Scientists have cme up with a new material ver the last five years. It lks like any ther plastic and can be hard r sft, and able t change shape. Overtime it can als break dwn int the sil withut giving ut any txic chemicals. British researchers used the new material t develp a phne cver that cntains a sunflwer seed. When this new type f cver turns int waste, it frms nitrates (硝酸盐). These feed the seed and help the flwer grw. Engineers have designed a small transparent (透明的) windw t hld the seed. They have made sure it nly grws when the phne is thrwn away. “We’ve nly put sunflwer seeds int the cver s far. But we are wrking with plant experts t find ut which flwers wuld perfrm best. Maybe we culd put rses in next time.” Said ne scientist. As phne technlgy is develping s quickly peple are cnstantly thrwing their mbiles away. This means manufacturers are under pressure t find ways f recycling them. Sme 650 millin mbile phnes have been sld this year. Mst f them will be thrwn away within tw years, adding plastic, heavy metal and chemical waste t the envirnment. A bidegradable cver can ffer sme relief fr nature, accrding t the scientists. “The seed is released and the flwer grws in the pt s yu dn’t have t cncern yurself with the phne when yu have finished using it,” said Kerry Kirwan. She leads the research team, which is based at the University f Warwick in Britain.

Technlgy has been an encuragement f histrical change. It acted as such a frce in England beginning in the eighteenth century, and acrss the entire Western Wrld in the nineteenth. Rapid advances were made in the use f scientific findings in the manufacture f gds, which has changed ideas abut wrk. One f the first changes was that ther frms f energy have taken the place f human pwer. Alng with this came the increased use f machines t manufacture prducts in less time. Peple als develped machines that culd prduce the same parts fr a prduct: each nail was exactly like every ther nail, meaning that each nail culd be changed fr every ther nail. This means that gds culd be mass prductin, althugh mass prductin required breaking prductin dwn int smaller and smaller tasks.
Once this was (lne, wrkers n lnger started n the prduct and labred t cmplete it. Instead, they might wrk nly ne thusandth f it, ther wrkers cmpleting their wn parts in certain rder. There is nthing strange abut this manufacturing wrk by tday's standards. Highly skilled wrkers were unable t cmpare with the new prductin techniques, as mass prductin allwed gds f high standard t be prduced in greater number than culd ever be dne by hand. But the skilled wrker wasn't the nly lser, the cmmn wrkers lst t. Similar changes frced farmer away. The increased mechanizatin (机械化) f agriculture freed masses f wrkers frm plughing the land and harvesting its crps. They had little chice but t stream tward the rapidly develping industrial centers. Increasingly, standards were set by machines. Wrkers n lnger wned their wn tls, their skill was n lnger valued, and pride in their wrk was n lnger pssible. Wrkers fed, lked after and repaired the machines that culd wrk faster than humans at greatly reduced cst.
72. In this passage, which f the fllwing is NOT cnsidered as a change caused by the use f scientific findings in the prductin f gds?
A. Other frms f energy have taken the place f human pwer.
B. The increased explitatin f wrkers in the 19th century.
C. The increased use f machines t make prducts in less time.
D. The use f machines prducing parts f the same standard.
73. The underlined wrd this in the first paragraph refers t ____
A. the use f scientific findings
B. the practice f prducing the same parts fr a prduct
C. the human pwer being replaced by ther frms f energy
D. the technlgy becming the encuragement f histrical change
74. Accrding t the writer, highly skilled wrkers ______
A. cmpletely disappeared with the cming f the factry system
B. were dismissed by the bss
C. were unable t prduce gds f high standard
D. were unable t prduce fine gds at that same speed as machines
75. Accrding t the passage, what did the farmers have t d with the cming f mechanizatin f agriculture?
A. Many f them had t leave their farmland fr industrial centers.
B. They stuck t their farm wrk.
C. They refused t use machines.
D They did their best t learn hw t use the machines.
