I entered adulthd thinking I wasn't “enugh”—an idea that was seeded nt nly by the fact that “skinny” is celebrated, but als by the language assciated with accunts f lsing weight—selfimprvement, discipline—all virtues. Being fat quickly categrizes yu as lazy and undisciplined. Cnsumed by thughts f the way my bdy lked, I didn't ntice the ther ways my bdy needed attentin. I failed t realize, fr example, that my perid was much heavier and mre painful than ever befre. Actually I develped a rare disease and later I had tw surgeries.
I was always made t feel that my weight was the rt f a lt f prblems in my life; I have learnt this is nt true. After a lt f selfreflectin and sme prfessinal help, I realized I never learnt t like myself. While tw decades f selfhatred cannt be undne vernight, I have taken first steps t acceptance.
I am nw much lighter than befre, in bdy and mind. There are days I find vices n scial media saying I am t fat t be lved r t be wrthy, but I am learning nt t fcus n that thught fr lng. As lng as I like myself, just the way I am, pinins at the end f the day are just water ff a duck's back.

The far side f the mn is a strange and wild regin, quite different frm the familiar and mstly smth face we see nightly frm ur planet. Sn this rugh space will have even stranger features: it will be crwded with radi telescpes.
Astrnmers are planning t make the mn's distant side ur newest and best windw n the csmic(宇宙的) dark ages, a mysterius era hiding early marks f stars and galaxies. Our universe was nt always filled with stars. Abut 380,000 years after the big bang, the universe cled, and the first atms f hydrgen frmed. Gigantic hydrgen cluds sn filled the universe. But fr a few hundred millin years, everything remained dark, withut stars. Then came the csmic dawn: the first stars flickered, galaxies came int existence and slwly the universe's largescale structure tk shape.
The seeds f this structure must have been present in the darkage hydrgen cluds, but the era has been impssible t prbe using ptical(光学的) telescpes—there was n light. And althugh this hydrgen prduced lngwavelength(r lwfrequency) radi emissins, radi telescpes n Earth have fund it nearly impssible t detect them. Our atmsphere either blcks r disturbs these faint signals; thse that get thrugh are drwned ut by humanity's radi nise.
Scientists have dreamed fr decades f studying the csmic dark ages frm the mn's far side. Nw multiple space agencies plan lunar missins carrying radiwavedetecting instruments—sme within the next three years—and astrnmers' dreams are set t becme reality.
“If__I__were__t__design__an__ideal__place__t__d__lwfrequency__radi__astrnmy,__I__wuld__have__t__build__the__mn,” says astrphysicist Jack Burns f the University f Clrad Bulder. “We are just nw finally getting t the place where we're actually ging t be putting these telescpes dwn n the mn in the next few years.”
    ( )28. What's the purpse f building radi telescpes n the mn?
    A. T research the big bang. B. T discver unknwn stars.

    B. they cannt pssibly get thrugh ur atmsphere
    C. gigantic hydrgen cluds n lnger fill the universe
    D. radi signals n Earth cause t much interference
( )31. What can we infer frm the underlined sentence in the last paragraph?
    A. Scientists have t rebuild the mn.
    B. We will finally get t the mn's distant side.

Imprvements t energy efficiency, such as LED lights, are seen by many authrities as a tp pririty fr cutting carbn emissins. Yet a grwing bdy f research suggests that a rebund effect culd wipe ut mre than half f the savings frm energy efficiency imprvements, making the gals f the Paris Agreement n climate change even harder t hit.
A team led by Paul Brckway at the University f Leeds, UK, lked at the existing 33 studies n the impact f the rebund effect. First cmes the direct rebund: fr instance, when smene buys a mre efficient car, they may take advantage f that by driving it further. Then cmes the indirect rebund: fuel savings leave the wner with mre mney t spend elsewhere in the ecnmy, cnsuming energy.
Althugh the 33 studies used different methds t mdel the rebund effect, they prduced very cnsistent estimates f its impact, leading the team t cnclude that the effect wipes ut, n average, 63 percent f the anticipated energy savings.
“We're nt saying energy efficiency desn't wrk. What we're saying is rebund needs t be taken mre seriusly,” says Brckway.
The idea that increased efficiency may nt deliver the hpedfr savings dates back t the Jevns paradx(悖论), named after the ecnmist William Stanley Jevns, wh, in 1865,bserved that mre efficient cal use led t mre demand fr cal.
If the rebund effect des prve t be as big as suggested, it means future glbal energy demand will be higher than expected and the wrld will need far mre wind and slar pwer and carbncapture technlgy than is currently being planned fr.
But that desn't mean nthing can be dne t limit the rebund effect. One answer is t duble dwn n energy efficiency and d twice as much t achieve the same effect.
( )32. Which f the fllwing is a rebund effect?
    A. A man uses LED lights t cut carbn emissins.
    B. A cmpany uses cal mre efficiently t reduce waste.
    C. A family saves mney by using energysaving devices.
    D. A lady spends savings frm her fuel efficient car n mre clthes.
( )33. Hw did Paul Brckway's team carry ut their research?
    A. By interviewing ecnmists.
    B. By analyzing frmer studies.
    C. By mdeling the rebund effect.
    D. By debating abut the Jevns paradx.
( )34. What wuld Paul Brckway prbably agree with?
    A. Authrities shuld dismiss energy efficiency.
    B. Wrldwide effrts t preserve energy are in vain.
    C. The rebund effect helps prtect the envirnment.
    D. Mre attentin shuld be paid t the rebund effect.
( )35. What's the authr's attitude twards limiting the rebund effect?
    A. Psitive. B. Pessimistic. C. Dubtful. D. Disapprving.

