When I was growing up, I was embarrassed to be seen with my father. He was disabled and very short. When we walked together, people would stare at us.

Our usual walk was to or from the subway, which was how he got to work. He almost never missed a day. He would make it to the office even if others could not. It was a matter of pride for him.

He never felt sad for himself or envied (嫉妒) other people who could walk normally. What he looked for in others was a good heart. To him, that mattered more than anything else.

My father still tried to do the same things as others did, even if he couldn’t do them the same way. For example, he liked to go to dances and parties, where he could have a good time just sitting and watching instead of dancing.

I now know he took part in some things through me, his only son. When I played basketball (poorly), he “played” too. When I joined the army, he “joined” too. When I visited his office, he would introduce me, but he was really saying, “This is my son, but it is also me, and I could have done this, too, if things had been different.”

He has been gone for many years now. I wonder if he ever noticed that I was embarrassed to be seen with him during our walks. If he did, I am sorry that I never told him how sorry I feel. I think of him when I find myself envying others—when I don’t have a good heart.

30What made the father feel especially proud?

AHe drew lots of love from other people. BHe almost never missed a day at the office.

CHis son sent him to the office every day. DHe could walk with his son.

31What did the father think of his situation?

AHe didn’t envy people who could walk normally. BHe wanted people to understand him

CHe could always do things the same way as others. DHe sometimes felt sorry for himself.

32What does the father mean by saying “if things had been different”?

AIf he could join the army. BIf the rules were different.

CIf he was not disabled. DIf he was treated well.

33What can we infer about the author from the text?

AHis father has been gone for many years. BHe feels sorry for being embarrassed.

CHe doesn’t have a good heart. DHe still feels embarrassed to have his dad.

We usually think that garbage is useless and dirty. However, an art exhibition in 2019 proves that”useless” things can actually be helpful.

Dear Pretty Rubbish, an art event organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWFN) and digital media art company Blackbow, was held in Beijing. It looked at wasteful garbage and asked questions about the relationship between our lifestyles and our garbage.

“We hope that everyone who visited the show can think about how ‘useless things’ are produced, why they are tossed out, and whether ‘useless things’ are really useless”, said Cao Yujia, the design director at Blackbow.

Artists Zhou Yuxuan and Liu Yifan collected nylon cable ties, LED lights and plastic bottles from designers’ workshops to create a work where plastics, in the shape of cells, “grow” in a comer. There, the lights blink(闪烁) regularly just like “breathing”. When people walk near it, the work responds by showing light patterns, as if communicating with the visitors.

Speaking about the work, Zhou said: “It’s like some kind of communication between humans and plastics.”

Plastic has a life longer than almost any creature, taking centuries to break down. Though people think plastics damage the environment, they are a big part of our daily lives. “So we want to ask the question: Although the damage continues, is there a way for humans to reconcile (和解) with plastics?” said Zhou.

34Which phrase can take the place of the underlined phrase “tossed out”?

Aworked out Bused up Cthrown away Dput off

35Which of the following might Zhou agree with?

    AUseless things are really useless.

BArtists should make works from garbage.

CPlastics should be left to break down on their own.

DHumans should find a better way to deal with plastics.

36Which word can best describe the art event?

    ACreative BWasteful CBalanced DAwful

37Which is the best title of the text?

ATry new ways to reduce garage BPlastic pollution around us

CLive peacefully with “garbage” DCommunications between human beings and nature

    Dear fellow students,

With the development of the society, people pay more and more attention to a healthy diet. It is one of the most important parts of healthy lifestyles. But how to have a healthy diet?

As the saying goes, “bread is the staff of life”. Eating healthily and deliciously is the goal we pursue. From my point of view, in order to build healthy eating habits, we should eat more vegetables and less junk food because vegetables are rich in vitamins. Too much junk food can lead to obesity, which is harmful to health. Besides, we should focus on a balanced diet, which assures us the necessary nutrition. No matter what happened, don’t break the law of the original life, to eat on time.

All above are my thoughts about having a healthy diet. If we can do as them, our body will become much better and healthier.
