The start f Em Clarksn's running jurney was marked by negativity. As a teenager, she tk up running nly fr weight lss,a painful exchange f calries fr self-wrth — nthing t d with enjyment r gd mental health. She explains, "I'd exercise just t lse weight and it never wrked because I hated it."
Years later, nce the dark days f schl PE were a memry, she tried again. But as she says, she still fund it hard t run the annying first mile.
That single mile prved impssible fr a lng time, until 2025,when Em was asked if she wanted t run a marathn and she — fr sme unaccuntable reasn, after s many false starts — said yes!She started training and made a huge breakthrugh. This time, she gt t the nce unreachable mile marker and slapped the wall that marked the distance.
But the mst significant shift wasn't physical;it was psychlgical.Just befre the race,Em remembered catching herself lking in the mirrr and thinking that she wasn't fit enugh t d it.She realized she had always thught she wasn't ready because she didn't lk ready. She says, "I had this real shift in mindset at that mment. While I was waiting t lk like a runner,I'd actually becme ne."
That realizatin changed everything fr Em.The fcus shifted entirely t mental benefits.Running became a pwerful tl fr her mental health. She fund pride in her bdy and a real passin fr the physical challenge.
A few years later,Em and her friends started t call themselves the HAGS (Have A Gs) .They have built a supprtive cmmunity fr runners,wh receive pre-race training, jin varius races and run tgether n event days.
Em's message t ther runners is a call t self-cmpassin (自我关怀), "Yu dn't have t be gd at smething t try it r t keep ding it.If yu hate running,dn't run.If yu are bad at running but yu lve it,d it.Like in life,d what makes yu happy, even when that lks different frm what yu expected."

Have yu ever walked int a rm and then wndered why yu went there? If yu've experienced this phenmenn,yu've had a prspective memry lapse (失误) .There is real science behind.
Recently,Gilles Einstein's research has established prspective memry as a different cgnitive system,nt simply retrspective memry applied t future events. He suggests that retrspective memry cvers what happened:facts, events, cnversatins, while prspective memry cvers what needs t happen:intentins, cmmitments, future actins.
The mst imprtant finding frm his research is abut hw intentins are retrieved. It turns ut that the system is fundamentally event-caused,nt time-triggered.Intentins surface in memry when envirnmental events match the inner representatin f the intended actin's cntext,nt at arbitrary (任意的) times. This explains a cmmn failure mde:setting a time-based reminder fr 3:00 PM t send a fllw-up email. At 3:00 PM,yu are in a different meeting, the reminder fires,yu ignre it,and the fllw-up never gets sent, because the signal — a ntificatin sund — desn't match the cntext required t cnduct the actin, such as being at yur desk with the relevant email pen.
S,why d we remember the intentin five minutes after it was relevant, but nt when we needed it?This is the characteristic prspective memry failure pattern. The intentin was encded crrectly. The failure is at retrieval;the internal cue that wuld surface the intentin at the right mment did nt fire.Five minutes later,a secndary cue triggers the belated retrieval. The delay between the failure and the recgnitin is nt the same as frgetting. It is a retrieval timing failure specific t prspective memry.External cue systems slve this by placing the retrieval trigger utside the mind entirely.
This naturally brings up anther questin:is there an age effect n prspective memry? The research shws a nuanced age pattern.Labratry prspective memry tasks shw age-related decline. But naturalistic prspective memry, remembering real intentins in real life, shws less decline with age,and smetimes imprvement. The difference is explained by cmpensatry (补偿的) strategy use:lder adults are mre likely t use external aids, structured rutines, and envirnmental cues.Yunger adults rely mre n internal mnitring. The research n naturalistic prspective memry suggests this is a learnable cmpensatin,nt an age-specific limitatin.
The gd news is that mst f the time prspective memry wrks well autmatically.Fr the times it desn't,science tells us it's nt a failing f yur memry.Yu just need t leave yurself a better nte.
9.What can we learn abut prspective memry?______
      A. It is a part f retrspective memry.
      B. It benefits frm time-based reminders.
      C. It fails when the cntext is mismatched.
      D. It uses past experiences fr future actins.
10.What des the wrd "retrieved" underlined in Paragraph 3 mst prbably mean?______
      A. RecveredB. AssessedC. GeneratedD. Expressed
11.What can be inferred frm the passage?______

      B. Older adults tend t lse prspective memry.
      C. External triggers are reliable regardless f age.
      D. Frgetting intentins causes prspective memry lapse.

