在冬天，燕子会向南迁徙。 他们会朝着温暖的南方飞，具体目的地有两个方向：国内的南方：比如广东、海南、云南这些冬天不冷的地方。国外的南方：一部分燕子会飞得更远，穿越国境线，飞到东南亚的越南、泰国，甚至澳大利亚等国家。飞行距离：近的要飞几千公里，远的能飞上万公里，相当于从中国最北边飞到最南边好几个来回。
为什么燕子非要 “搬家”？最核心的原因是 “吃饭” 问题，具体有两点：燕子主要吃空中飞的小虫子，比如蚊子、飞蛾。冬天一到，天气变冷，这些小虫子要么冻死，要么躲起来不出来了，燕子找不到食物就会饿死。燕子的身体没 “保暖衣”，它们的羽毛不够厚，无法抵御北方零下的低温，留在原地容易被冻坏。
春天燕子还会回来吗？当然会！这是燕子的 “回家本能”：第二年春天，天气变暖，北方的虫子又开始活动，燕子就会沿着原来的路线飞回来。它们还能找到去年自己搭的旧窝，简单修补一下，就可以继续住，然后生宝宝。
