At the start f my first lessn in Chinese calligraphy, my teacher tld me t write my name.
After I put it dwn, he said, plainly: “Nw I will teach yu hw t make it beautiful.” I felt my
      breath catch.
Grwing up in Singapre, I had an uneasy relatinship with my Chinese name. My parents
are ethnically Chinese but they didn't speak Mandarin. Unfamiliar with Chinese characters, they
used frtune tellers t decide my name based n the ideal number f strkes(笔 画 ) fr each
character, which was calculated fr the best frtune. Chinese names can be truly petic. Nt mine.
Embarrassingly, the characters fr my Chinese name mean, rughly, “ld, ”barley” and “warm.”
My persnal and cultural histries were messy knts.
When I arrived in America fr cllege at 18,I embraced critical analysis and creative
expressin. It felt like a way t abandn the strict frmalities that defined my early years in
Singapre's high-pressure educatin system, and with it, perhaps, parts f my identity. Suddenly, I
felt the need t present myself in a way that Americans wuld accept. I put n an American accent
and set aside my Chinese name. Ultimately, after 14 years in the States, I decided t learn
calligraphy. Why nt get back in tuch with my heritage? I thught.
In calligraphy, the idea is t replicate(复制) the ld masters' techniques, thereby enhancing
yur wn. Every week, my teacher wuld evaluate my writing. “Yu need t be braver,” he nce
bserved. “Yur challenge is in prducing a bld strke.” Fr years, I had prided myself n
develping an image f integratin and cnfidence despite deep insecurities, but my writing
      betrayed me.
I had been learning calligraphy t try t get in tuch with my cultural rts, but what I was
really seeking was a return t myself. That first lessn came with the terrific prmise that what had
been shameful in myself culd be made beautiful— and that I culd be the ne t d that wrk. I
knw nw that what calligraphy teaches me is nt the value f replicatin but the pssibility that I
      culd knw myself mre fully.
      24. What criterin guided the selectin f the authr's Chinese name?
      A. Petic sund patterns. B. Ideal symblic images.
      C. Favrable strke cunts. D. Psitive literal meanings.
      25. Why did the authr adpt an American accent?
      A. T break with traditin. B. T fit int the cmmunity.
      C. T achieve academic success. D. T facilitate language learning.
      26. What have we learned abut the authr's experience with calligraphy?
      A. It revealed her inner self. B. It imprved her public image.
      C. It presented n challenge t her. D. It enhanced her replicatin skills.
      27. What has the authr learned frm calligraphy?

      C. Our rts define ur identity. D. Planning is gd, but ding is better.
      C
Imagine standing in frnt f a supermarket shelf with 40 types f jam. Yu might think mre
chices wuld make yu happier, but research suggests therwise. The “Paradx f Chice” is a
fascinating cncept that has interested scilgists fr decades. On the surface, mre ptins seem t
ffer mre freedm and satisfactin. We live in an age when the vast abundance f chices, frm
streaming services t nline shpping, shuld, in thery, make ur lives better. Hwever, research
has shwn that this verwhelming variety can lead t “decisin paralysis,” where we get stuck with
s many ptins that we can hardly make up ur minds. In fact, an abundance f chices can reduce
      verall satisfactin with ur decisins.
Psychlgist Barry Schwartz explains that peple wh are presented with t many ptins tend
t becme “maximizers”—— individuals wh keep trying t find the best chice. They cmpare
every feature, price, and pssibility, ften fearing that they might miss ut n a better ptin. This
leads t a state f cnstant regret, even befre the decisin is made, as they wrry abut what they
might have verlked. In cntrast, “satisfiers” lk fr smething that meets their basic needs and
are generally happier with their utcmes. They dn't need the best ptin; they just need ne that
wrks fr them. They are cntent with their chices because they aren't paralyzed by the pssibility
f making the wrng ne. While maximizers are trapped in endless cmparisn, satisfiers are cntent
because they aren't paralyzed by the fear f making the wrng chice.
Scial media has made this paradx even wrse by acting as a “never-ending cmparisn
machine.” We n lnger just cmpare urselves t ur neighbrs, but we cmpare ur lives t edited,
idealized versins f ther peple's lives arund the wrld. This cnstant expsure t better
alternatives nly increases the sense f discntent with ur wn decisins.