Mdern physics prvides a pwerful framewrk fr understanding reality. In just ver a century,it has decded the structure f atms, traced the early histry f the universe and prduced laws that seem t hld everywhere. But lately I have started t wnder whether physics is less a windw int universal reality and mre f a mirrr, reflecting the minds we happen t have.
That unsettling thught emerges when a seemingly simple questin is asked:wuld aliens, shaped by a different bilgy r culture, arrive at the same physics as us?
Evidence f this can be fund in ur wn theries.Quantum entanglement (量子纠缠) links distant particles (粒子) s that measuring ne seems t immediately set the state f the ther, despite the fact that there can be n infrmatin exchange between them.Sme physicists have taken a mre daring apprach.Future events are allwed t help shape the present.Measurements dn't merely reveal utcmes;they help define them, even backwards in time.If aliens had a radically different cnstruct f time, they might adpt such ideas naturally, rather than treating them as unsettling exceptins.
Imagine that aliens arrive by pening a wrmhle. We assume they have deep insights int gravity, but what if they dn't?What if their space-bending technlgy is the result f millins f years f trial and errr rather than theretical understanding? They knw hw t build and use it,but nt why it wrks, and they may nt care. This sunds impssible nly because we are used t thinking f technlgy as the ffspring f science.Yet,histrically, humans made steel, glass and antihitics lng befre understanding the underlying chemistry r bilgy.
Prbably any intelligent species wuld be driven t ask "why".But that urge may reflect human psychlgy rather than a universal feature f intelligence.Other species might build technlgies withut ever develping physics — nt because they failed t take the next step, but because the step never seemed necessary. In this sense, physics results frm many human chices:abut what cunts as an explanatin, which incnsistencies matter and which questins are wrth asking at all.It reflects ur histry,ur tls and ur values as much as it reflects the structure f the universe.
Recgnising that desn't weaken physics. The mre aware we are f the assumptins baked int ur theries and methds, abut time, causality, truth and explanatin, the mre freedm we gain t rethink them.
13.What can we learn frm the first tw paragraphs?______
      A. Scientific laws are beynd questin.
      B. Physics may reflect hw humans interpret reality.
      C. Intelligent species have a shared understanding f physics.
      D. Human thinking ffers a framewrk fr scientific knwledge.
14.What can be inferred frm the passage?______
      A. Science is necessary fr technlgies.
      B. The cnstruct f time is unchangeable.
      C. Results can exist independently f measurements.
      D. Turning cause and effect arund may be a natural idea.
15.As fr whether mdern physics reflects universal reality, the authr is ______ .
      A. cautiusB. supprtiveC. dubtfulD. uncncerned

This phenmenn is called the Dunning-Kruger effect, which describes hw peple unskilled in a certain area tend t verestimate their ability in that area.In the late 1990s,psychlgist David Dunning nticed that students seemed surprised by their pr test grades (17) "I thught peple must have sme insight that they were ding badly," says Dunning.T find ut,Dunning teamed up with a graduate student,Justin Kruger,t measure peple's self-cnfidence and perfrmance insight in relatin t their actual skill level. The results led t the Dunning-Kruger effect.
The effect ccurs when peple are nt aware f their wn weaknesses in knwledge r skill.
      (18) Hwever, the Dunning-Kruger effect isn't abut peple wh are generally vercnfident.Instead,it applies t peple wh lack the ability nt nly t perfrm a specific skill well, but als t recgnize their wn weakness in that skill.
      (19) It appears at hme and at wrk,and even when we' re nline.Researchers suggest that the rise f scial media has led many peple t this particular lack f self-awareness.In fact, vercnfidence was especially cmmn amng thse relying heavily n Internet surces.

When I was a kid, there was nthing I lved mre than spending an afternn ding arts and crafts.Hwever, nwadays the thught f muddying up the dining table with bags f clay r pts f paint feels like a headache.Frtunately, there is ne creative activity that desn't require huge amunts f time, space,r energy:paint by numbers.
Paint by numbers was created in the 1940s by Dan Rbbins at Palmer Paint Cmpany and tday, many peple are returning t it as a calming, structured way t enjy creativity. The kit includes a numbered canvas, matching paints, brushes, and palettes, making art accessible t anyne.Since everything yu need cmes in ne handy kit, there's n need t wander arund an art stre wndering which clr palette t chse,r t invest in expensive tls fr a hbby yu may nt cntinue with lng-term.
Perhaps the mst appealing aspect — especially fr thse wh lack creative inspiratin r wrry abut their artistic skill level — is the predetermined nature f paint by numbers. It remves the pressure f cmmitting t an idea all n yur wn and the self-dubt f facing a blank canvas.Yu dn't have t wrry abut what t paint r hw thers will judge yur wrk — the path is already laid ut fr yu.This allws the mind t settle, and engage mre fully in the mindful nature f painting.Yu simply fllw the numbers and paint ne sectin at a time. This small, manageable task can help calm an anxius mind.
Anther reasn peple are drawn t paint by numbers is the dedicated time away frm screens.Unlike binge-watching anther series, paint by numbers gives yu smething tangible at the end:a finished painting yu created with yur wn hands, alng with a sense f achievement that can be surprisingly pwerful in the face f anxiety and lw md.
If yu want t give it a try, start with simple designs and spend just 15 t 20 minutes each time. It's cheap, easy, and beneficial fr bth mental and physical health.
(1)What feels like a headache fr the writer abut ding arts and crafts?
(2)Accrding t the authr,hw can we calm an anxius mind thrugh paint by numbers?
(3)Please decide which part is false in the fllwing statement, then underline it and explain why.
