      Recently, tw scientists, Jse Millan and Michele Tavella frm the Federal Plytehnic Schl in Lausanne, Switzerland, shw a small rbtic wheelchair directed by a persn’s thughts.
      In the labratry, Tavella perated the wheelchair just by thinking abut mving his left r right hand. He culd even talk as he watched the vehicle and guided it with his thughts.
      “Our brain has billins f bdy cells(细胞). These send signals thrugh the spinal crd(脊髓) t the bdy part t give us the ability t mve. But spinal crd injuries(脊柱受伤) r ther cnditins can prevent these weak electrical signals frm reaching the bdy part.” Tavella says. “Our system allws disabled peple t cmmunicate with uter wrld and als t cntrl machines.”
      The scientists designed a special cap fr the user. This head cver picks up the signals frm the scalp(头皮) and sends them t a cmputer. The cmputer finds meanings f the signals and cmmands the wheelchair with an engine. The wheelchair als has tw cameras that tell bjects in its path.
