    Rbts are ne step clser t gaining a human sense: tuch. Scientists published an artificial skin that makes rbts feel and respnd t physical cntact, a skill that will be needed as they cme in increasingly clse cntact with peple.
    In 2017, rbt-makers wrldwide used ver 85 industrial rbts every 10,000 wrkers, accrding t a reprt. The reprt predicts the glbal supply f industrial rbts t grw 14% every year until 2021. But if rbts end up wrking mre clsely with their c-wrkers, ne wrry is hw they will wrk tgether safely.
    “Nwadays, rbts d nt have any sense f tuch,” says Prfessr Grdn Cheng, wh develped the special skin with his team at the Technical University f Munich.
    T develp the artificial skin, the researchers began by studying humans. Each persn has abut 5 millin skin receptrs ( 接受器) that sense what’s happening n the bdy’s surface and send signals t the brain. But the brain
    can’t deal with infrmatin frm each ne at the same time. Instead, the nervus system deals with new senses at first. Cpying this, the team cvered a human-size autnmus ( 自动的) rbt with mre than 13,000 sensrs, which are able t test temperature and pressure.

Hwever, Dyle says that these technlgies are still a lng way frm actual uses in the field, and that making sure f the safety f humans will cme first.