T address this, sme experts recmmend vluntary limitatin. By cnsciusly limiting ur
      chices, whether it's thrugh a minimalist wardrbe(衣 柜 ) r a simplified diet, we can reduce
unnecessary mental pressure that stps us frm deciding easily. The gal is nt t have less, but t
free up space fr what truly matters t us. By intentinally narrwing ur ptins, we can make mre
      rm fr meaningful experiences.
      28. What is the authr's attitude t diverse chices?
      A. Critical. B. Enthusiastic. C. Dismissive. D. Defensive.
      29. What is a typical behavir f a “satisfier”?
      A. Making quick decisins naturally.
      B. Feeling satisfied with every chice.
C Seeking the perfect ptin cnstantly.
      D. Caring much abut nline cmparisns.
      30. What rle des scial media play in the paradx f chice?
      A. It helps peple find better deals nline.
      B. It simplifies the decisin-making prcess.
      C. It prvides a realistic view f thers’ lives.
      D. It fuels dissatisfactin with ne's wn chices.
      31. Which f the fllwing is the best title fr the passage?
      A. Maximizers vs Satisfiers: Tw Ways f Making Chices
      B. The Paradx f Chice: T Many Optins Bring Dissatisfactin
      C. Scial Media: A Tl fr Endless Cmparisn Amng Peple
      D. Vluntary Limitatin: A Perfect Way t Simplify Daily Life
      D
Tw years ag, Chris and Jenna Humphrey mved t their rural dream huse, sitting in splendid
islatin in the suth Nrflk cuntryside. Nw n three sides f their hme, the fields are set t be
filled with slar panels fr ne f Britain’ s grwing number f huge slar farms. “I’ m all fr
slar—— we have panels n ur garage(车 库 ) rf,” says Chris. “It just seems criminal that
hundreds f new huses are being built dwn the rad and nne has slar panels, when they wuld
benefit husehlds. But my bigger cncern is these slar farms. They seem t reflect big-business
thinking aimed at generating prfits—— they are putting prfits befre the cuntryside, fd
      prductin and the envirnment.”
With thusands f panels cvering an extensive stretch f land, these prjects are cnsidered by
sme residents as industrial factries rather than green slutins. Their nce peaceful and rural
cmmunity is nw under attack. A villager named Berry, fr instance, is wrried abut pllutin
when panels are driven int the land suppsedly prtected fr her drinking water.
Adding t the frustratin is a grwing sense that lcal decisins are subject t being verturned
by a higher authrity. In many cases, lcal cuncils hld a vte and decisively reject a slar farm
plan. Hwever, the applicatin can then be sent t a natinal gvernment minister fr a final decisin.
This prcess makes peple feel that their lcal demcratic (民主的) rights have been taken away,
with decisins abut their cmmunity made far away in the capital. It's a situatin that has left many
      feeling angry and pwerless.
Fr sme landwners, their chice is shaped by ecnmic reality. “A lt f the land we' re
taking ut f prductin is land that desn't make mney. It just prduces sme lw-grade feed fr
cattle,” says ne f the farmers wh have rented fields t a slar farm cmpany. He says he is lsing
mney n his wheat fields and the cmpany will net him upwards f £1,000 per acre(英亩) per year.
“Peple like t think the cuntryside never changes and always lks beautiful,” he says. The
cuntryside has t make mney like everywhere else. A lt f peple supprt the slar farm. Peple
are much mre psitive than is being made ut.”
      32. The wrd “criminal”(para.1) mainly expresses Chris's criticism f .
      A. the failure t use slar panels where apprpriate
      B. the large-scale cnstructin f new huses
      C. the prfit-driven peratin f slar farms
      D. the increasing reliance n slar energy
      33. Accrding t para.2 and 3, sme residents' cncern with slar farms is rted in .
①the vast scale f slar farm prjects.
