Staying psitive thrugh the cld seasn culd be yur best defense against getting sick, a new American study suggests.
In an experiment that expsed healthy vlunteers t a cld r flu virus, researchers fund that peple with a generally sunny character were less likely t fail ill.
The findings, published in the jurnal Psychsmatic Medicine, build n evidence that a “psitive emtinal style” can help ward ff the cmmn cld and ther illness.
“Peple with a psitive emtinal style may have different immune(免疫的)respnses t the virus,” explained lead study authr Dr Sheldn Chen f Carnegie Melln University in Pittsburgh. “And when they d get a cld, they may interpret their illness as being less severe.”
Chen and his clleagues has fund in a previus study that happier peple seemed less likely t catch a cld, but sme questins remained as t whether the emtinal quality itself had the effect.
Fr the new study, the researchers had 193 healthy adults cmplete standard measures f persnality qualities, physicals health and “emtinal style”.
Thse wh tended t be happy, energetic and easy–ging were judged as having a psitive emtinal style, while thse wh were ften unhappy, tense and hstile(敌意的)had a negative style.
