In the film Forrest Gump, there's a famous saying: 'Lift is like a box of chocolate; you never know what you're gonna get.” It’s the same with blind boxes.
Each of these small boxes contains one of many toy figures in a series. The buyer doesn't know which figure they've gotten until they open the packaging. Blind boxes can be traced back (追溯到) to lucky bags sold in Japan from the late 1860s. In recent years it becomes big business in China.
During the Double 11 shopping day, Pop Mart, a leading blind box company in China, sold 55,000 Labubu dolls on Tmall in just 9 seconds, according to a Tmall report.
One reason for their popularity is the attractive appearance of the figures inside the boxes. They're like tiny cartoon characters. They can be placed anywhere in your home as a decoration. But another, perhaps more important reason people like them is the fun of being surprised.
"The most interesting thing about blind boxes is the gap between what you expect and what you get,” said Wen Xi, a blind box collector from Beijing. The excitement of getting the exact figure you want is like winning a lottery(彩票).
While the boxes are certainly entertaining to some, others worry that children might spend too much money on these toys.
"The blind box economy takes advantage of gambling psychology” said Liu Chunsheng, an associate professor at Central University of Finance and Economics. “Young people tend to look for the excitement brought by uncertainty and higher risks, which leads to impulse buying (冲动消费).”
Last year, over 200,000 Chinese customers spent more than 2,000 yuan collecting blind boxes.most of them were Generation Z, or those born after 1995,according to a report by Tmall.

If I’ve learned one thing last year, it's that there is so much out of my control. And the other thing I’ve learned is that it's important that I “control” the one thing I can: me - how I see things, what I think, what 1 say and what I do. That is in my control, and it's in my best interest to do my best to show up as my beat self.
One way I've found to do that, as William Feather suggests, is to look upon life as an adventure.
Clearly,if my life is full enough that I can have my memoir(回忆录)published, then my life has certainly been interesting. I’ve learned that I have a choice whether I look at my interesting life as a series of hardships and challenges, or as an adventure.

Drug development is a risky and costly business. Many possibly effective drugs fail to cut the mustard during the experiments. One reason is that drugs which work on lab animals may not work quite so well in human tests. Being able to pick winners and losers as early as possible would save money, and the One Health Company thinks it may have found a way. It is offering to help medical groups test their cancer drugs on sick pets.
There are several benefits. By treating animals with cancers, it hopes to avoid a problem with modem animal research, which is that the “model" animals and diseases that are used to test drugs , are not always good stand-ins(替身) for the natural illness. For example, mice used to test cancer drugs may have had their tumours(肿瘤)placed into their bodies, or their immune systems weakened with drugs. .
Another benefit is that pet owners tend to be great caretakers who are very knowledgeable about their four-legged friends and are likely to report even small changes in behaviors. Lab animals are checked far less often.
Perhaps the most useful benefit of using pets for drug experiments, however, is that there is no law on animals’ medical records. One Health has been able to get 98% of records on animals from hospitals-a number that is impossible for humans. That allows the company to find the night animals for a drug experiment.
Based on the benefits above,the company hopes that pets will prove useful in other diseases besides cancers.Horses, for example, seem to be good stand-ins for humans when it comes to arthritis(关节炎). Cats,meanwhile,may prove instructive in breast cancer research.

I recently gave up driving. I passed my test last year, but I stopped voluntarily when I turned
90. I thought that it was finally the right time.
Needless to say, my family was relieved (解脱的) - they didn't have to have“that talk”with

The most effective way of developing your taste in English prose(散文)is to read widely.Yet
you may have trouble choosing the proper books, especially as a beginner. I'd like to share my
experience.
My first English novel was Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, recommended by many English teachers.But I understood the novel with difficulty, let alone enjoying it. It's not the vocabulary that troubled me,but the way Austen composed sentences, and her way of thinking,which seemed beyond me.Hemingway's novel Farewell to Arms.without long and difficult sentences met my interest.And 1 particularly liked his style. However, reading novels is not the only way. If you limit yourself to novels, you will miss a lot of treasures.English essays can entertain you, and improve your taste in English. The best example is Russell's work. Its language is plain yet you cannot help feeling the elegance(优雅)and the special sense of humor.His simple language enables his ideas within the reach of common people.Here comes my second suggestion-essays are necessary.
Last,never follow others' recommendations and opinions blindly,however, famous or
influential the person might be.Once I read Maugham's autobiography(自传) The Summing up.
Though I admire Maugham's prose, I cannot agree with his view. Probably one can regard
Johnson's work as pretentious(自命不凡的),but definitely not Gibbon's. In fact, his style makes his works highly readable, and you can hardly believe they were written over 200 years ago. Therefore,we should be open to various ideas, but always think and decide for ourselves. As a saying goes,one man's meat is another man's poison. With that in mind, we can surely find our favorite writers through reading and develop our taste in English.
