JeffBezs has a rule at Amazn, r perhaps mre apprpriate a philsphy. If a team cannt be fed by tw pizzas then that team is t large. The reasning is quite straightfrward and basic. Mre peple means mre cmmunicatin, mre bureaucracy, mre chas, and mre f pretty much everything that slws things dwn, hence why large rganizatins are ftentimes cnsidered as being s inefficient.
In 2013 Gallup released a reprt called “The State f The American Wrkplace”, in which they fund that smaller cmpanies had mre engaged emplyees. In fact, 42% f emplyees wrking at cmpanies f 10 r fewer were engaged at wrk versus nly 30% f emplyees at large cmpanies.
Mst peple are nt familiar with the Ringelmann Effect which is the tendency fr individual members t becme less prductive as the size f a grup increases. This cncept was named after Maximilien Ringelmann, a French prfessr f agricultural engineering wh passed away in 1931. In ne f his experiments he asked vlunteers t perfrm a very simple task, t pull n a rpe. He fund that when nly ne persn is pulling n the rpe they give 100% f their effrt; hwever, as mre peple are added the individual effrt ges dwn.
This experiment was recreated in the 1970’s by Alan Ingham wh came up with the cncept f “scial lafing” which helps us understand why the individual effrt decreases as the team size increases. S why des this happen? Because it becmes harder t extract the individual cntributins and perfrmance f each persn.
Organizatins shuld really think abut what their team structures lk like and create and fllw similar “tw pizza rules”. It’s n cincidence that smaller rganizatins are ftentimes mre nimble while large rganizatins lk like they are stuck in the mud.
    24. What is the authr’s purpse f mentining “tw pizza rules” in paragraph 1?
    A. T make a cmment.B. T intrduce the tpic.

    B. It was based n a simple task f pulling a rpe.
    C. It aimed t explre the reasn behind the phenmenn.
    D. It revealed the link between team size and individual effrt.
    26. Which f the fllwing wrds can replace the underlined wrd “nimble” in the last paragraph?
    A. Balanced. B. Cmplicated. C. Simple. D. Flexible.
    27. What can be a suitable title fr the text?
    A. What Makes a Team Mre Prductive?
    B. Why Are Smaller Teams Better Than Larger Ones?
    C. Hw Can Tw Pizzas Be Shared by One Team?
    D. Which Is Mre Imprtant: Individual Effrt r Team Size?
    C
Experts studying the state f the Australian reef system—ne f the seven natural wnders f the wrld—reprted that it is disappearing faster than thught.
“We fund the number f small, medium and large crals n the Great Barrier Reef has declined by mre than 50 percent during the s-called bleaching episdes(白化期)since the 1990s,” said Terry Hughes f the University f Queensland, Australia. “The decline ccurred in bth shallw and deeper water and acrss nearly all species—but especially in branching and table-shaped crals.”
Branching and table-shaped crals prvide build structures n the reef that are imprtant fr ther sea life, such as fish. Their lss is reducing ppulatin sizes and sea fd prductivity. When cean temperatures are t high, crals drive away their clrful symbitic algae(共生藻类)that prvide them with fd—turning them a bleached white. If the cean cls quickly enugh, the algae can return. But if it stays t ht fr t lng, the crals begin t starve.
“Bth small and large reefs have becme increasingly rare,” said paper authr Andy Dietzel f Queensland’s ARC Centre f Excellence fr Cral Reef Studies. “This indicates declines in reprductin, recvery ptential f cral ppulatins.”
The Great Barrier Reef cnsists f mre than 2,900 individual reefs and sme 900 islands—and is bigger than the entirety f the UK. The natural wnder is hme t arund 1,625 species f fish and 30 different types f whale and dlphin.
“We used t think the Great Barrier Reef was prtected by its size,” cmmented Prfessr Hughes. “But ur results shw even the wrld’s largest and relatively well-prtected reef system is increasingly cmprmised and in decline.”
    28. What can we learn abut the bleaching episdes frm the passage?

    B. Crals will never cme back t life nce bleached.
    C. Reefs have increased in Australia with climate change.

It was primarily built t hst bxing events, s the seating was nt suitable fr ther sprts.Eventually, that t was trn dwn.(19) And in 1968, the current Madisn Square Garden was built, which has cst at least ne billin dllars ver the years. Many memrable mments have played ut at “The Garden” in its amazing histry. American rck-and-rll legend Elvis Presley gave perfrmances in 1972.
    Passage A.
根据第一段第三行 “Bb was wrrying abut this when he switched n the BBC news. ”及第四行“Images f hungry children and crying mthers” 可知Gedlf是通过BBC电视新闻了解到尔塞俄比亚的饥荒的。干扰项为B,错在“n the radi”。
根据倒数第二段“Sme peple bught extra cpies, and gave them away r dnated them back t resell.”
根据第二段第二行“Deeply upset and saddened by the reprt, Geldf decided t d smething abut it using the language f pp music.”
    Passage B
    本文主题为“人与自我”,通过一个实验报告“The State f The American Wrkplace”和两个实验“the Ringelmann Effect Experiment”和 “scial lafing”说明 “team size”和 “individual effrt”之间的关系,以及背后的原因。
根据第一段最后一行“hence why large rganizatins are ftentimes cnsidered as being s inefficient.”
根据倒数第二段第一行“This experiment was recreated in the 1970's by Alan Ingham”和第三行“S why des this happen?”可知Alan Ingham’s experiment不是对于the Ringelmann Effect experiment的简单重复,而是进一步探究了背后的原因,因此得出A选项错误,C选项正确;根据第三段第四行“In ne f his experiments he asked vlunteers t perfrm a very simple task, t pull n a rpe. ”可知pulling a rpe是the Ringelmann Effect experiment的实验内容,因此排除;D选项是两个实验共同的内容,并不是Alan Ingham’s experiment的特殊之处,因此排除;正确选项为C。
D词义猜测题。从最后一段的 “It's n cincidence that smaller rganizatins are ftentimes mre nimble while large rganizatins lk like they are stuck in the mud.”
根据第一段最后一行“hence why large rganizatins are ftentimes cnsidered as being s inefficient.”和最后一段的最后一句“It's n cincidence that smaller rganizatins are ftentimes mre nimble while large rganizatins lk like they are stuck in the mud.”
    Passage C
根据第二段第三行“The decline ccurred in bth shallw and deeper water and acrss nearly all species”尤其是“nearly”可知该现象影响的是将近全部珊瑚物种,而不是all,排除A选项;根据第三段第三行“If the cean cls quickly enugh, the algae can return.”可知温度回降快的话共生藻类可以恢复,排除B;根据第四段第一行“Bth small and large reef have becme increasingly rare”尤其是“rare”可知大型和小型珊瑚礁都在减少,要注意不要被“increasingly”干扰,排除C;根据倒数第二段第二行“The natural wnder is hme t arund 1,625 species f fish and 30 different types f whale and dlphin.”
根据最后一段“But ur results shw even the wrld’s largest and relatively well-prtected reef system is increasingly cmprmised and in decline.”
