Ginny MacCll was 63 when she accepted her daughter’s challenge t cmplete a pull-up. It tk nine mnths
t nail it. Nw, a decade n, MacCll can pump ut 17 f them in a rw. MacCll has since cmpeted three times
in the reality TV shw. She’s the ldest persn t cmplete an bstacle, accrding t Guinness Wrld Recrds.
“When I grew up, wmen weren’t encuraged t lift weights,” MacCll says. Seeing her daughter, Jessie
Graff, a stuntwman (替身演员) in actin, MacCll saw “such strength and grace — and she had muscles! I
realized that the things peple had always said abut muscles were s wrng. It was a disservice t wmen.”
MacCll was enrlled in dance lessns by her parents, initially t draw her ut f her shell. But in 1974, she

But “all gd things cme t an end”, and MacCll gt divrced after 13 years f marriage. Hwever, the
biggest bstacle she has vercme in life, MacCll says, is failure itself. She felt like a failure at schl, when she
and her classmates were lined up in rder f their IQ scres, and als when her first marriage ended.
“It tk me a while t get ver that,” she says. “There’s a saying I like t tell myself: ‘Change the way yu
lk at things, and the things yu lk at change.’ S I try t lk at failure as a mtivatr. I will get this. Scial
media was my way f getting ut f the depressin. I started psting sme f the things I culd d.”
She has mre than 130,000 fllwers n Instagram, and has landed parts in films. She has just filmed her next
appearance n American Ninja Warrir. MacCll believes she can cntinue t get strnger int her 80s and 90s.
“Muscle is the rgan f lngevity,” she says.
      4. What made MacCll take up pull-ups?
      A. She was inspired by her daughter. B. She was eager t becme an actress.
      C. She wanted t prve her wrth as a wman. D. She desired t break a Guinness wrld recrd.

One summer midnight, standing utside a wden huse in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, I lked up. The
sight f thusands f stars was almst enugh t make me, a nn-believer, ffer a wrd f gratitude up int the
star-filled sky. But t whm? Perhaps t Jhan Eklöf, authr f The Darkness Manifest.
Eklöf, a bat scientist, wrks in the night shadws in western Sweden. His wrk requires an abslute kind f
darkness unplluted by light. But this categry f darkness is threatened. In the1980s, Eklöf tells readers,
tw-thirds f the churches in Sweden hused bats. Nt any lnger. “Tday, this number has been reduced by a third
due t light pllutin, because the churches all glw brightly in the night,” he writes.
We have all nticed it when driving thrugh any city at night. Empty places are fldlit. The night sky in New
Yrk is 1,200 times brighter than an unlit city. Citizens f sme large cities, writes Eklöf, have never allwed their
eyes t adapt t true night visin. But we are nly nw beginning t understand the effects.
T much light is incredibly destructive t the cmplex ecsystems many animals inhabit. It scares away the
bats that Eklöf studies; reef fish eggs g unhatched; birds frget t even sing.
S hw can we deal with the t much light? In 2019, France passed laws limiting hw much light can be sent
int the sky. In Vienna, Austria, the city’s lights are turned ff at 11 pm. Sme measures, like artificial lights that
d nt reflect light upward, are already within ur grasp. “We culd just turn it all ff, but I guess we dn’t want t,
because darkness is nt safe fr everyne,” said Eklöf in a recent interview. “S it’s vital that we find a middle
      way.”
Right nw, it’s hard t knw what that middle way might lk like. In 50 years, every city culd be lit by
envirnmentally lw-impact lights, r we might have cmpletely frgtten what darkness is — the sky filled with
      little mns.
      8. What d we knw abut Eklöf’s wrk?
      A. It reduces light pllutin. B. It fcuses n stars and sky.
      C. It strengthens peple’s belief. D. It requires a specific cnditin.
      9. What can replace the underlined “it” in meaning in paragraph 3?
      A. Darkness. B. An unlit city. C. Fldlighting. D. The night sky.
      10. What are paragraphs 4 and 5 mainly abut regarding light pllutin?
      A. Cause and damage. B. Effects and slutins.
      第 6页/共 13页
      C. Cnsequences and disadvantages. D. Analysis and ptential.
      11. Which f the fllwing is the best title fr the passage?
      A. Jhan Eklöf: A Scientist Fighting Light Pllutin
      B. The Threat f Light Pllutin and the Need fr Balance

Ask Ggle’s AI vide tl t create a film f a time-travelling dctr wh flies arund in a blue British
phne bth and the result, unsurprisingly, resembles (类似) Dctr Wh. And if yu ask OpenAI’s technlgy t
d the same, a similar thing happens. What’s wrng with that, yu may think? The answer culd be ne f the
biggest issues AI chiefs face as their era-defining technlgy becmes ever mre widespread in ur lives.
Ggle and OpenAI’s generative artificial intelligence is suppsed t be just that — generative, meaning it
develps nvel answers t ur questins. But hw much f that utput is riginal? The prblem is wrking ut hw
much AI tls like Sra 2 and Ve 3 rely n smene else’s art t cme up with their wn inventins. One firm,
hwever, claims t be able t shine a light n the issue.
TraceID by Vermilli can detect the percentage t which AI-generated cntent is based n ed
materials. One f the platfrm’s abilities is t create neural fingerprints fr brands, characters r ther IP. These
fingerprints act as digital identifiers that map the unique characteristics f a given piece f cntent. By cmparing
this fingerprint against AI-generated cntent, it can determine hw much the new cntent verlaps (重合) with the
      riginal, ffering a percentage-based match.
The research shwcases this prcess in actin, using well-knwn films such as Dctr Wh and James Bnd
as case studies. The findings? Sra matched up t 62% with James Bnd fingerprint, Ggle’s Ve 3 matched 80%
t Dctr Wh fingerprint, implying that they have leaned heavily n -prtected wrk t prduce its
      utput.
Many creative prfessinals demand cmpensatin and an end t unauthrized use f their wrk until
permissins are granted. They argue AI tls build n their wrk withut remuneratin, prducing cmpeting
      creatins that undercut their industries.
Kathleen Grace, head f Vermilli, said: “We can all win if we just take a beat and figure ut a way t share
and track cntent. This wuld encurage hlders t release mre data t AI cmpanies and wuld give AI
cmpanies access t mre interesting sets f data. Instead f giving all the mney t AI cmpanies, there wuld be

      this amazing ecsystem.”
      12. What issue is presented at the beginning f the passage?
      A. Generative AI reinvents film prductin.
      B. The capabilities f generative AI are expanding.
      C. Generative AI is becming increasingly widespread.
      D. Cpyrighted materials are used in AI-generated cntent.
      13. What is paragraph 3 mainly abut?
      A. Wh uses TraceID. B. Hw TraceID wrks.
      C. Why Trace ID is develped. D. Where TraceID is used.
      14. What des the underline wrd “remuneratin” in paragraph 5 mean?
      A. Delay. B. Pay. C. Effrt. D. Warning.
      15. What message des Kathleen Grace want t cnvey?
      A. Limiting data hurts scientific prgress.
      B. Cpyright hlders shuld release mre data.
      C. A fair data-sharing ecsystem benefits all.
      D. AI firms must disclse ed cntent use.
