I took a motor rickshaw to the train station in the city of Belapur. The driver didn't speak much English, but understood "Belapur Railway Station”. I had my tabla, a traditional drum from India, my suitcase with my clothes and other essentials. The feeling of flying by cars in this little machine is: as if you are inside a box with tiny wheels, dashing through terrible traffic.

I arrived at the station safely, and took a heavy breath as I unloaded my baggage before the ticket office. It was the first time that I had taken a train in India. I wanted to go to Tilak Nagar, where I was going to learn traditional vocal music. Standing in line, I counted at least 20 people staring at me. I bought my ticket, which was only 55 cents for a 20-minute train ride. The prices still blow me away.

When the train came after 15 minutes or so, I got on with all speed, as the train only stop for a few seconds. The locals again stared at me. This was a train especially for local transport

After a while, a young man asked me if he could talk to me. He wanted to know if I was in a band. I stated no, but I love to play the tabla. Through the conversation I knew he was a student of engineering with his exams being tomorrow--I wished him good luck for the exam sincerely, as I know what it means to Indian students to get good marks on their exams. If students do not get good enough scores, job opportunities will be few in a highly-competitive environment.

The student I met helped me unload my luggage as the train reached Tilak Nagar Station. He shook my hand strongly and looked into my eyes with marks of genuine care and friendship, despite us meeting for only 20 minutes.

24.Which word can best describe the motor rickshaw?

    A.fast B.comfortable

    C.safe D.slow

25.Why did so many people stare at the author at the station?

A.Because he was carrying a strange instrument.

B.Because his suitcase was too large for him.

C.Because he was a foreigner to the local people.

D.Because he couldn't understand what they said.

26.What do we know about the young man mentioned in the passage?

A.He wanted to learn to play tabla from the author.

B.He was a student on the way to a university.

C.He was a genuine and helpful university student.

D.He wished to find a job in Tilak Nagar.

27.What can be the best title for the text?

A.Traveling Is the Most Memorial Time B.A Warm-hearted Indian Student I Met

C.I Learn to Play the Tabla in India D.My First Train Travel in India

    C

The bad health effects of sleep loss during the week can’t be repaid by longer weekend sleep, according to a new study.

Researchers have long known that sleep deprivation (剥夺) can cause weight gain and increase other health risks. But for those who force themselves out of bed every weekday after too few hours of shut eye, they hope turning off the alarm on Saturday and Sunday will repay the weekly sleep debt and remove any ill effects.

The research, published in Current Biology, crushes those hopes. Despite complete freedom to sleep during a weekend recovery period, people in a sleep lab who were limited to five hours of sleep on weekdays gained nearly three pounds over two weeks and experienced disorders that would increase their risk for diabetes over the long term. While weekend recovery sleep had some benefits after a single week of sleep loss, those gains were wiped out when people fell right back into their same sleep deprived schedule the next Monday.

''If there are benefits of catch-up sleep, they're gone when you go back to your daily schedule. It's very short lived'', said Kenneth Wright, director of the sleep and chronobiology lab at the University of Colorado at Boulder. ''These health effects are long term. It's kind of like smoking once was-people would smoke and wouldn't see an immediate effect on their health, but people will say now that smoking is not a healthy lifestyle choice. I think sleep is in the early stage of where smoking used to be.''

Wright said that the study suggests people should put sleep in the first place cutting out the ''sleep stealers'' such as watching television shows or spending time on their phones. Even when people don't have a choice about losing sleep because of child-care responsibilities or job schedules, they should think about getting sleep in the same way they would get a healthy diet or exercise.

28.What does the underlined word 'c'rushes'' mean?

    A.Ruins. B.Guarantees.

    C.Deepens. D.Arouses.

29.What will Kenneth Wright agree with?

A.Smoking is more harmful than sleep loss.

B.Weekend recovery sleep has many benefits.

C.Smoking and sleep loss have the same bad effects.

D.It takes long for people to see the effects of sleep loss.

30.What does Kenneth Wright advise people to do?

    A.Take regular exercise every day.

B.Reduce the screen time before sleep.

C.Watch some TV shows before bedtime.

