But they die in the effort as she crushes them following her transformation into a mountain. However, if she likes the joke, she will give them a persimmon (柿子).As a result, people from Yanjin tell really good jokes.
Corriere della Sera, an Italian newspaper, called Liu "the Kalka of Beijing". In 2018, Liu was awarded France's Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters.
An author at Kirkus Reviews, a book review site in the United States, writes, "Liu has written a masterful tale that will make you laugh even as you despair". Witnessed by organizers, sports figures, performers and students, the flame for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games—housed in a red lantern—drew crowds of onlookers as it was escorted (护送)by volunteers into the ceremony held at Beijing's Olympic Tower. The flame arrived early on Wednesday, October 20 after being flown from Greece, the birthplace of the Olympics, where it was lit two days earlier.
The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics will run from Feb. 4 to Feb. 20. Games events are scheduled in three zones—downtown Beijing, the capital’s northwest Yanqing district and co-host Zhangjiakou in Hebei province.
As an iconic cultural element of the Olympic Games, the torch relay plays a significant role in promoting the host's international image while spreading the message of peace, solidarity, friendship and health. Due to the pandemic, however, games organizers have cut back the traditional torch relay to a small-scale event. The relay will take place in three host areas and involve about 1,200 torchbearers. The shortened torch relay with reduced crowds will help ensure the health and safety of all participants as well as that of local communities.
The relay is scheduled for Feb. 2 to Feb. 4, with the route connecting landmarks, historical sites and major tourism attractions in Beijing and Zhangjiakou. An online version of the torch relay making use of virtual reality (VR)technologies is also planned for social media platforms. Although the length and duration of the torch relay has been reduced, this represents an innovative approach to maximize the benefits of the technology in connecting more people in an interactive way.
The designs of the torch, lantern and cauldron (主火炬)echo each other within a consistent concept that strikes a strong impression of dynamism and vitality. The lantern, which will be used for the flame exhibition tour, is based on the Changxin Palace Lamp, a bronze oil lamp from the Western Han Dynasty, while the cauldron features the same red and silver colors and cloud pattern as the torch. Drawing inspiration from the main cauldron for the 2008 Beijing Summer Games, the torch for the Beijing 2022 Games is called the uflying ribbon".

The five children in Larrane Leech's day care group were outdoors early, painting landscapes under the dizzy sun. By 10 a. m. , it was time to find shade, so Larrane decided they would walk down to the river.
“We're going to pick berries now, "she announced. A nature lover, Larrane insisted they spend as much time as possible outdoors.
Larrane handed each child an empty jar and called for Pal, her one-year-old German shepherd (德国牧羊犬).The group made its way over the dusty road and then onto a dirt path through the trees. They stopped at the first berry bush and got busy picking berries, cheering and talking excitedly.
A young cougar (美洲狮)cocked an ear toward the birdlike chatter and sniffed the air. Stepping over the thick carpet of pine needles, the cougar moved quietly toward the children.
Larrane sensed the children suddenly go quiet. She looked up to see the back end of a cougar, the size of Pal, standing over one child, Mikey. The sight of the cougar near her kids immediately froze Larrane. Larrane couldn't tell whether Mikey had been bitten. Her mind racing wildly, she darted toward the cougar. Desperately intending to grab its tail, she shifted aim at the last minute and seized the cougar by the neck. She shook it from side to side. Instantly, the cougar wheeled toward Larrane. Growling and hissing, it stretched up high and brought its paws down upon the head of the woman. Although still in its youth, it had all the teeth and muscle a cougar needs to pull down a victim three times its size. This animal was capable of killing her.

第二节
Possible version:
Now aware of the danger, the other four children screamed and ran behind Larrane. They picked up branches from the ground and began attacking the cougar. However, their strikes only managed to anger the fierce beast. Letting out a threatening howl, it scratched Larrane head. Blood began to flow down Larrane9s face, but she held tightly onto its neck to prevent its deadly bite. Just then, Pal came to her rescue. He sank his sharp teeth into the beast and tore open its flesh while dragging it backward. Facing such united enemy, the cougar had to admit defeat and flee.
Larrane rushed to Mikey, who lay quietly on the ground. He was still breathing. 44Thank God! He's alive. ” Larrane thought in relief, but he was disturbingly still because he was in total shock. "We have to run home now. ” She said calmly to the terrified children, 44 Everything will be all right. " With Mikey on her back and the other children following her, she ran all the way back to the day care center. The other staff helped her put Mikey down on a bed. That was when she finally had time to attend to her wound. Larrane met the greatest challenge of her life head-on and won. Sometimes we have no idea what we can do until we have to make a choice between life and death.

W: I guess you're right, but it seems like a lot of work. I suppose it would bring more people to these festivals, though.
Text 8 (第13题为推断题)
W: Are you sure you know where you're going? We have passed almost 20 highway exits already. I feel like you are lost already.
M: You're too nervous. We've only passed about 15 and besides there's still the other half left. (11) We9re only halfway there.
W: I don't remember this restaurant being so far away. I don't think you know the way. (12) Can we please just stop and ask for directions? I don't want to spend all day in the car. Besides, we will miss our reservation time.
M: Relax. You weren't even awake for most of the car ride last time. If it makes you feel better, I need to stop at the gas station anyway. So feel free to ask when we are there. They are going to tell you the same thing as I just did, though.
W: It would make me feel a lot better if I knew for sure. Thank you for being patient with me.
Text 9 (第16题为总结题)(第17题为推断题)
W: Morning, John. (14) (15) Would you like your regular order today? It's a breakfast sandwich with two eggs, right?
M: Hi, Sarah. I am actually going to try something new today. Any recommendations?
W: Sure. I can appreciate that you like trying new things sometimes. I am the same way. We just put a new sandwich on the menu last week. It has roasted turkey and cheese. There is also a today's soup which is tomato.
M: Hmm. Those sound good, but I think Fll get something a little healthier. Soups have a bit too much salt and I am trying to stay away from bread.
W: Why don't you try a salad? (14) I can have the cook put turkey and cheese in there if you'd like.
M: That sounds great. Ill have that. (14)
W: Will you be getting something to drink, too? (15) I just made coffee and there's a new tea this week.
M: No. I have some water in the car already. (15)
W: OK. Will you be eating here or taking your meal to go?
M: I have to run back to work, so I'll be taking it to go. How much is it?
W: It will be $ 12, please.
Text 10
This is a public health announcement. Officials in Greene County have issued a warning to all people in Oakwood and Birch Creek. High levels of lead(铅),a chemical element, have been found coming out of old pipes in several of the houses. The officials were made aware of this problem on Friday by local hospitals, which were treating increased numbers of people for lead poisoning. The government ofHcials have worked overtime this past weekend, coming up with a plan to test the pipes of all homes and apartment buildings that were built before 1980. (18) Homes built before 1980 were required to use other kind of pipes in place of lead. As testing the water in so many individual homes will take around 10 months, the two affected towns will be provided five gallons of water from the PURE Water Company per adult per day. Children under the age of seven will get three gallons each. (19) This water is intended only for drinking and cooking. As long as people don't consume the water that comes from the tap, it can still be used for bathing and cleaning. (20) The town of Hollinwell is not yet on the list for dangerous lead levels in the tap water, but people there are advised to follow these guidelines as well. All people in Greene County should check the local news every day for any updates on this public health concern.
