She tapped him on the shoulder and    13   up. “Here,” she said, “I will leave one of these pencils on your desk    14    everybody makes mistakes, even teachers.” Jeremy smiled.

The pencil became Jeremy’s prize. It made him    15    the meaning of making mistakesit’s all right to make mistakes, as long as you erase them and try.

Do you really know how to eat fruit in a healthy way? We all think eating fruit means just buying fruit,    16    it into pieces and putting them into our plates. It’s not as easy as you think. It’s important to know how and when to eat fruit.

Fruit should be eaten on a(n)    17    stomach. If you eat fruit like that, it will go straight through the stomach into the body. It will be good for your health and provide you with plenty of    18    for life activities. But when you eat two pieces of bread and then some fruit, the situation will be different. Do you know the reason? You have probably heard people saying “Every time I eat pineapple, I have an ache in my stomach.” When the fruit is    19    with other food, it produces gas. That’s why you will feel    20    . Actually, we will not check if we eat the fruit reasonably.

Eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice. When you    21    want to drink fruit juice, drink only    22    fruit juice, not from the bottles or cans. Don’t drink juice that has been heated up. Don’t eat cooked fruit because you can’t get a lot of vitamins or minerals. You mainly get the    23    .

If you understand the    24    way of eating fruit, you’ll have the    25    of beauty, health, energy.

What do you think of the “new” hat I made for my sister? It used to be my mum’s sweater.

    New uses for old clothing

Nowadays, we’re more wasteful than ever-buying, using and throwing things away without thinking about the costs. We need to start living more responsibly-but how? One answer is to upcycle (再生利用).

If you’re like me, you might already make soil for gardening from food waste and use empty paper boxes as storage space. Did you know you can apply(应用)the same way to old clothing? You just need imagination!

I started upcycling clothing. Making new things out of old clothes is the best way to mix my talent and my interest. Do you upcycle? If so, what new things have you made? If not, why not give it a try?

Why don’t you give your old clothes to people in need? I even give away the most expensive things I don’t wear anymore. So I can help the environment while giving something useful to people in need.

Good point! I’m talking about only the oldest clothing in your room-the clothes that are too old to be worn by others. The same idea goes for food waste at restaurants and supermarkets. Before upcycling food that can still be eaten, for example, using it to make soil

I’ve made shopping bags out of T-shirts and dog toys out of socks.

Upcycling clothing is a fun hobby, but the most important thing is that it makes me feel like I’m living less wastefully.

AIt came from an old sweater.

BIt was given by Gina’s mum.

    CIt was new and expensive.

DIt was a gift from Gina’s sister.

27Why did Gina give a reply to Terry B?

    BTo introduce a new method.

    CTo further explain her idea.

    DTo express her deep regret.

28What did Betty99 upcycle to make dog toys?

Today we can do everything with apps — pay bills, order food and shop for anything. Mobile technology means we can hold the world in our hands. However, when it comes to technology and healthcare

Let’s start with the ways to get healthcare. Telemedicine can allow a patient to use technology to see the doctor on line and get a diagnosis (诊断) and instructions without leaving home.

In addition, there are many patient websites. These allow for different kinds of interactions about our health needs without involving the medical team. Setting a date with doctors and reading lab results are readily achieved by technology.

A whole new age of medical care seems likely to come in the future. But every coin has two sides. What might be on the other side of techno-healthcare?

Firstly, we should think about the healthcare experience as a whole. A usual visit to a doctor begins with a receptionist, who can see and tell how a patient is doing. This may influence the treatment effect. It’s unlikely that a patient website will have such intuition.

Next, sharing the details of one’s life requires trust, which takes time to build. This is certainly true in healthcare.

Lastly, test results can be difficult to understand. When someone without a medical degree sees a flagged result with no explanation on the website, there’s room for all kinds of stories to form in their minds — and also great worry.

So how does medicine adapt (适应) to the new technology age? Very talented companies are working on it. There is medical equipment that can be used at home to send important signs and heart sounds through telemedicine. It seems likely that some companies will find a way to explain test results.

But what it will not achieve is the warmth of human interaction and touch. Patients often need someone to listen to — and care about — their journey story, which will never be realized through a human-less technology. Technology should be a tool, but depending on it totally will most certainly have unexpected effects. Let’s not allow our humanity to be one of them.

29According to the passage, how does technology help healthcare?

AIt encourages doctors to voice their needs on the websites.

BIt offers a patient a convenient way to get a diagnosis.

CIt improves relations between doctors and patients.

DIt provides an opportunity to build a medical team.

30The underlined word “intuition” in Paragraph 5 probably means ________.

Aan ability to understand Ban interesting action

Ca chance to win Da fair decision

31What do you know about techno-healthcare from the passage?

APatient websites require trust from doctors.

BTalented companies can give medical advice.

CFlagged results may cause worry for patients.

    DMedical equipment collects patients’ stories.

32The writer probably agrees that ________.

Atechnology can deal with unexpected effects

Btelemedicine can take the place of usual healthcare

Cit is easy for patients to adapt to the new technology age

Dtechno-healthcare should take humanity into consideration

Many years ago, my dad was facing a serious heart condition. He was unable to do a steady job. He would suddenly fall ill and had to be admitted to the hospital.

He wanted to do something to keep himself busy, so he decided to volunteer at the local children’s hospital. My dad loved kids. It was the perfect job for him. He worked with the seriously sick children. He would talk, play and do arts with them.

