beijing. Ask what places they can see.

  Then ask the students to listen to the conversation. They only need to find out where the tourist wants to go.

  Play the recording through and check their answers.

  Play the recording again and tell the students to check their answers and follow the street names.

  Then tell the students to read the questions, and then go back to the conversation and find the answers.

  Ask them check their answers in pairs.

Call back the answers from the class.

Step5: Language points

1．问路的常用句型有：Which is the way to...?  How could I get to...?  Is there a ···？ Where is...?   Can/Could you tell me the way to...?

2．指路的常用句型有：Go along …；Turn right / left；at the …crossing ； on the right; It’s next to …；It’s opposite …；It’s between … and … 等。

3．Is there a bookshop near here? 附近有书店么？

4．opposite  prep.在……的对面；常与名词一起构成介词短语。

E.g. The bank is opposite the supermarket.

5. How can I get there?  我怎样去哪里？

get to …表示“到达”，后跟名词或代词作宾语，若跟副词，则省略“to”.

turn on 打开；旋转(电灯、电视等)  turn off 关掉(电灯、水龙头等)
