N ne ever said science educatin was easy. Certainly the cncepts we teach, like cnservatin f mmentum (动量守恒) r quantum mechanics (量子力学), can be hard t grasp. But what really makes ur teaching cmplicated is that we’ re als trying t teach a deeper lessn at the same time — t help students understand the nature f science itself.
All t ften, yung peple get the impressin that science is abut learning certain “laws” and then applying them t different situatins. After all, that’s what we make them d n tests, t shw that they’ve been ding the wrk. But that’s nt it at all. Science is the prcess f building these cncepts thrugh the cllectin f experimental evidence.
And while I’m n it, let’s call these cncepts what they really are — nt laws, but mdels. Science is all abut building and testing mdels. It’s difficult t help students understand that aspect f science when we just give them the mdels t begin with. Sure, in physics we ften include histrical r mathematical evidence t supprt big ideas, but that ften isn’t enugh.
Of curse, we can’t start frm scratch. If students had t build their wn mdels frm the grund up, it wuld be like trying t learn prgramming by inventing cmputers. As Isaac Newtn is suppsed t have said, we stand n the shulders f giants. We must take mdels built by thers and g frm there.
What I’d like t suggest is that this actually prvides a great way int the adventure f science and an pprtunity t meet ur bjectives as educatrs. If yu can create a situatin that challenges students’ assumptins and prduces cnceptual cnflict, that’s a great pprtunity fr learning.
    28. What is the misunderstanding f teaching science?
    A. It’s cmplicated.B.It fcuses n the nature f science.
    C. It’s very difficult.D. It lies in teaching and testing “laws”.
    29. Which way t teach science is highly recmmended by the authr?
    A. Encuraging students t start frm scratch.
    B. Prviding students with right mdels t fllw suit.
    C. Guiding students t begin with mdels built by thers.
    D. Offering studentsprf t supprt imprtantcncepts.
    30. The authr cites Isaac Newtn’s wrds t ___________.
    A. justify the experimentB. praise the statement
    C. shw the achievementD. supprt the argument
    31. What is the best title f the passage?
    A. Science teachingB. Cncept cnflicting
    C. Science learningD. Cncept building
    D

It’s imprtant t take bullying seriusly and nt just brush it ff as smething that kids have t tlerate. The effects can be serius and affect kids’ sense f safety and self-wrth. In severe cases, bullying has cntributed t tragedies, such as suicides and schl shtings.
Kids bully fr a variety f reasns. Smetimes they pick n kids because they need a victim—smene wh seems emtinally r physically weaker, r just acts r appears different in sme way—t feel mre imprtant, ppular, r in cntrl. Althugh sme bullies are bigger r strnger than their victims, that’s nt always the case.
Smetimes kids trment thers because that’s the way they’ve been treated. They may think their behavir is nrmal because they cme frm families r ther settings where everyne regularly gets angry and shuts r calls each ther names. Sme ppular TV shws even seem t prmte meanness—peple are “vted ff”, ignred, r ridiculed fr their appearance r lack f talent.
Unless yur child tells yu abut bullying—r has visible injuries—it can be difficult t figure ut if it’s happening.
    32. What is the authr’s purpse f telling Seth’s stry?
    A. T intrduce the tpic. B. T raise public cncern.
    C. T analyse the cause.D. T display harmful effects.