D.Sleep as long as possible during weekdays.

31.What is the main purpose of this passage?

A.To share some unhappy experiences. B.To show some unknown facts.

C.To promote a healthy lifestyle. D.To introduce a new study.

    D

Blind imitation is self-destruction. To those who do not recognize their unique worth, imitation appears attractive; to those who know their strength, imitation is unacceptable.

In the early stages of skill or character development, imitation is helpful. When I first learned to cook, I used recipes and turned out some tasty dishes. But soon I grew bored. Why follow someone else’s way of cooking when I could create my own? Imitating  role models is like using training wheels on a child’s bicycle; they help you get going, but once you find your own balance, you fly faster and farther without relying on them.

In daily life, imitation can hurt us if we subconsciously hold poor role models. If, as a child, you observed people whose lives were bad, you may have accepted their fear and pain as normal and gone on to follow what they did. If you do not make strong choices for yourself, you will get the results of the weak choices of others.

In the field of entertainment, our culture glorifies celebrities. Those stars look great on screen. But when they step off screen, their personal lives may be disastrous. If you are going to follow someone, focus on their talent, not their bad character or unacceptable behaviors.

Blessed is the person willing to act on their sudden desire to create something unique. Think of the movies, books, teachers, and friends that have affected you most deeply. They touched you because their creations were motivated by inspiration, not desperation. The world is changed not by those who do what has been done before them, but by those who do what has been done inside them. Creative people have an endless resource of ideas. The problem a creator faces is not running out of material; it is what to do with all the material knocking at the door of imagination.

Study your role models, accept the gifts they have given, and leave behind what does not serve you. Then you can say, “I stand on the shoulders of my ancestors’ tragedies and declare victory, and know that they are cheering me on.”

32.To avoid the bad result of imitation, we should _______.

A.stay away from stars B.forget daily fear and pain

C.choose the right example D.ask others for decisions

33.According to the author, the world moves on because of those who are _______.

A.desperate to influence others with their knowledge B.eager to discover what their ancestors did

C.willing to accept others’ ideas D.ready to turn their original ideas into reality

    34.The trouble a creator faces is _______.

A.how to use imagination creatively B.the lack of strong motivation

C.how to search for more materials D.the absence of practical ideas

35.What is the author’s purpose in writing this passage?

A.To compare imitation with creation. B.To highlight the importance of creativity.

C.To criticize the characters of role models. D.To explain the meaning of success.

How to Write a Travel Blog

A travel blog produces interest in people for visiting the new places. 36 A blog owner might identify a place, such as travel locations within a small region of a country, or broaden the scope to include countries across the globe. Writing a travel blog requires recording notes and observations, taking pictures and talking to local people while traveling. Here are a few tips for writing a travel blog.

First of all, you must visit various places so that you can teach your visitors about these locations. Visitors of your site want an eye-catching text such that they feel as if they are at the place you’re describing.

37 Protect the reliability of your travel blog by proving all facts. Write down directions as you travel to various locations so that you can provide accurate information to readers. Provide the correct spelling of towns, people, restaurants and streets. Call phone numbers and visit website links before publishing to verify accuracy.

38 As you travel, write down your impressions. After a memorable dining experience, for example, write down the name of the restaurant, the dish you ordered, its ingredients and the details of the decor and music.

You must add people’s interview during the journey. 39 The scent of rare flowers, the beautiful view from a mountain top, the feel of soft towels in a high-end hotel, and the sound of a waterfall are examples of descriptions that help people to connect immediately with a place or experience.

Take pictures. To help people see things with their own eyes, take pictures of all locations about which you wish to write. Local cuisines, landmarks, traditional clothing and scenic locations are possible examples. 40

Respond to readers’ comments. Blogs typically allow you to accept or disable comments. Allowing comments is an opportunity to build rapport with readers and answer questions.

    A. Keep a travel journal.

    B. Record events on videos.

    C. Provide correct facts.

    D. Ask for submissions from other travelers.

    E. Visiting gives mental satisfaction to all people.

    F. Use the senses when writing about locations.

    G. Take photos, posting the clearest and most bright pictures.