One of his kids was a girl with a rare disease that paralysed(使瘫痪)her from the neck down. She couldn’t do anything, and she was very depressed. My dad decided to try to help her. He started to visit her in her room, brushes and paper. He stood the paper up, put the paintbrush in his mouth and began to paint. He didn’t use his hands at all. All the while he would tell her, “you can do anything you set your mind to.” At the end of the day, the girl began to paint using her mouth.

Soon after, the little girl was sent home because the doctors felt there was nothing else they could do for her. My dad also left the children’s hospital for a little while because he became ill again. Some time later after my dad had recovered and returned to work, the little girl came in. But this time she was walking. She ran straight over to my dad and hugged him really tight. She gave him a picture she had done using her hands. At the bottom it read, “Thank you for helping me walk.”

My dad would cry every time he told us this story, and so would we. He would say sometimes love is more powerful than a doctor. And my dadwho died just a few months after the little girl gave him the pictureloved every single child in that hospital.

33How did the writer’s father help the paralysed little girl?

    AHe helped her practise walking.

DHe painted special pictures for her.

35In what order did the following events of the writer’s dad take place?

    a. He saw the girl run and received a picture that she had done with her hands.

    b. He began to face a serious heart condition.

    c. He told the story of the girl and cried.

    d. He brought paints, brushes and paper to the girl.

    e. He decided to volunteer at the local children’s hospital.

    Aebdac Bbedca

    Cebcda Dbedac

36What does the writer mainly want to tell us?

AThe writer’s father was a great man.

BLove can sometimes bring great results.

    CVolunteering is a meaningful career.

DA sick person should forget his disease

Imagine this. There’s an apple and a piece of cake on a table. Which one would you like? The delicious cake or the healthy apple? A bestseller, Willpower: Rediscovering Our Greatest Strength, suggests that willpower(意志力) is the ability to make decisions that are better for us in the long term, rather than in the short term.

Here is a famous experiment in the book The Marshmallow Test. In 1972, Professor Walter Mischel tested the willpower of 600 four-year-olds to six-year-olds. In the experiment, each child was left alone in a room for fifteen minutes with a marshmallow(棉花软糖), if they waited fifteen minutes, they’d be given a second one (and then they could eat both).

So, what did the kids do? Well, as you can imagine, he got in touch with the children, who, were in their early twenties. And he found that those who’d shown strong willpower were getting better marks at university and were more popular.

Willpower is like a muscle(肌肉), and the more you exercise it, the stronger it gets.

So, if you do daily “self-control exercises”, such as making your bed or brushing your teeth, such as studying for an exam or training for a marathon.

Be careful though. Just like any muscle, your “willpower muscle” can get tired. If you have to do lots of things that require willpower, take a break or give yourself a treat. In that way, you’ll build up your willpower again.

And one last thing, the writer mentions people who learn foreign languages usually have a lot of willpower. So, congratulations!

    37In Paragraphs 2 & 3, the famous experiment explains ________.

Amore kids have strong willpower Bwillpower influences people’s lives greatly

Chow people train children’s willpower Dmarshmallows can help improve willpower

38What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 4 refer to?

    AHealth. BFoot. CWillpower. DStrength.

39The writer probably agrees that ________.

Aall the language learners have strong willpower

Bwillpower can’t be improved by doing some daily things

Cyoung kids don’t need to practise willpower like grown-ups

Dpeople with strong willpower can achieve their goals more easily

40According to the passage, people who ________ might have strong willpower.

Ado regular piano practice every day Bgive up morning running halfway

Ceat as much junk food as they like Dusually get up late on the cold morning

    三、阅读还原55

We’ve heard about several“poor students”in the past year. Cui Qingtao, a student from Yunnan, was working with his parents on a building site when he got an admission letter录取通知书41 She is a student from Hebei. She was doing her part-time job in another city when her family got her admission letter from Peking University.

42 For example, they are all strong and optimistic(乐观的). Li Enhui said in an interview,“ there are no problems that cannot be solved, and many people don’t have my experiences. 43 Such an idea makes many adults feel embarrassed. He refused to accept money that was given by others and decided to make money by himself. This is also the common thing that “poor students”have.

Such personalities(品格)are important for growth. 44 Not everything goes well all the time. A man can go through difficulties only when he is strong and optimistic. In fact, living in poor families doesn’t promise such good personalities, and living happily doesn’t mean optimistic attitudes(态度)45 That’s why they are highly praised. Every one of us should learn from them.

ALife is full of ups and downs .

BA girl named Wang Xinyi is another example.

CAnd these experiences made me grow and become better.

DBorn in poor families, these students have a lot in common.

E.However, all of them can choose their attitudes towards life.

    四、短文首字母填空

    请根据短文的内容,按照句子结构的语法性和上下文连贯的要求,在空格处填入一个适当的词,并注意使用该词的正确形式。

Recently, researchers studied more than 55,000 adults. This study lasted for 15 years. About one fourth of the adults reported running regularly. The study found it was n48 for adults to do energetic exercise for at least 150 minutes a week. In fact, the runners were l49 likely than non-runners to die of any form of disease and usually lived three years longer.

To stay healthy, doctors s50 that adults should run for good health and pay no attention to how far or how fast they run. As advertisements for the running shoes say, “Just do it.”
