Teaching aids: PPT, a tape player.4. Teaching procedures:StepsPurposeStep 1: RevisionA guessing game  Make an English riddle and let students guess what animal it is.  1. Get Ss to tell the different description of the animals.2. Arouse Ss’ enthusiasm of learning and taking part in this class. Step 2: Pre –reading ( Discussion) 1, Discuss the difficult situations the animals  are facing. 2, Discuss why the animals are in great danger , at the same time ,  present some key words  and phrases : save flag water danger be in (great) danger cut down tree kill ivory over be made of  Stimulate students to think actively and express their opinions.Let Ss learn the new words, phrases and   sentences of this period directly. Step 3 While-reading1, Read the passage quickly and tick the title .  (2b)2, Read the passage more carefully and complete the mind map.  (2c)3, Listen to the tape and imitate the intonation and pronunciation , meanwhile, underline some key phrases.   To train Ss’ reading ability by catching the key words and by making up a mind map.  Step 4 . Post- reading1, Let students try to retell the passage according to the mind map. 2, Discussion .   (1), What can you learn from the article ?(2), What should we do from now on ? 3, Sum up: How can we protect the animals?4, Let’s translate some proverbs (sayings).
