One f the mst amazing experiences f ur Rund-The-Wrld trip was spending a night in the Amazn rainfrest. Our adventures started n a sunny mrning when we gt ff frm ur bat in Santarém after a three and a half day bat trip n the Amazn. A research team led by Prfessr Hng Chul Mn frm the Krea Advanced Institute f Science and Technlgy has develped a smart windw technlgy that allws users t adjust incming light and heat accrding t their needs, while als reducing strng light fr pedestrians (行人).
Unlike traditinal smart windws, which passively respnd t changes in temperature r light, these Krean smart windws allw real-time cntrl via electrical signals. Their next-generatin system, knwn as RECM, uses a electrical device t actively regulate the passing f bth visible and near-infrared (近红线的) light that is invisible but prduces heat.
The RECM system wrks in three distinct mdes, each activated by vltage (电压) cntrl. In Mde I, ideal fr winter mnths, this mde allws bth sunlight and heat t pass thrugh, much like a traditinal windw, t warm up indr spaces naturally. In Mde Ⅱ, the windw takes n a deep blue thanks t a chemical reactin frming tw elements, prviding privacy and a heat-blcking effect. In Mde Ⅲ, small metal bits attach t the surface and create a reflective layer that blcks bth light and heat. Meanwhile, the clred layer absrbs reflected light, reducing external strng light and prtecting pedestrians frm being blinded.
The research team als demnstrated the technlgy’s practical heat-blcking effect in an experiment using a small mdel huse. While the indr temperature f a mdel with regular glass rse t 58.7℃ in 45 minutes, the mdel equipped with the RECM technlgy in Mde Ⅲ nly saw a rise t 31.5℃.
