Dear Lucy,
I am Li Hua, one of the students who chose yor video lessons. Here i am writing with the purpose of expression my sincere gratitude from the bottom of my heart.
During the first half of this year, you taught many practical learning skills in your video lessons. I made great progress in English, especially the pronunciation. I don’t know what my English would be like without your patient help. Last week, i took part in the English speech competition which was held by our school. And to my great joy, i won the first. And the judges spoke highly of my speech, saying that my pronunciation sounded like a native. How proud I am!
Thank you so much, dear Lucy. I do wish you all the best.
Yours,
Li Hua

W: I’m confident about the test tomorrow. I didn’t stay up all night for nothing.
M: Well, I hope you can stay awake during the whole thing.

M: Well, Mrs. Brown, what seems to be the problem with little David?
W: He went to the park after school yesterday. Then he started to cough.
M: Let me give him a checkup. Take off his coat, please.
Text 3
W: What about going to a movie this weekend, Henry?
M: Sorry, Lisa, but I’m going to Lake Cumberland this weekend. It’s the largest lake in Kentucky.
W: I know that. It is a major travel destination in the region.
Text 4
W: Mike, I heard your car was being repaired yesterday.
M: Yes. Actually it’s still being repaired today.
W: So did you come to work by subway this morning?
M: I planned to call a taxi, but Tom offered me a lift. His office is in the building across the street.
Text 5
W: So where will you stay visiting Niagara Falls?
M: Sheraton. It has summer rates starting at $161 with an indoor swimming pool that’s the largest
in the area, and is within walking distance to many of the top attractions.
W: It really sounds like a great place to stay at.
Text 6
W: Hello. Business Center. This is Christine speaking. How may I help you?
M: I’m in the main conference room and I’ve got a bit of a problem. I’ve connected my computer
to the video projector, and the Internet also seems to be working, ⑥but at this speed I won’t be
able to give my presentation. I need a faster connection.
W: ⑦I’ll call the technician, sir.
M: Thank you. And ask him to come immediately. I’m getting nervous. The presentation will
begin in half an hour.
W: ⑦I’ll get him to come in 10 minutes, sir.
M: That’ll be good. Thanks for your help.

M: Karen, I heard you’re looking for work. ⑧What about teaching physics in my school? We’re
3
looking for some physics teachers now.
W: Are you kidding me? I don’t have a physics degree or physics education. How can I do this job
well?
M: Well, it’s really hard to find physics teachers in the state now. Don’t you know that many high
school physics teachers in the US don’t have a physics degree or physics education? ⑧Two of my
colleagues have no physics degree, either.
W: Really? That’s hard to believe. ⑨But I’d rather do something else, though I love teaching. I
don’t think people without a physics degree or physics education should teach this subject.
M: I guess you’re right. But it’s really a big problem in our country now. I hope more people will
be educated to become physics teachers.
W: Me, too.
Text 8
W: Mark, do you know where the world’s oldest amusement park is located?
M: Isn’t it in the United States?
W: No. And it doesn’t sit in the UK, either. ⑩It’s called Bakken and is located in Denmark.
M: So when was it opened?
W: It was opened in 1583. The first attraction was actually all-natural. ⑪The area is home to a
natural spring, which was so clean that attracted many people in the early 16th century. Then more
and more people came there to chat and play games. Also, lots of entertainers gave their best shows.
M: Sounds great! It seems that it was so popular.
W: Yes, but it was not always like that. ⑫During the region of the royal family, it became a closed
area to the public.
M: It’s a pity!
W: But, luckily, under the leadership of King Frederick V, it was developed and reopened to the
public in the 18th century. That’s when more performers, businessmen, and rides slowly took over.
M: Is it still open?
W: Yes. It is still open today with different roller coasters, Ferris wheels, and other rides. Shall we
visit it one day?
M: Sounds great.

W: ⑬Welcome to our program, Mr. Evans. So what did you dream of doing in the past?
4
M: Well, ⑭I’ve always been passionate about the power of sports to change lives, particularly for
kids, but I never had the resources to turn my dream into reality before 2017.
W: What allowed you to realize your dream in 2017?
M: ⑮I won a contest put on by Sam’s Club that year. The Walmart giant was looking for ideas for
ways to help the local community, and I was the winner for my idea for a sports club that would
work with local schools to help improve kids’ physical and mental health.
W: So what was the prize?
M: ⑯The prize was a $1, 000 gift card plus $25, 000 to put toward the business.
W: So how did you use the money?
M: I used the money to co-found the Competitive Edge Athletic Performance Center, and the Dale
City “Lightning” Track Club. I can develop sports training for kids through them.
W: I want to say the real winners are the kids. Well, Mr. Evans, I want to thank you for doing all
that for the kids. And thank you again for sharing your story with us.
M: The honor is all mine.
Text 10
W: In July, 2017, researchers from the Norwegian Polar Institute placed a tracking collar on a
young arctic fox believed to be less than one year old. ⑰The collar allowed them to use a satellite
to track the fox no matter where she went. Until March 24, 2018, the fox stayed on the island of
Spitzenberg. Then, suddenly, on March 26, she left the island, traveling across the sea ice. Just 21
days and about 940 miles later, she arrived in Greenland. From Greenland, ⑱she carried on, and
finally reached Ellesmere Island in Canada on July 1, traveling over 2,175 miles in total. Scientists
shows that it’s the longest journey the arctic fox has ever made. In fact, ⑲it was probably the
moving sea ice that helped the fox travel so quickly on some of the days that she covered great
distances. However, scientists are not sure what happened to the fox. ⑳Its tracking collar stopped
working in February, 2019. So they don’t know the fate of the recorder-setting arctic fox.
