Satellite images and the latest scientific studies may accurately infrm us hw quickly the wrldˈs glaciers are melting. But American adventurer Garrett Fisherˈs missin is different: t uncver the "suls" f disappearing glaciers—as he believes satellite images canˈt replicate (复制) the beauty f glaciers.
Many glaciers canˈt be accessed n ft, r by drne, and helicpters are extremely expensive. Therefre, Fisher flew an ld plane and hung his camera ut f the windw. "With an aerplane, I can ˈstandˈ in a place where a human canˈt stand," he says. "Yu can lk dwn int the sul f the glacier frm a clse perspective."
Fisher has spent tw summers phtgraphing the glaciers f the Bernese Alps. He chses the summer because the glaciers stand ut clearly against the surrunding snw. He has t wait fr sunshine and then brave vilent and unpredictable winds—as well as a lack f xygen—t climb as high as 14,000ft in the Bernese Alps. "It takes a lng time t wait fr the right kind f day. The cnventinal wisdm is that the wind cannt be higher than 20 knts but Iˈve gne up in as much as 50.At high altitudes, the wind tends nt t be turbulent (猛烈的) if yuˈ re n the prper side f the muntain. S itˈs a lt like surfing this giant wave: if yu stay in the right spt, everythingˈs fine."
In deep valleys, he is usually ut f radi cntact. If his plane gets int truble, the glaciers lk like a decent emergency runway, but appearances are misleading. "Thse cracks are s large that if the engine quits and I g in ne, the authrities prbably wuldnˈt ever find me again," he says. "The risk is huge, but itˈs abslutely wrth it."
Fisherˈs flying is shwing the rapid melting f glaciers. "Everything Iˈm lking at will be gne in three generatins." He has nw set up a nn-prfit grup, the Glbal Glacier Initiative, with the aim f cllecting a persnal pictrial recrd f glaciers t recrd what is being lst and campaign fr mre decisive actin t fight the climate crisis. "Iˈm willing t take the next 20 years and g chase every single glacier I can find n the planet," he says.
5.Fisher phtgraphs glaciers by aerplane t ________.
A. ensure the safety during flight
B. catch the beauty f glaciers up clse
C. stand n sme famus glaciers
D. cllect accurate data f glacier melting
6.What can we learn frm Fisherˈs phtgraphing experience?
A. He cped with high-altitude flying skillfully.
B. He chse summer t avid the unpredictable winds.
C. He regarded glaciers as a practical emergency runway.
D. He managed t keep cntact with the utside in a crack.

Its respnses have resnated (共鸣) s deeply that they have at times brught him t tears. “DeepSeek has been such an amazing cunsellr (咨询师). DeepSeek is a generative AI tl trained n massive amunts f infrmatin t recgnise patterns. This allws it t predict things like peple’s shpping habits, create new cntent in text and images, and als carry n cnversatins like a persn.
The chatbt has struck a chrd in China partly because it ffers smething unique: its AI mdel, R1, lets users see its“ thught prcess” befre delivering a respnse. While the success f DeepSeek has inspired natinal pride, it als appears t have becme a surce f cmfrt fr yung Chinese like Matthew.
Nan Jia, a business and management prfessr at the University f Suthern Califrnia, wh cauthred a paper n AI’s ptential in ffering emtinal supprt, suggests that these chatbts can“ help peple feel heard” in ways fellw humans may nt.“ Friends and family may be quick t ffer practical slutins r advice when peple just want t feel heard and understd,” Nan says.
A yung wman, Hlly, wh lives in Hubei prvince, had asked DeepSeek if she was versharing her experiences and emtins with family and friends. In reasning thrugh her questin, DeepSeek suggested that her wrry f being an ver-sharer might cme frm a deep desire fr lve. The chatbt gives itself a mental nte: “Respnse shuld ffer practical advice while being empathetic (同理心的).” This culd include“ affirming the user’s sense f self-awareness”.“ When I read DeepSeek’s thught prcess, I felt s mved,” Hlly wrte n RedNte.
The demand fr mental health services has grwn acrss the wrld but they remain inaccessible in parts f Asia, experts say. Fang Kecheng, a cmmunicatins prfessr at the Chinese University f Hng Kng says there is a “significant shrtage” f prfessinal psychlgical cunselling services in China, and thse available are ften“ prhibitively expensive” fr mst individuals.
Prf Nan stressed, hwever, that peple with serius mental health cnditins shuld nt rely n these apps. “Thse wh have medical needs, in particular, shuld be seeking help frm trained prfessinals… Their use f AI will have t be checked very clsely,” she says.

Beethven's ntebks shw that he spent cuntless hurs develping and revising the musical ideas. It was a painful and all-cnsuming prcess. Beethven was als the mst gifted imprviser(即兴演奏者)f his time. He wuld sit at the pian and create, n demand, beautiful and impsing cmpsitins.
Beethven illustrates tw mdes f creativity. Mst peple are familiar with the first type—the creative struggle—frm persnal experience. But the latter kind —the flw state—is mre elusive . Researchers knew little abut its inner mechanisms, and this lack f understanding hindered the develpment f techniques fr training flw t bst ne's creative prductin.
In a study at Drexel University's Creativity Research Lab, we addressed this gap by psing a basic questin-abut the nature f creative flw:Des it invlve intense cncentratin and hyperfcused attentin, r des it invlve the release f attentin and"letting g"?
Our studyexamined flw in the cntext f jazz imprvisatin. We recruited 32 jazz guitarists fr the study. Sme were relative nvices, whereas thers were highly experienced. We directed them t imprvise sls while listening t recrded jazz accmpaniments.
Ntably, the mst experienced musicians reprted, n average, greater intensity and frequency f flw states. This finding makes sense because it is hard t imagine feeling effrtless attentin while perfrming an unfamiliar task. Als unsurprising was that, n average, the judges rated the experts'imprvisatins as mre creative than the nvices'imprvisatins.
Next, t identify brain regins assciated with the flw state, we cmpared brain activity during high-flw perfrmances with that during lw-flw perfrmances. One striking finding was that high-flw perfrmance were assciated with reduced activityin the brain's frntal lbes(大脑前额叶), which are assciated with executive functin and cgnitive cntrl.
Then we cmpared the mst experienced musicians with the least experienced nes. The mst experienced participants shwed activity in a netwrk f brain areas assciated with hearing and visin during a flw state—sensry regins that were nt activated in the lw-experience musicians.
S it seems that creative flw can ccur when tw cnditins are met. First, ne has t gain expertise by practicing the task enugh t develp a specialized brain netwrk fr perfrming that task. Secnd, ne must release cnscius cntrl s the specialized netwrk can take ver and prduce ideas n autpilt, withut the perfrmer verthinking what they are ding.
The end result might nt be like a Beethven snata(奏鸣曲). But if yu can create it during a flw state, it will be yur best wrk, and yu will enjy the prcess.

13.What is Paragraph 4 mainly abut?
A. The subjects f the study.B. A stage f the study.
C. An assumptinf the study.D. The bjective fthe study.
14.What can we learn frm the study?
A. Flw is a state f lw cgnitive cntrl rather thanhyperfcus.
B. Flw state helps an inexperienced musician t cncentrate easily.
C. The brain's frntal lbes are less active during lw-flw perfrmance.A
D. Hearing andvisin netwrks are activated in less experienced musicians.
15.What is the main purpse f the passage?
A. T explain tw mdes f creativity.
B. T present the findings f a study f flw state.
