The scientist's knwledge must be exact. There is n rm fr half right r right just half the time. He must be as nearly right as the cnditins permit. What wrks under ne set f cnditins at ne time must wrk under the same cnditins at ther times. If the cnditins are different, any change the scientist bserves in a demnstratin must be explained by the change in the cnditins.

Language is a majr prblem fr the Eurpean Unin (EU). The agreement r treaty(条约) which created the rganizatin that eventually became the EU, the Treaty f Rme, stated that each cuntry's language must be treated equally. The riginal(原来的) six cuntries had nly three languages between them: French, German and Dutch/Flemish. Hwever, there are nw 15 cuntries in the EU, with a ttal f 12 languages. EU dcuments must be translated int all these languages, and at fficial meetings the speeches must be translated int all the languages by interpreters.
All this translating is very expensive and time-cnsuming (费时的). It is said that nearly half f all emplyees f the EU are engaged in translating dcuments and speeches, and nearly half f the EU's administrative(管理方面的) csts are spent n this task. In the near future it is prbable that several mre
cuntries, mst f them having their wn languages, will jin the EU, thus making the situatin even wrse.
The prblem is nt just cst; there are practical difficulties as well. With 12 languages, there are 132 pssible "translatin situatins" that might be needed. It is ften difficult t find peple in the right place at the right time wh can translate frm (fr example) Danish int Greek, r Dutch int Prtuguese, at a high prfessinal standard.
In practice the prblem has been made less severe by the use f English in many cntacts between EU fficials, since almst all f them speak sme English. Hwever, any mve t reduce the number f fficial languages (perhaps t fur r five) wuld be a blw t the pride f the smaller Cuntries. Anther cmmnly suggested slutin is t make English the fficial language fr all EU business. Hwever, this is strngly resisted by pwerful member cuntries like France and Germany.
71. The rganizatin that eventually became the EU .
A. was started by France and Germany B. started with three cuntries

72. What's the main purpse f this passage?
A. T give a slutin t a prblem.
B. T find ut a prblem and shw hw severe it is.
C. T criticize the Eurpean Unin fr inefficiency.
D. T shw that the prblem cannt be slved.
73. Accrding t the writer, the use f English in cntacts amng EU fficials has .
A. angered the fficials wh dn't speak English

A. the EU wuld nt knw which fficial languages t chse
B. cuntries whse languages were nt used fficially wuld be unhappy

TEXT 10
Tday I wuld like t cntinue ur discussin f early American agriculture, turning frm the raising f crps t the raising f livestck. The animals yu wuld have seen n a typical farm in Massachusetts in the early 1800's wuld nt lk quite the same as the nes yu might see in the 1980's. In clnial times settlers brught cattle and sheep with them t America frm varius parts f Eurpe. Because the settlers were busy building huses, clearing land and planting crps,
they had little time t care fr their animals. The cattle and sheep had t fend fr themselves, and females were bred t whatever bulls and rams wh were in the neighbrhd. These makings resulted in mixed breeds f cattle and sheep that
were hard enugh t survive under adverse cnditins. As the herds grew, they prvided the settlers with meat as well as milk and wl. That was all mst 19th century farm families needed: enugh fd fr themselves and a little surplus that
culd be traded fr things they culdn't prduce at hme. Nw the survival f farm animals is nt s precarius. Breeding is much mre selective and specialized. Purebred cattle and sheep predminate; sme bred fr their meat, thers fr their
milk r wl.

My Opinin n Cheating in Examinatins
It is knwn t us all that sme students cheat in examinatins at schl.
As students, we ften take examinatins at schl, but smetimes we have t many examinatins which are t difficult fr us. And sme f us are lazy and dn't wrk hard at their lessns. S when taking examinatins, they smetimes cheat in rder t get better results t please their parents and teachers.
In my pinin, it is wrng t cheat in examinatins because it breaks the rules f schls. We students shuld be hnest and try t get gd results by studying hard instead f cheating in examinatins. What's mre, we shuld imprve ur study methds and get well prepared fr examinatins.