②the ptential peratinal risks in factries
③the cmplex vting system facing the lcal cmmunity
④the gvernment decisin-making prcess that ignres lcal vices
      A. ①② B. ①④ C. ②③ D. ②④
      34. What des the farmer's situatin in the last paragraph suggest?
      A. A natural landscape appeals t lcal farmers mre than an industrial ne des.
      B. The slar farm prject can be a prfitable alternative t cnventinal farming.
      C. Realizing green gals utweighs satisfying lcal cmmunity needs.
      D. Sme farmers unwillingly rent their wheat fields t slar farm cmpanies.
      35. What's the main fcus f this passage?
      A. The financial struggles faced by British farmers.
      B. The envirnmental dangers caused by slar technlgy.
      C. The gvernment's effrts t prmte renewable energy.
      D. The cntrversy ver large slar farms in the cuntryside.
      第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分)
      阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多
      余选项。
Fd Technlgy is a vital subject but has fallen ut f favur in recent years, vershadwed by
“academic” subjects. 36 As a Fd Technlgy teacher, I firmly believe that the time has cme
      t reinvent it.
Engaging students in Fd Technlgy can help shape practical prblem-slving skills, enabling
them t make mre infrmed chices abut their diets. But Fd Technlgy must evlve t meet
the demands f the mdern age. 37 Instead, a mdern fd tech prgram must be reflective f
current culinary (烹饪的)innvatins. We need a curriculum (课程) that emphasizes fresh, seasnal
      ingredients, and internatinal cuisines.
In an era when students can shw ff their recipes via scial media, we can als seize the
pprtunity t intrduce technlgy int ur fd tech classes. Beynd being tls fr accessing
infrmatin, digital platfrms have the ptential t enhance ur culinary instructin techniques. We
can task students with develping their wn meal-planning apps. 38
In my reimagined Fd Technlgy classes, inclusivity wuld play a further crucial rle. We
nw live in a multicultural sciety, where fd practices vary widely. By celebrating diverse
traditins, we can teach students abut nutritin frm a range f cultural perspectives. 39 It's
imprtant that students learn t respect and celebrate the differences that fd represents. Such an
apprach wuld nt nly help t build their understanding and empathy, but als t enrich and
expand their culinary hrizns and fuel their interest in trying new fds.
40 Wh knws—— we might well end up with classrms full f future chefs, health
advcates and fd scientists, all eager t cme up with their wn slutins t the wrld's culinary
      challenges.
      A. Cking can bridge differences.
      B. Each dish tells a unique cultural stry.
      C. Or we can engage them in interactive cking lessns.
      D. Gne, after all, are the days f simply biling cabbage.
      E. Yet there is a grwing awareness f diet-related health issues.
      F. T achieve that, hwever, we' ll need mre passinate educatrs.
      G. Diverse lcal recipes are seldm mentined in mdern Fd Technlgy

My mst memrable Thanksgiving happened last year at ur lcal church, where a simple
utreach prgram blssmed int a prfund lessn n the pwer f sharing, care, and
      inclusin.
A week befre Thanksgiving, with a few church members, we wanted t give away hliday
meals fr families in ur cmmunity. We cntacted neighbrs and scial wrkers fr families wh
might be struggling. Their respnses were verwhelming: a single mther, Amy, wrking tw jbs
t pay medical bills; an elderly cuple, Mr and Mrs Jnes, whse fixed incme culdn't stretch; the
Tmas family, displaced by a recent fire...
Eventually, we created a list f 10 families in financial need, each t receive a Thanksgiving
fd basket. These were carefully prepared baskets with all necessities fr a traditinal hliday
meal: glden stuffing mix, green beans, sweet ptates. jellied cranberry sauce, flur, butter,
nins, and dessert items, and even turkeys and hams.
That night, the fellwship hall buzzed with laughter and emtin. As each family arrived t pick
up their basket, their gratitude was evident. Mr and Mrs Jnes shared hw this wuld be their first
full meal tgether in weeks. Amy spke quietly abut jb lsses, and thers abut hardships. Yet, in
that hall, there was warmth restred.
Just as the families were abut t leave, a father, mther, and a child with wrn but neat clthes
stepped in. The father said they had simply heard thrugh wrd f muth that a church was giving
ut fd and decided t cme. Clearly, they were nt n ur list. I apprached them and explained
that we were unable t prvide supplies tday fr an extra family due t limited resurces. I felt s
srry as I lked at the family, hping they wuld understand the difficult circumstances. The man respnded with an awkward smile, saying,“Oh, never mind. We just came t see if anything was
      available. Thank yu anyway.”
      注意:(1)续写词数应为 150 词左右;
      (2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Just as the disappinted family were abut t leave, a vice frm behind called ut, “Wait!”.
