      13、 Getting electricity has always been a prblem fr the 173 peple living in Nuev Sapsa, a small village in Peru, Suth America. Hwever, things went frm bad t wrse in March 2015 after heavy rains damaged the nly pwer cables in the area.       Luckily, researchers at the University f Technlgy (UT) in Lima, Peru heard abut their prblem and fund a wnderful slutin. They made a lamp that can be pwered by plants and sil, bth f which can be easily fund in the Amaznian rainfrest where the village lies. The lamp takes energy frm a plant grwing in a wden bx and uses it t light up an LED light bulb.
      While that may sund amazing and even impssible, the science behind the ides is quite simple. As plants create their fd (using the sun’s energy, water and chemicals frm the sil), they als prduce waste which they return t the sil. Tiny animals in the sil eat this waste and they prduce electrns – the building blcks f electrical energy. The UT team put special sticks inside the sil t capture the energy and keep it in the lamp’s batteries fr later use.
