Paper cutting is a flk culture with s lng a histry. When Chinese lunar New Year is cming, it is a custm fr nrthern peple t paste the paper cutting n windw. Gradually, it develps int an art frm. The ldest surviving paper cut ut is a symmetrical circle frm the 6th century fund in Xinjiang.
Paper Cutting
Paper-cutting riginated during the Nrthern and Suthern Dynasties perid(南北朝420-589)。Frm the 7th t 13th century, paper cutting became ppular especially during Chinese hliday festival. Tang dynasty is a great develpment time f paper cutting. In the Sng dynasty, The patterns were abundant and clurful: phenix, characters with the meaning f luck and happiness. Red is the mst cmmnly used clur. Sme were made fr presents' decratins and sme were cut fr psting n.
When time came t Ming dynasty, paper cutting with patterns f bamb, flwers and birds was inserted between tw pieces f viles and clured with batiks t make lantern cvers. Patterns appeared thrugh the candle light. This was anther daily applicatin f paper cuttings.
