When I was a boy, our extended, immigrant family would sometimes gather at my aunt's tiny house over the summer. Relatives from all over the country would come in to visit. The adults would crowd together in the living room to talk and catch up on each other’s lives. And the kids would be sent out into the front yard to play when dinner was slowly cooked for all of us.
Those were the days before video games, smart phones, and motorized toys, so we often ended up playing an old game. I remember one of those moments especially. As T was the youngest and smallest of all the kids there, I got caught first and couldn't catch anyone else. My brothers and cousins were all too fast for me, and I grew more and more frustrated. I finally fell my face first into the dirt. I got up with tears forming in my)eyes. Then l saw one of my female cousins Susan standing there. She started to run but was going much slower than before. I easily caught up and seized her. Then she turned to me, smiled, and said, “I’m it. You"d better run! I ran off laughing with glee while she turned and started to chase others.
Now I see how her act of kindness that day saved me from sadness and returned me to joy. It didn't matter that we hardly ever saw each other. I know we are family and she loves me.
In her wonderful book: Box of Butterflies, Roma Downey writes, We are all one, we all belong to each other, and we are one big, beautiful family." Perhaps it is time that we ail started to treat each other that way. Perhaps it is time that we shared our love, our kindness, our laughter, and our joy with everyone without fear. Perhaps it is time to finally and forever bring this world together in one big family reunion.

Being "young" is associated with all the good things in life -- beauty, hope and energy. But youth also has negative associations --- impulsiveness, trouble-making and irresponsibility. This negative side seems to be what society focuses on more, which is why young people have mostly been considered as idle and difficult.
But when it comes to Generation Z -- those born between 1996 and 2010 -- this stereotype doesn’t seem to apply anymore.
In Japan, for example, Gen Z-ers are less likely to buy on impulse, but take into consideration more a producer’s true value. “They’re looking at the companies, not just the products,” Masahiko Uotani, CEO of Japanese cosmetics company Shiseido, told Bloomberg. “They’re asking, ‘Are they really delivering value to the society? Are they promoting diversity and inclusion?’”
Gen Z-ers are also more grounded than we’ve expected them to be. According to a recent survey by Bank of America, more than half of young adults aged between 18 and 23 said they were planning to buy a house within five years. And they’re not just saying it -- they are willing to make sacrifices for it, including getting a second job and saving money for down payment instead of spending it on a vacation.
“Despite their young age, group is pragmatic and actively planning for their future," D.Steve Boland, head of Consumer Lending at Bank of America, told USA Today. “They have a clear vision how they are willing to help themselves in order to make it happen."
Social issues are also- at the center of concern of Gen Z-ers, who take themselves as a changing force of the world. In India, for example, young people who have just reached the voting age are eager to vote for a new leader who is capable of solving problems that matter the most to them, including pollution, unemployment and women's safety.
As a Gen-Zer yourself, what is your plan for the future?
28. What do the underlined words “this stereotype” in paragraph 2 refer to?
A Being young is good.
B. Gen Z-ers are born after 1996.

29. We can infer from the third paragraph that ________.
A. Gen Z-ers in Japan are picky.
B. The Gen Z-ers are self-centered.
C. The Gen Z-ers care little about products.
D. The Gen Z-ers are wise when shopping.
30. What's Steve Boland's attitude to the Gen Z-ers?
A. Approving B. Negative C. Indifferent D. Critical.
31. Which of he following words may best describe Gen Z-ers?
A. Confident and independent. B. Visionary and responsible.
C. Persistent and down-to-earth. D. Active and creative.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I'm Li Hua, Chairman of the Students’ Union. I'm writing to tell you that our school is planning to donate some Chinese classics to your library, because during our visit to your school last month, some of your students mentioned they have strong passion for Chinese literature. Since we are sister schools, we intend to donate some books, whose topics vary from ancient Chinese philosophy, Tang and Song poetries to classical Chinese novels.