    Text 6

M: I was late fr schl thugh.
W: Yu need t be mre careful when yu crss the street. Yu need t walk during the right time and in the right places.
    M: But I'm very fast.
W: Are yu even listening t me? It is dangerus. It is als against the law.
M: But I hate waiting fr the lights t change and the cars t pass by. I dn't want t be late.
W: It is imprtant t bey the rules, but yur safety is mre imprtant. I dn't want t see anyne f my students get hurt.
    Text 7
W: Srry, Jim. I wn't be able t make it t the dinner tmrrw night. I'll be busy vlunteering at the library during that time.
M: That's interesting, Carl. Mst peple I knw vlunteer by cllecting garbage r smething. What d yu d at the library when yu vlunteer? Are they shrt n emplyees wh put away bks?
W: Nthing like that. I just read the children's bks and act ut sme f the stries fr them. It's very fun and it desn't take lng, maybe ne r tw hurs.
    M: Hw ften d yu d that?
W: I d it n Mnday, Wednesday and Friday every week. Yu shuld cme help me with it ne time.
M: That sunds like fun. Can I pick the stries I want t read? I hate t try and act ut a stry I never read.
W: Yu can read any bk as lng as it's n the library's list.
    Text 8
M: I was reading abut superfds tday. They are fruits, vegetables and ther fds that are suppsed t be extra healthy.
W: That's interesting. Which fds are they? I suppse rice is high n the list. We certainly eat a lt f that here in China.
M: N, it isn't. Nr are ndles. But ygurt, fish and tmates are there.
W: Oh well, I suppse we eat plenty f them. Why are these fds s healthy?
M: It's said that they can reduce the risks f high bld pressure, heart disease and certain cancers.
W: Maybe I will start including them in ur meals. Are there any fds n the list that we dn't have yet?
M: Nuts and greens are smething we already eat plenty f. And althugh ur type f rice—the white kind—isn't n the list, brwn rice is.
W: Then I think we will switch t that t keep the family healthy. Superfds sund like a very tasty way t keep fit.
    Text 9
M: I can't believe this. I have been n the phne with my bank all day and they still haven't fixed my prblem.
W: Is it a credit card prblem?
M: Yes. My credit card infrmatin was stlen. When I gt my bill in the mail, I saw there were many unfamiliar purchases n it.
W: That's terrible. Did they take a lt f mney?
M: Yes, and I am very upset because the bank is nt helping me quickly. I have talked t many different managers already.
W: Desn't the bank's wner need t make the decisin t give yu yur mney back?
M: N. I just have t prve that these purchases were nt made by me.
W: I hpe yu can fix this prblem sn. Smething similar happened t my husband's mther recently. She was tricked int giving away sme imprtant infrmatin ver the phne.
M: I think the persn wh stle my infrmatin gt it frm the Internet. I bught a cllectin f mvies recently. I wn't be ding that again unless the website is sure t be safe. It's hnestly my fault fr being careless.
W: Yu can never be t careful. Well, yur prblem is inspiring me t lk int prtecting my accunt better. I think I can pay my bank mre t help me.
    Text 10

I dn't want t wait fr yu t search fr ther clthes r t unpack yur bag t get smething. Our flight is at 7:00 am, and it will take abut a half hur t get t the airprt frm here. We'll prbably need anther hur t get thrugh security. Als, I knw I said that we wuld g ut fr ur meal tnight, but there is just t much t d. I asked yur father t pick up sme Chinese fd fr dinner instead. I can't be bthered t ck smething since I just cleaned everything. If yu want a specific dish at the restaurant, yu will need t call yur father. Otherwise, he will just pick up smething that we can all share. Are yu clear n everything I said?
