Indian scientists have designed a new device which they hope will solve one of the biggest problems with the use of solar energy. They call the device a solar tree. Solar trees have metal " branches" extending from a tall , central pole at different levels. Each branch holds a photovoltaic (光电的) panel, also called a solar panel. These panels are flat surfaces that collect energy from the sun and turn it into electricity.
Daljit Singh Bedi is the chief scientist at the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, or CSIR , in New Delhi, India. The CSIR laboratories are where the solar tree was designed. Bedi says the shape of the solar tree makes it possible to fit more photovoltaic panels in a space than traditional systems do. "It takes about 4 square meters of space to produce energy which otherwise would have required 400 square meters of space," he says.
Scientists believe the energy a solar tree collects will be enough to power five homes. The solar trees will make it easier to provide solar energy for homes in cities, they say. The solar trees will also take less space from farmers in rural areas. And they will collect more energy than normal photovoltaic panels on the tops of buildings, because their design helps with placement of solar panels in a way that they are exposed more to the sun.
India is the world ' s third largest producer of greenhouse gases. The country has promised to reduce its rate of greenhouse gas production.
The cost of photovoltaic panels has gone down in recent years. This has made solar power cheaper and easier to use. But it is still not clear how useful these new developments in solar power technology are.
24. Which picture can show the solar tree in the passage?
A. B. C. D.
25. What does Bedi say about the solar trees?
A. They are energy - consuming. B. They are space - saving.
C. They are easily accessible. D. They have geographical limitation.
26. What makes the solar tree collect more energy?
A. The hi - tech materials built in the panels. B. The number of panels fixed on it.
C. The correct placement of the tree. D. The flexibilitv of its design.
27. What ' s the purpose of the passage?
A. To introduce a new technological invention.
B. To explain why scientists design solar trees.
C. To describe the features of solar trees.
D. To show the benefits of solar power technology.

OK, so it' s not a real war-but the U. S. and China are at the beginning of a trade war thanks to President Trump' s policy. The Chinese government raised 34 billion dollars in new duties on goods exported from the U. S. last week in reply to President Trump ' s unwise tariffs (关税) of 34 billion dollars on Chinese goods.
Farm and seafood - producing states are going to be hit hardest by China ' s new tariffs on U. S. goods. States where cars are made and shipped to China are on the hook as well.
In terms of value, some 38 percent of products on the tariff list are related to agriculture, including soybeans, sorghum, tobacco and meat. That' s nothing like good news for farm - belt states, primarily in the Midwest like Iowa.
A wide range of seafood is on China' s tariff list. That could hurt fishery workers in Alaska and lobster harvesters in Maine. Alaska, for example, exported nearly I billion dollars worth of seafood to China. "China is a major market for Alaska seafood, " said Alexa Tonkovich, Executive Director of the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute. " The sea food industry directly employs nearly 60, 000 workers in Alaska each year and directly employs more workers than any other private industry. "
And automaking states, particularly in the South, are also at risk. Some 24 percent of products on the list -in terms of value-are cars, trucks and other vehicles. Michigan alone exported $ 1. 7 billion worth of motor vehicles and vehicle parts to China in 2017. Other states being affected include South Carolina, where BMW makes SUVs for both the U. S. and exporters, and Alabama, home to Mercedes - Benz, Toyota , Honda and Hyundai factories.
This round of tariffs spares some industries, like commercial aircraft. Washington State, which is home to Boeing, could breathe a sigh of relief. It also, for the moment, skips tariffs on chemical products.
Alexa Tonkovich has warned the U. S. government that the trade war could risk employment, reduce industry profits, and cause the higher prices for consumers in the U. S. !
28. What does the underlined phrase "on the hook" mean?
A. Delighted in their luck. B. Lost in deep thought.
C. Caught in a difficult situation. D. Stuck in traffic jams.
29. Which state will be hurt the least on this round of tariffs?
A. Washington. B. Iowa. C. Maine. D. Michigan.
30. What is Alexa Tonkovich' s attitude towards the trade war?
A. Approving. B. Sympathetic. C. Objective. D. Opposed.
31. Which of the following shows the development of ideas in the text?
I:introduction P : Point Sp : Sub - point (次要点 ) C : Conclusion
A. I-P1 -Spl -Sp2-P2 -Sp-C B. I-PI -Sp-P2-Spl -Sp2-C
C. I-P1 -P2-Spl -Sp2-Sp3 -C D. I-PI -Spl -Sp2 -Sp3 -P2-C

Narrative medicine for healthcare professionals
If you' re a healthcare professional looking to better serve your patients, a practice known as narrative medicine may have a powerful impact. In narrative medicine, patients share the stories behind their health conditions, with an emphasis(强调 ) on their personal and emotional experience of illness, enabling clinicians (临床医生 )to provide sympathetic care. According to a report published in The Permanente Journal, the stories shared may act as a "useful resource for understanding the individual, patient - specific meaning of an illness". It ' s thought that this understanding may provide clinicians with a unique and invaluable insight into how best to treat the condition at hand.
In a healthcare system where providers are so often pressed for time, the idea of taking time out to hear each patient' s health story may seem discouraging. However, many practitioners of narrative medicine have found that the benefits of this practice supersede (取代) any concerns about time management. Along with a deeper understanding of the connections between patients ' behaviors and symptoms and the struggles that patients face in controlling their conditions, the benefits of narrative medicine include a stronger insight into possible treatments. It ' s also thought that building a health narrative may help patients feel more engaged(参与感) and empowered when it comes to managing their condition. What ' s more , studies have shown that patients may experience improvement in symptoms when encouraged to express their conditions about their illness.
Once you' ve included narrative medicine in your practice, getting the word out can help you draw patients who are seeking this approach to healthcare. Along with updating your website, you can expand your reach with social media platforms, like Facebook and Twitter. Using social media content and blog posts to share your experiences can arouse the interest of patients. Since many patients may be unfamiliar with narrative medicine, your content can go a long way in spreading the word about the many benefits of this practice. Even if you don ' t write about "narrative medicine" , the ways you write and communicate with convey your approach.

C. the patient ' s personal information D. the patient ' s mental and emotional state
33. What makes it a challenge for clinicians to practice narrative medicine?
A. Lack of equipment. B. Their busyness.
C. The patient ' s status. D. No official permission.
34. How does a patient benefit from narrative medicine?

B. He can spend less money during the treatment.
C. He gets more confidence in controlling his disease.
D. He gets to know his own behaviors and symptoms.
35. What do we know about narrative medicine from the last paragraph?

【答案】Dear Peter,
I'm happy to hear from you. Just as you ' ve learned, artificial intelligence is now widely used in China. Here I' d like to share with you what I experienced during the week - long National Day holiday.
When traveling, we were amazed at the changes and convemence brought by artificial intelligence.
First of all, wherever and whenever we went , we could use the mobile payment. More interestingly , we no longer had to get into tourist attractions with the ID card, we could do it through a face recognition app now, which really saved time so that we didn' t have to wait in a queue. What an amazing experience!
I do hope you can come to China and experience all of this when you have spare time. Looking forward to your coming.
Yours truly ,
Li Hua
