Mark Twain was a famous American writer. He wrote many funny stories which are still read by many people all over the world. Besides writing, he also liked hunting and fishing, so one year he went to Maine for a holiday and spent three very pleasant weeks there.

When he had to go back home, he drove to the station with his baggage (行李). There he asked a porter (搬运工) to put them into the train. Then he got into the smoking car and sat down in one of the comfortable seats. A few minutes later, another man got in and sat down opposite to him. It would be impolite to say nothing when two persons sat face to face, so he began to talk.

First they talked about the weather and then the stranger said, “We have some beautiful woods in Maine. It would be a pity to come to Maine without staying there. I suppose you have been in our woods, haven't you?” “Yes, I have,” answered Mark Twain. “I've just spent three weeks there. I've got two hundred pounds of fish in this train although fishing isn't allowed in Maine at this season. By the way, may I ask who you are, sir?”

The stranger looked at him for several seconds, and then answered, “I'm a police. My job is to catch people who hunt and fish during the wrong seasons. And who are you?”

Mark Twain was surprised and frightened when he heard this. He thought quickly and then answered, “Well, I'll tell you, sir. I'm the man who tells the biggest lies in America.”

April 1st is a day for people to play jokes on others. If one succeeds in joking with somebody, one laughs and says, “April Fool,” and then the person who has been joked with usually laughs, too. I suffered this kind of experience last year.

   Last April 1st, I took a bus to visit my uncle in Los Angels because I hadn’t seen him for a long time. In the middle way, the road was so small and not so straight that the driver had great trouble in driving along. When the bus slowed down and stopped, he quickly turned his key again and again, looking very worried. He had tried several times, but nothing happened. Then he turned to us with an unhappy look on his face and said, “This poor bus is getting old and it isn’t going as well as it used to. There is one thing to do if we want to get home before dark. I shall count three, and on the word ‘three’, I want you all to lean forward（前倾）suddenly as hard as you can. That should get the bus started again. Now, all of you lean back as far as you can in your seats and get ready.”

    All of us followed the driver’s words. We leaned back all at once and waited quietly for the driver’s number counting. Then the driver turned to his front and asked whether they had gotten ready. We hardly had enough breath to answer “yes”.

    “One! Two! Three!” counted the driver. We all leaned forward suddenly - and the bus started up at a great speed.

    We were happy that the bus started again. But our happiness turned to surprise when the driver cried, “April Fools. All of us had been fooled by the bus driver.

Nowadays many schools often organize sports activities, such as football games, races, basketball matches and so on. They think sports activities are good for the students. However, some of them still have different views about these sports activities.

Let’s take the teachers opinions as an example. Most teachers hold the opinion that sports activities are good to the health of the students. They can help the students to fight with illness. There's a saying which can express their reason. Life lies in motion(运动). And they also believe that during those activities, the students can develop the spirit of hard work and cooperation(合作).
