The English custm f drinking tea has its rts in the 17th and 18th centuries. When first imprted t Britain the extic "cha' (as the Chinese tea was called) was cnsidered a man's drink t be enjyed with clleagues at Lndn cffee shps. These were ppular meeting places fr many walks f life--pliticians, pets, actrs and writers. Many Lndn clubs began in this manner.
In 1706 the fist cffee huse that ffered tea was Tm's Cffee Huse wned by Tm Twining. He realized that he needed t intrduce an added attractin t cmpete with the ther cffee huses in Lndn. And tea was rare, extic and extremely expensive s that it became an exclusive drink.
