Fr the study, mre than 400 students were asked t finish a set f 20 wrd puzzles. Halfway thugh the task, the students were divided int three grups. One grup was allwed t take a break and use cellphnes t buy things nline. The secnd grup was asked t have a rest and buy things using a cmputer. The last grup didn’t take any break at all.
Surprisingly, the grup that used their cellphnes during the break went back t wrk feeling the mst tired and least mtivated t cntinue. They als had the hardest time slving the remaining wrd puzzles.
Terri Kurtzberg, c-authr f the study, explained that they assumed lking at cellphnes during a break wuld be n different frm any ther break-but instead, the phne may cause increasing levels f distractin(分心)that make it difficult t return fcused attentin t wrk tasks.
