This cmes frm a new study published in a magazine. Researchers frm Israel fund that
ur given names may have smething t d with ur facial (面部的) appearances.
Lead writer Ynat Zwebner f a university, alng with her team, did eight different experiments (实验) in Israel and France. The different experiments were set up t answer tw main questins:
whether peple can crrectly guess a persn’s name based nly n a pht f a face and what is behind this matching effect.
During the experiments, researchers asked students t lk at phts f peple’s faces and
guess each persn’s name frm a list f fur chices. They crrectly guessed the right name 38 percent f the time, which was better than the 25 percent f a randm (随机的) guess.
What’s mre, when the faces the students lked at came frm within their wn cuntry, they were able t best match the faces t the names. French students were better at matching nly French names and faces while Israeli students were better at matching nly Hebrew names and Israeli faces.
Researchers believe it is pssible that peple change their appearances withut paying attentin t it, t match their names. One study especially backed up this idea, shwing that a hairstyle, smething that can be changed by peple easily, was enugh t guide thers in crrectly guessing their names.
“Earlier research has shwn there are cultural steretypes (偏见) carried by names, including
hw smene shuld lk. Fr example, peple are mre likely t imagine a persn named Bb t have a runder face than a persn named Tim. We believe these steretypes can, ver time, influence peple’s facial appearances,” Zwebner said.
The results f the experiments may even make parents think twice when chsing a name fr their children.
“If a name can influence appearance, it can influence many ther things. This research pens an imprtant directin that may suggest hw parents shuld cnsider better the names fr their children,” said Zwebner, wh recently had a baby herself.
“As parents, it was really difficult fr us t name ur 12-day-ld daughter as we knw the meanings f names.”
