With a thirst fr a new challenge, I decided t begin my language jurney and my nly
regret is that I didn't start earlier. Since starting t learn, I have made gd prgress. The Hanyu
Shuiping Kashi (HSK) is a test f Chinese language fr nn-native speakers. In July 2020, I passed my HSK3 exam with a scre f 100 percent. I am nw almst ready t start HSK5.
Learning t speak Chinese isn't as insurmuntable as I nce thught. When I speak t
native speakers in Chinese, they almst always understand me. I als find it nt t difficult t
remember characters and I am nw even able t write ver 400 characters. I find studying the
language relaxing and wrthwhile, particularly writing the characters. The thing I find mst
challenging is listening since native speakers talk at such a speed. I can't always understand what's been said, but my weekly nline language exchanges help with this greatly.
Despite my prgress, it has still been the challenge I desire and has taken a lt f hard wrk. Furthermre, there is a lng way t g befre I reach my gal f fluency. The key t prgress is t be patient and persistent (坚持不懈的). The satisfactin that cmes frm simple things like
rdering fd in Chinese, buying things n the Internet r cmmunicating with a taxi driver makes all the hard wrk wrth it.
My biggest takeaway frm learning Chinese is that it's nt nly dable but can als be
enjyable. Learning Chinese nt nly helped me in day-t-day life, but deepened my cultural
understanding f such a clrful and beautiful cuntry. Cnsidering where I am nw, cmpared t tw years ag, as lng as I keep studying hard, I can image a time when I'll be able t read
famus Chinese nvels nt in English but in the riginal text. S, t all my nn-Chinese friends, I always say “Dn’t give up. Embrace (拥抱) the challenge.”
4 .Which ne is the mst difficult fr the authr?

      A.Easy t upset. B.Pssible t change. C.Cmfrtable t study. D.Hard t vercme. 6 .Why des the authr think learning Chinese is satisfying?

Bth episdes f The Wandering Earth include quite a few imagined technlgies that need basic scientific knwledge t understand. In the latest ne, fr example, what arused mst fierce discussins amng the public is a “space elevatr” that enables astrnauts t cmplete their trips
t space by taking an elevatr instead f a rcket. On varius platfrms, there are discussins abut whether such an elevatr is pssible. If it is, what materials wuld be used?
Fr Zhu, such discussins themselves mean the public has a taste fr science. He says, “Interest marks the first step tward creativity. Wh knws wh will emerge as an engineer fr such an elevatr in 50 years’ time?”
Impressed by the prgress f science-related industries in China, Gribbin says that, “It is ging frm strength t strength,” and that, “China is ne f the leading cuntries fr scientific

We all knw smene wh never seems t be n time. But is there a gd explanatin fr why sme peple are always late? The habit f being late prbably results frm a number f
factrs, including time perceptin (知觉), time management and persnality, experts say.
“It is likely that there’s a mechanism in the brain that causes sme peple t be late fr
meetings because they underestimate the time it will take them t get there,” said Hug Spiers, a prfessr f cgnitive neurscience at University Cllege Lndn.
“The hippcampus (海马体) is a regin f the brain which prcesses sme aspects f time, such as remembering when t d smething and hw lng it takes,” Spiers said. Neurns in the

One factr may be hw familiar we are with space. Fr the 2017 study, Spiers asked 20
students wh had newly mved t Lndn t sketch a map f their cllege district and estimate
travel time t different destinatins. While the students’ space estimates expanded if they knew an area well, their estimates f travel time reduced with familiarity. “If yu’re very familiar with a
space, yu start t discunt the truble it will take.” Spiers said.
Anther envirnmental factr may be crwdedness. In a 2022 study, researchers asked participants t estimate the length f mre r less crwded simulated subway trips. They fund that crwded cmmutes felt like they tk 10% lnger than less busy rides.
Persnality als plays a rle in running late. Certain persnality traits, such as reduced
cnscientiusness (责任), can cause sme peple t frget tasks that they had planned ahead f time. Anther factr that may influence a persn’s timeliness is his r her tendency t multitask. Research has shwn that peple wh multitask are less likely t remember and cmplete ther scheduled tasks n time.
12 .What rle des the hippcampus play accrding t the text?
A .It prcesses time-related memry. B .It measures distance accurately.
C .It helps with multitasking abilities. D .It predicts future events with precisin.
13 .What is the furth paragraph mainly abut?
      A .The imprtance f a cllege district.
      B .A study n the adaptatin f new students.
C .The effect f familiarity with space n time estimatin.
D .The influence f envirnmental factrs n travel time.
14 .Which f the fllwing factrs is least likely t be related t being late accrding t the text?
A .Familiarity with space. B .The brain’s perceptin f time.
      C .The speed f a persn’s walking. D .The crwdedness f public transprtatin.
15 .In which sectin f a website can we prbably read the text?
