Oysters (牡蛎) are called "ecsystem engineers". They build reefs (礁) using living ysters and shells left by past generatins. Unfrtunately, fishing activities and castal develpment have caused severe damage, and arund 85 percent f yster reefs acrss Australia have disappeared s far.
T save the fading reefs, researchers have been wrking hard t create man - made habitats fr ysters. They first studied natural yster reefs carefully and made an imprtant discvery: natural reefs are nt just randm piles f shells, but well - rganized three - dimensinal (三维的) structures.
